  1. My sister was given a tape back in about 74 with loads of top tunes of the day on it. One track was Toody, which I'd never heard at Wigan or anywhere at the time. Not long after I found about 4 mint Pye copies in a junk shop. Could I get rid of them? could I hell. Can't remember what I did with them, I probably buried them in one of those time capsules as a warning to future generations. Paul

Otis Blackwell, it's All Over Me, in the film Filth!
  3. Lynn Randell or Nancy Ames are favourites of mine.
  4. I wonder if he can paint.a Casino one with me in it. I'm not in any photos that have surfaced, so it might be my only chance of ns immortality. Paul
  5. I definately think it's lack of knowledge. You only have to look at many of the "northern" facebook pages to confirm that. Paul
  6. "You Hit Me" was the first sound I heard at an allnighter. Sept 73 at VaVas. I still love it, and think it really wipes the floor with Kim Westons version. Paul
  7. Great gig, pity Smokey Robinson was there, the other acts are all stars!!!! Paul
  8. I think as Groove City he used to put a small advert in Record Mirror each week and just list one record as in stock. I bought a Funky Sisters when it was a big play at the time, about a quid or maybe 2. Paul

I met him & Johnny Moore in the 80s after a gig at HMS Collingwood. I told him what my favourite track was and he said he loved it too. Very apt for today. RIP Ben.

  11. At least he admits it's a con. "Another massive massive double sider Ruby Andrews Just loving you / Otis Smith Let her go in NR mint con bargain buy it now £25 ovno"
  12. The worst thing he did was come up with those awful synthesizer instrumentals, and tailor mades. I've mentioned it before in another thread that I was in Russ's shop in Wigan when Soussan was over, and he was in there spinning his new stuff on the shop decks. I was looking though the record stock(Russ did sell loads of originals in the shop. Soussan put on his Thumb a ride version. You should have seen the hurt look in his face when I said "what the f*ck is this sh*t, get it off for gods sake" I thought he was going to burst into tears. I also remember Richard telling me about this brilliant new version of Bob Relf "Blowing My Mind To Pieces" that he had. of course it was the SS sh*te! Paul
  13. I always wondered about the Tartan Sisters being advertised in 73, but later found out it was Kadoo Strings Nothing but Love. Paul
  14. But isn't that how it was originally spelt on the Sly and The Family Stone release? Paul Sorry I should have quoted the threads immediately above!!
  15. I always thought there was a sound called "Wax to tax your mind" Paul
  16. Bought a boot of Girl across the street for 50p in 1975, it was only when I was selling up about 7 years ago & bought the Manship bootleg guide to help me check everything before listing them, that it turned out to be an original. It still sold for less than a boot of the Salvadors! Paul
  17. Didn't know him apart from on here. Very sad. RIP Joe. Paul
  18. If there was no drug problem at Wigan, I wonder why they even had squad in the early sessions on Friday nights(before the days of the oldies allnighters). I got arrested & prosecuted(although to be fair as it was only chalkies I only got done for handling stolen goods) but I can't believe that I was the only one in 8 years. Of course I might just be unlucky!
  19. Thanks for that Rick. It's amazing what I can remember from 40 years ago. The rumour was certainly a strong one. Paul
  20. I was arrested on a friday early session in 74, with a pocket full of chalkies, Mike Walker told me I was banned for life, and then went on stage and announced that they had got rid of another pill head with a pocket full of two tone pinks!!! did wonders for my street cred. Paul
  21. As another side point, when this was getting some spins at Wigan around 74/75, probably in Mr Ms, I found half a dozen of the B&C, Bob & Earls LPs which have the vocal on for about 89p each. They sold easily at the casino for a fiver each. Pretty good money for then. Paul
  22. At least the music & dancing were almost in time, something you don't see very often in youtube vids. Paul
  23. Sorry about that Rick. I was either told it or remembered it incorrectly. Was that when you were at Global? Paul
  24. Wasn't he responsible for the Carstairs Red Coach issues. Just something I remember from back then. Paul
  25. My god, that's me dancing to Tommy Sands. Paul
