  1. The best northern soul record of all time to dance to is James Fountain - Seven Day Lover After 30 odd years of loving it, still 'sounds' fresh as a daisy (..eh?) Would sound good to me in either the oldies or modern room. You can stomp to it, shuffle to it, whatever..... Soulful vocals, manic beat, acrobatic breaks. There is no better.....unless you know different.
  2. I work with a couple of guys who have consistently either refused or been unable to get their head around rare/northern soul. They have now discovered and are in awe of Amy Winehouse which is a good thing. But still they are unable to relate her music to the tracks I play at work. So, I'm going to do a CD comp for them. I haven't as yet titled it, but it will probably be called either 'The Amy Wineshose Experience' or Wake up & Smell The Coffee' So far I'm up to: Bobby Bland - Aint Nothin' You Can Do Baby Washington - Let Love Go By Etta James - 7 Day Fool Darrel Banks - No One Blinder Care to add.... Cheers Col.
  3. I haven't heard Frank Wilson played out for approx 2 years. So, in my book its not overplayed.
  4. It was me.
  5. Try and get hod of an Inter City Soul Club patch .............you had to be there
  6. By a stroke of pure co-incidence, I find myself currently secretary of the 'Dedicated Soul Club' Pls send me £50 (in used notes) immedietely to validate your membership.....
  7. Great tunes, but I sense a certain bit of indecision here.
  8. Quality reply
  9. Bisley now has a modern room. I can tell you it was kicking in there saturday night. Tim Brown was on top form, superb crossover set - as good as you'll get at Soul Essence or anywhere else. He then went into the main room & played both 'oldies' & 'newies'. In ans to your question - "how many of the people who attend Bisley attend 100 Club?" I'd say less than 5%. Bisley regulars don't do the 100 club & 100 club regulars don't do Bisley. In general. Col.
  10. Does anybody have contact details for Chris Brown - Jazz Funk DJ Pls PM me, I'd be grateful. Col.
  11. 78 track players for me & steam powered i-pods.
  12. Yes, its nice when that happens. Although I'm currently trying to get in tune with my grand-children. The Donald McCollum link from Blake is still broken. Can somebody fix pls. Its well worth hearing. Thanks.
  13. Yep, although its not playing, but I can see its Terry McCollum. Best new release of the year for me. Went down well in Aldershot last month & I'm going to give it a spin saturday at Bisley. Perfect. Col. Sean, fair chance I'll see at Soul Essence. Roger, cheers for the pod cast, will give it a whirl.....
  14. You & me both.
  15. Yeah, thats the sort of thing I was looking for. Its good to have a bit of a change now & then
  16. Thanks for that. I've heard the Stormy track loads of time, but never made the connection.
  17. Save Love - john legend - 14654 refosoul
  18. I don't normally listen to anything that isn't either old or soulful. But I'm probably missing out. Recently heard this newish track by John Legend - Save My Love, which is neither Northern nor Rare Soul, but really appeals to me. Will post below. What do you think of it? Anything else out there isn't Northern or Rare Soul BUT close enough to appeal to old soulies? Col.
  19. Not too sure about that Steve. What really annoys about people like him is that he has been in a position to influence things and chose not to. A safe pair oh hands with a Blue Peter voice. Right now I'm listening to "William Hunt - Would You Believe?" - a truly awesome record that rips at your soul. Could he have played?.....Yes Would he have played it?....No.
  20. Thats an impressive first post. I remember Alan Sullivan as an out & out Jazz Funk DJ from Skindles (Maidenhead) days. I don't think he was ever into Northern, although I'd be quite happy to be proved wrong - a situation which seems to occur frequently. Ref Robert Elms, pls note that whatever was happening ref "music, fashion and british youth cultures" he was there right at the inception. Not just northen, EVERYTHING. He frankly does my head in, just a smarmy know it all. On a more positive note I see that Bisley is your regular haunt, if you're along next saturday I'd be more than happy to buy you a drink & not talk about Robert Elms. Col.
  21. The man reminds me of sugar coated almonds. I've been offered these a few times at weddings & on the surface they look OK. But after a few seconds you have to split them out as they in fact awful.
  22. Been offered complete set of 100 Club singles M- for £800 Fair price? Thanks in advance.
  23. Can anyone send me an mp3 of that? I've got an idea for a new thread...
