Soul Bowl Soul Packs
I think as Groove City he used to put a small advert in Record Mirror each week and just list one record as in stock. I bought a Funky Sisters when it was a big play at the time, about a quid or maybe 2. Paul

Ben E King Rip
I met him & Johnny Moore in the 80s after a gig at HMS Collingwood. I told him what my favourite track was and he said he loved it too. Very apt for today. RIP Ben.

Simon Soussan Found
The worst thing he did was come up with those awful synthesizer instrumentals, and tailor mades. I've mentioned it before in another thread that I was in Russ's shop in Wigan when Soussan was over, and he was in there spinning his new stuff on the shop decks. I was looking though the record stock(Russ did sell loads of originals in the shop. Soussan put on his Thumb a ride version. You should have seen the hurt look in his face when I said "what the f*ck is this sh*t, get it off for gods sake" I thought he was going to burst into tears. I also remember Richard telling me about this brilliant new version of Bob Relf "Blowing My Mind To Pieces" that he had. of course it was the SS sh*te! Paul

Have You Ever Bought A Pressing/boot That Turned Out To Be Original ?
Bought a boot of Girl across the street for 50p in 1975, it was only when I was selling up about 7 years ago & bought the Manship bootleg guide to help me check everything before listing them, that it turned out to be an original. It still sold for less than a boot of the Salvadors! Paul

Is It True No One Was Ever Prosecuted For Drugs At Wigan Casino
If there was no drug problem at Wigan, I wonder why they even had squad in the early sessions on Friday nights(before the days of the oldies allnighters). I got arrested & prosecuted(although to be fair as it was only chalkies I only got done for handling stolen goods) but I can't believe that I was the only one in 8 years. Of course I might just be unlucky!

Never Mind Simon Soussan. Who Was Bob Cataneo?
Thanks for that Rick. It's amazing what I can remember from 40 years ago. The rumour was certainly a strong one. Paul

Is It True No One Was Ever Prosecuted For Drugs At Wigan Casino
I was arrested on a friday early session in 74, with a pocket full of chalkies, Mike Walker told me I was banned for life, and then went on stage and announced that they had got rid of another pill head with a pocket full of two tone pinks!!! did wonders for my street cred. Paul

Bobby Garrett"my Little Girl"
As another side point, when this was getting some spins at Wigan around 74/75, probably in Mr Ms, I found half a dozen of the B&C, Bob & Earls LPs which have the vocal on for about 89p each. They sold easily at the casino for a fiver each. Pretty good money for then. Paul

I found it strange that when I joined the navy and started hearing naval slang, the term "Well Boogaloo" was used to sarcastically mean big deal. Paul

Jackie Day – Before It's Too Late
I thought it was more 74. Three came out in total: Before it's Too Late, Mary Love, Lay this Burden Down, and Vernon Garrett, If I could Turn Back The Hands Of Time. All on Blue(Turquoise?) Modern, with the Arthur Wright Orchestra instrumental flip. Paul

Malibus, Gee Baby I Love You
Can I ask a silly question? Well I will. Is the pronunciation Maliboos as in people from the resort of Malibu, or Malibuss as in the number 37 to Hindley Green? By the way, I have it on the Soul Of Wigan CD and it appears to be a pretty clear recording. Paul

The One That Got Away.... The Misery Of Losing Out On A Rare Find
At a car boot in Plymouth 20 odd years ago I found a box of mint Oriole singles. Not one Motown one in there. apparently someone had beat me to it by about 5 minutes and got them. I had to be content with Sherry, Hugo Montenegro as a poor consolation. I did get a mint April Stevens MGM Demo for £3 from another stall though. Paul
