  1. When I was in Florida with the Navy in 78, I got a load of LPs from the Local woolies. 3 for 2 dollars. Detroit Sound(Jumping At The Go Go), Bobby Bland Greatest hits, a couple of Impressions, Debbie Taylor No Deposit No Return, and Facts Of Life with good version of 100 Pounds Of Pain. Paul
  2. About 25 years ago Rumbelows in Plymouth had a load of import 60s LPs very cheap. I got a King Errison Zola, Cherry People And Suddenly, and a Chuck Jackson Greatest hits for about 50p each. Paul
  3. Woolies also had Cliff Nobles The Horse, Bob & Earl and others(all LPs) Paul
  4. My Favourite from my first allnighter. https://youtu.be/xcmvptNpTeA
  5. Valentines Breakaway on SS7 for 2 pence at a Plymouth junior school jumble sale. Nothing else remotely soul orientated around it. Unfortunately a spider centre had been sellotaped in it, but otherwise great condition. Paul
  6. I used to play R&B time, E Rodney Jones, and point out that if they've forgotten how to dance, there are instructions in the record.
  7. I don't know about actual tunes, but every time I see a documentary about Tammi Terrell, I can't help but blub. That footage of Ain't No Mountain high Enough, really gets me, she looks so happy. Paul
  8. I sold a Youngblood smith boot on ebay years ago, and the purchase asked me if I had scans of the original for when he was DJing!!!!
  9. Live It Up, Off the EP Dusty In New York, great track IMHO. Paul
  10. At least the lad from Southport got the first one! Paul(from Southport who of course got them all!)
  11. Listening to the Kristine Sparkle version now for the first time, and is it just me that thinks the backing is a bit reminiscent if Micky Moonshine? Paul
  12. When this was recorded I don't think they were expecting drug crazed youths in Wigan to dance to this into the Sabbath!! RIP Andre. Paul
  13. Just as an aside to the general debate, what I have found odd about my experience the northern scene, is that you try to convince everyone that this is the best music in the world, but don't want the people to then come to the venues, because it's ours!!!
  14. Stagemasters Baby I'm Here Just To Love You. Paul
  15. I went to one of the Centre, Newton Aycliffe allnighters, I think it was the week after the first Wigan Anniversary in 74. I'm sure that one room was northern, and in the other they showed Diamond Are Forever!!!! Worst part about it was after jumping the train to get there, got caught on the way back and had to go to Court in Leeds just before Christmas(with Dad in tow because I was 16). Paul
  16. I used to play Bettys version as an ender to my spots in local nights in Plymouth late 70s early 80s. You probably didn't hear it there!!!!! Paul
  17. The legendary Burscough football Club. Great place for a Tuesday night(you could get a pint even at 15!) Don't remember Shawn Robinson, but I was astounded by the sounds played as I had only recently moved to Burscough. Paul
  18. Thanks to Mike & the Modifiers, and happy Christmas to everyone. Paul
  19. I think we mentioned it before, I bought a US Epic copy of Shane Martin within minutes of you selling the UK issue for £12. I remember it as if it were yesterday. Apart from the fact I can't actually remember what happened yesterday!!!!! Paul
  20. Years ago, there was a track I heard on a tape. I loved it, and then I found out what is was. It was the b side of Check Yourself, the Intruders that i had owned since the 70s. Called It Must Be Love. Paul
  21. So no one remembers Brian Jolly from Wigan and a lady friend advertising them & the Casino 'nighter bag? I do remember them being on sale. Paul
  22. The talk about sending off for stuff in Blues & Soul reminded me that they started the advert pages and the heading was CLUBS/DISCOS/GEAR. I think they changed the Gear word to events. Probably because no one ever advertised any gear, just unfeasibly wide trousers, denim coats with fur collars, jade fists, & plastic belts with "Right On Brother" on them. Not a black bomber in sight. Paul
  23. At my first allnighter at Va Vas, the Stones version was the one played off the Aftermath LP. Just pre Wigan. Paul
