  1. Reality bites. The guys from my local second hand record store (back in the early 80s) went to the states. They had a good appreciation of music. Over a couple of days in some cavernous warehouse they had some good profitable finds. They were after anything of value and were generally happy with what they had got. Well as happy as people working in second hand record stores get. But not 1 decent rare northern soul record. So it became a bit of a mission. Slowly they worked their way across the floor to the point where there was only 1 record box remaining. Upon opening it some wag had left a note........."ha ha - no northern soul in here"
  2. Feel for you there Steve. Back in the 70s a mate once asked me to ask for the Dj for The Dramatics - Inky Dinky Wang Dang Do.......except he got the title slightly wrong & the Dj thought i'd stepped off the special bus.
  3. I have those coasters.......i luv kitsch Even my kitchen is kitsch - aqua-and-white gingham curtains and rubber duck-yellow walls painted in a fried-egg motif
  4. "Wade in the water Ramsey Lewis"......enjoyable record but why would you play that when you should be playing Marlena Shaw?
  5. Yes, of course you are correct. I guess I don't really take it all in!
  6. Whilst on the subject of good taste. I'm thinking about knocking out a few 'collectors condoms' in recognition of Eddie Parkers forthcoming appearance at Prestatyn. Haven't finalised the design yet, but am thinking about - 'Prestatyn 2005 - Love You Baby'
  7. I quite like the ads, they are generally upbeat. Just caught a bit of the new ad for some Sony Ericsson mobile Didn't really hear it properly but it sounded like an instr re-work of Mel Torme Anyone care to shed a bit of light on it.
  8. Worst 3 records to end a niter Joey Delerenzo, Ace Spectrum & any instrumental. Surely no argument here. I'll get me coat.
  9. Amazed at results so far Um um um got 4 votes so far Aint no soul nil points Never saw that one coming.
  10. Would be happy to give it a go..........if I could I could shake off those geezers from St John's Ambulance who appear to be following me around from gig to gig* *nb - just because you are paranoid it doesn't mean people aren't talking about you.
  11. Thanks for sticking the downloads up. 2 awesome tunes. Just a word of caution about Pipkins 50. Do NOT tell him that you have bought a new record. Within 2 days he will have bought same said record a lot cheaper. My parade is constantly being rained upon
  12. Agree. Its not about comparing singers. You can't compare chalk & cheese. Ronnie Milsap is not a soul singer & his performance on record is testament to this.
  13. Pete - What are current values? Any chance of posting some sound files?
  14. This one's like showing a red rag to a bull The Major is black soul artist of the highest calibre Ronnie is a white c+w singer There are no grey areas Ed - thats enuff play on colours
  15. Bummer isn't it! Esp. when you bump into another old mate & find out that he's the new owner of said 45.
  16. Appreciate that, but thought this was a general post you can add to. Didn't realise you weren't prepared to share it. There's a lot of people MIA for all sorts of reasons. Will ask about for NOEL DICKINSON as thats my around my area.
  17. Iain Stewart - lent him amongst other American Arts WD - Volumes - One Way Lover for a DJ spot approx 10 years ago. Not seen him since.
  18. c where ur coming from.
  19. Davie, what sort of impression r u planning on leaving us? Will ur matrix no. be embedded?
  20. Women very often make better DJs than men. Men will very often play records to make an impression. Women aren't that stupid. They can generally accept a good record for what it is. And play their sets based on quality not rarity.
  21. I also have a copy of Susan Rewis & can confirm its frigging awful. Apart from nice looking label nobody in there right mind would collect this! any one care to swap!
  22. Certainly agree with most of your comments. I think most people are on Lisa Stanfields case 'cos everybody knows she's white & from Rochdale. Its a form of inverted snobbery. I certainly wouldn't advocate over playing the record - particularly with the London rare soul mafia around! But in the right place on the right night it will add to most peoples enjoyment. Certainly did for me on news years eve. Mrs Soulsmith also likes it. Regret, have never heard anything by Lemar.
  23. Simon, I've got an open mind. Happy to chat about Lisa Stansfield but am not too sure where ur taking the thread?
  24. Remember Ginger Taylor playing a record that he said was rarer than Frank Wilson. J D Bryant sticks in my mind but I'm probably wrong! Please advise. Thanks
