  1. I do remember Happiness Is Guaranteed, off the Watchout LP, being played around late 1973. Can't remember whether it was at Wigan though. Paul
  2. Etta Thomas came out on Santa Ponsa. The other side was 99 ways, not a bad poppy track. Just to confuse matters, 99 Ways also came out as by Judy Gee & the Classmates on Route. Same recording I believe. Paul
  3. Great track and dare I say it, a far better vocal than the other two Betty Boo tracks. I wonder how many more gems there are still to be unearthed? Has a vocal to the Innocent Bystanders Frantic Escape ever appeared? Paul
  4. About 20 years ago at a car boot sale I found an Emidisc with The International GTOs on one side and Bits & Pieces on the other. I didn't think it would be rare enough to warrant an Emi. Saying that, I know at the time, Pete Lawson & Keith Bradley would "do requests" from people and sell them at a fiver a throw. Paul
  5. I was going to say Out On The Floor, but will settle for the Major, with Everybody Loves A Good Time. Paul
  6. Just to add to when this was played, just been flicking through some old blues & souls, and it is listed in a section called disco soul where various djs list their top plays at the moment(not just northern, but normal clubs as well). Russ lists it as a play, September 75. Paul
  7. I've just dug this out. April 1975 Blues & Soul badge number 9. Sorry about the quality, scanner gone caput & had to take a photo. Always loved the Yogi Bear cub one! Paul
  8. Chris Burton Who ran the International Soul Club promoting events, after the Torch closed, just produced a load of different badges. Lancashire, Yorkshire etc. There was probably a South West one. Perhaps this is what you mean. There wasn't a club just a badge. Paul
  9. I unfortunately caught an episode of an awful daytime soap called Doctors the other week. a Caribbean chappie was playing The Elgins, Heaven must Have Sent you and he explained "this is my dads music, Tony Hestor, Billy Butler", later on he was playing Landslide, then Sliced Tomatoes was used while they were sorting out records, then at the end was Tobi legend!!!! Sorry if it's been mentioned before. Paul
  10. What?, a UK original of a Northern classic from the earliest days. Out of favour nowadays, but still a classic. Paul
  11. O'jays, B side of Working On Your Case. Great dancer. also a blue eyed version played at Wigan by the Generation. Paul
  12. I don't get out much nowadays, but the last time I was out I was astounded at a DJ, who only had a half hour slot played the 12 of this(I didn't know it, but it sounded like a male version of Evelyn Kings, "Shame", to me). Could have played 3 northern soul records in the same time!!!!!!!! Paul
  13. Kim Weston, I'm Still Loving You. Never tire of hearing it. Paul
  14. I don't remember this at Wigan or Burnley either. Strange! Paul
  15. I'm sure it was just a new release on Contempo in about 74/75 that was being pushed by Blues & Soul. I never remember it being too big anywhere. Paul
  16. I'm sure they were on live at one of the Burnley Rose Room Alldayers in late 74, just after this was released . I've been looking through some Blues & Soul from the time, but can't find it. Can anyone confirm? Paul
  17. I don't know about labels, but Lester Tipton was named after 2 midlands towns! Paul
  18. Arguably, neither is Kenny Lynch! Paul
  19. My sister was given a tape back in about 74 with loads of top tunes of the day on it. One track was Toody, which I'd never heard at Wigan or anywhere at the time. Not long after I found about 4 mint Pye copies in a junk shop. Could I get rid of them? could I hell. Can't remember what I did with them, I probably buried them in one of those time capsules as a warning to future generations. Paul
  20. Otis Blackwell, it's All Over Me, in the film Filth!
  21. Lynn Randell or Nancy Ames are favourites of mine.
  22. I wonder if he can paint.a Casino one with me in it. I'm not in any photos that have surfaced, so it might be my only chance of ns immortality. Paul
  23. I definately think it's lack of knowledge. You only have to look at many of the "northern" facebook pages to confirm that. Paul
  24. "You Hit Me" was the first sound I heard at an allnighter. Sept 73 at VaVas. I still love it, and think it really wipes the floor with Kim Westons version. Paul
  25. Great gig, pity Smokey Robinson was there, the other acts are all stars!!!! Paul
