  1. Just looking at this from another direction... If you're organising a salsa night or 75th birthday party and gonna play recorded or live music in your local pub and expect say 100 people you're going to need bouncers?
  2. Thanks for replies. Just seems strange that some venues have a license whereby the local authority specify the amount of bouncers required & some venues have a license that don't require bouncers - but them I still have to check with the local authority who will then tell me how many bouncers I do need. Happy days.
  3. Does anybody know if there is a minimum nationwide statutory limit for the amount of bouncers/door staff required for licensed premises..... A a Dj ie soul night B live music Appreciate there are loads of local stipulations but I'm interested in the nationwide regs Cheers in advance. Col.
  4. What sort of fruit should I bring?
  5. Thats not actually true I went to a Wigan Casino play in Stratford around 1980. But hey lets not the facts the in the way of a good argument.
  6. I saw her 20 years ago and she was shite.
  7. Can't comment on scooter scene as never been. But went to Goodwood Vintage Festival where you had kids on the dance floor, drinkers on the dance floor, people in crazy fancy dress etc........but everybody appeared to be be having the time of their lives dancing to northern. I think us soulies may take ourselves too seriously
  8. Wow........thats my wish list.
  9. Heres a modern twist on the Velvelettes Nice FAT backing track
  10. OK so you're going to really hate the first 30secs but the rest is uptempo & soulful A quality re-mix of a classic with a garage feel Must have been quite tricky to do What do you think? Is there anything similar out there? Is it a step in the right direction to keeping soul alive? Al Kent - Come Back Home -
  11. Thinking about Friday - but getting back on the train may well make it a no go. Anybody got a spare tent for 2 or place to crash the night? Happy to pay Cheers Col.
  12. Sadly Gareth is correct. Although most soulies are happy paying £250 for a tune they will object to paying £4 a pint Soulies will be over critical on the DJ, music policy, lights, dance floor, food, range of beer etc........ruining a lovely idea! If you want to make money in a music bar in London your target audience would have to be much younger - around 20 to 40 years. Thats the age group spending the cash on a regular basis.
  13. Recently bought the Keb Darge/Paul Weller CD – Lost &Found….. Half the tracks I knew were northern & the other half I didn't. Turns outthe tracks I didn't know were (I'm now advised) rockabilly – which surprised me as I thought they were boogie – woogie? Any way its an excellent CD & I assume that Keb would play a similar 50/50 split at his Madam Jo-Jo residency? That's a fairly bold policy & was just wondering if anybody else is successfully mixing northern up with something unusual.
  14. For my sins, I am listening to Van McCoy & The Soul City Symphony "Do The Hustle", great record no matter which way you slice it but for some it smacks of commerciality and is as far away from every thing Northernsoul as humanly possible yet he is a god! ........I'm more interested if you can still do the dance?
  15. Firstly you don't appear to have been a soul club. Secondly you had a massive break in the middle Thirdly......oh whats the point?

  17. I enjoyed the set but thought the sound quality was awful. Maybe half a million BBC employees at Glastonbury wasn't quite enough.
  18.
