  1. Good to see this thread going some way to redressing a sense of balance. There was a real pack mentality / public lynching feel to the previous one.
  2. Good shout. Also worth a view https://www.esnips.com/doc/7add4859-db13-4c...melbourne-style
  3. I don't know that either! So pls reserve Thanks again.
  4. Not known to me, but I'll take a punt on them. Pls reserve for me, Thanks.
  5. For across the board quality uptempo soul, Arthur Fenn.
  6. One of very few DJs I've seen that have actually "worked the floor" Impressive to watch.
  7. Imagine how those lads would have felt, they turned up at 4.30am & were still charged the full £20 to get in Venue closed at 6am. Gutted I'd say.
  8. A common sense approach.
  9. Whats nortern soul?
  10. Me too. Its the theatrical equivalent of a car crash.
  11. One of the things I always liked about the scene was that it was always a bit underground & slightly cool. Dance competitions posted up in You Tube like the one below are ruining it! https://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=0w1RiX8JbCg&...feature=related Viewed one way its hilarious, in another way its a bad joke. All thats missing from that circus ring is the promoter to come in dressed as a ring master and a clowns car Parp parp.
  12. Search out the Prequel To Carlitos Way. Brilliant film, brilliant sound track.
  13. Should anybody be visiting the shop, don't be too embarrassed to ask for the really good stuff, which they keep in boxes under the counter
  14. Who do you think would win in a fight between a sausage roll and a minced pie?
  15. have you got her phone number?
  16. Not a soul record, but worthy of inclusion on grounds of comic appeal... "You walked into the party/Like you were walking onto a yacht/Your hat strategically dipped below one eye/Your scarf it was apricot/You had one eye in the mirror/As you watched yourself gavotte" ("You're So Vain")
  17. Jill Scott - Family Reunion /index.php?showtopic=8968
  18. Understanding - Patrick Green "That lady you saw me talking to, She was a second cousin of mine. It wasn't really necessary For you to act such a clown." Over a stately but swinging soul background, complete with horns and female chorus (a wonderful cameo by Jewel Bass), the song quickly becomes an anthem for put-upon males, the story of a righteous man throwing off an emotional burden. The signature line--the line that defines the song and burns itself into your memory--is: "Seven years bad luck. Broke the mirror in my pickup truck."
  19. No scene is pefect. Northern Soul is far from it. If you are go looking for problems/issues that is what you will find.
  20. Soul Bros, lovely sincere people - fantastic shop. Sadly no soundfiles on web site, unlike Crazybeat.
  21. If anybody has a M- copy for £250 I'd be interested.
  22. Thats probable. He went to Woking Centre Halls mid/late 70s. I met him a couple of times & he was a solid bloke. Quite a few people from Woking made the trip to Wigan. Paul Weller also lived in Woking. My mate Dave Grigglestone was always popping round his house for this n that. I couldn't see what all the fuss was about.
  23. Yes, they are currently in my garage. Next week they are going on e-bay.
  24. I swapped them with him for the WMDs
  25. Was cycling through the woods singing out loud along with my i-pod. Playing 'Janice' got to the line "I feel just like a wolf up in the hills........whoooo"" At that point I bumped into a couple of ramblers........
