  1. As an ex member of the Royal Navy(me hearties!), we were told that there was no such thing as 00.00 everything happenning at midnight actually happens at 23.59. The next time was 0001 the next day.
  2. Could be a new thread, what was your first EMIdisc. Mine was Butch Baker Workin' at The Go Go B/W Promatics Sugar Pie Honey, I bought in 73. I did live near Ormskirk, which at one time was the emidisc capitol of the world, with Pete Lawson and Keith Bradley flogging them
  3. I remember RW trying to break it in about mid 74 and he had originals for sale at £12 in his shop. But I believe as usual Levine originally played it.
  4. With no label scan I'm not risking it. Is this the fast version or the later ballad?. Would hate to get the Beat ballad and not the stomper.
  5. I know you said instrumental, but last night listening to a load of mp3s on came The Jewels, We got Togetherness. More boing, Boing than Ding Ding, but with a forgetable vocal and a few guitar things going on, could this be the mysterious sound?
  6. Is It "With This Ring" By The Belles on Bell(with a Bellsound stamp) or does the Quasimodo Band ring any bells?
  7. Was it ding, ding a dong, or was that a eurovision thing?
  8. We've had the most soulful, and the greatest northern ever threads, but what about the sounds that made you try to wear out the maple sprung in 2 1/2 minutes. Forget about the acrobatics, it's the gritty stompers that I'm looking for. What are the best? To start off, I'm suggesting: Psychedelic Soul-Saxie Russell And for an instrumental The Champion-Willie Mitchell They do it for me

Top one in the romance stakes has got to be between Mr Bang Bang Man and The Ice Man. Straight from the heart.
  10. I've had a tape for many years with Emanual Laskey-Don't Lead Me On Baby, a sound that I realy love. Recently I bought a CD "Someday, The Cream Of Northern Soul" with it on. It sounds quite different, particularly the backing. Are there two versions. It was quite disappointing. A bit like buying a KRL CD to find that they are all re recordings. Paul
  11. Linda Jones-I Just Can't Live My Life Jodi Mathis-Don't You Care Anymore Spyder Turner-Just Can't Make It Anymore To me real Northern and Soulful. I'm sorry but the beat ballad type thing can be more soulful than old style northern but it doesn't cut it for me on a night out. Paul
  12. Perhaps I shouldn't have gone to Wigan on the Saturday before my maths O level on the monday morning. I could only ever work out that they were 10p each if they were 10 for a quid!
  13. I'll spin it tonight to see(hear?) Cheers Paul
  14. Mine has the delta 65c-9290, the yellow/white on both sides with perfect labels, AT in the runout, but compared to the disc above, where the surface curves down towards the centre hole, on mine it is more at an angle. The lable is mat and the disc is Styrene(grey edge)?. I always thought it to be original. But I mainly remember the boots with the shiney bubbled labels in about 75. I'm confused.
  15. There were a few goodish teen movies released in the 80's like Shag and Dance party. Mainly featureing beach music and tracks like Monkey Time & It will Stand. Crap movies reasonable music. I quite enjoyed Hairspray as well(the movie, not the grooming product)
  16. Oh no not another horse racing thread

Pay a few quid more and you could afford the motown original so then you could play it out without worry.
  18. Wouldn't it involve buying Frank Wilson & the Snake? Surely a non starter for many people on here.!
  19. God Knows why!
  20. You want to get Cilla Sings A Rainbow LP with her versions of Real Thing, Everything I touch Turns To Tears, Lovers Concerto etc. All classics and distinctly nasal in the vocal.
  21. Perhaps he will have the last laugh with:- Rags To Riches-Donald (S)Height
  22. I know Wigan tends to get the blame for a lot that is bad about the scene, but I think you will find that the black glove thing goes back to the Wheel days. Dave Godin refers to it in one of his visit reports.
  23. I got the Detroit Sound Album with Jumpin' At The Go Go on it in Woolworths in Jacksonville in 1978, but I think it would be a long shot to go there!
  24. Surely the obvious one is the Tramps "Penguin At The Big Apple"
