  1. Is that "Joe from Oldham"? I knew you from the Casino, then bumped into you again in the beer queue on the old Ark Royal!
  2. It's such a shame that generally in this country she will be known for "Don't Mess With My Toot Toot". RIP Denise. Paul
  3. Cheers mate, he might stop hassling me now. Paul
  4. I've got a "live" recording from around late 74 0r 75 possibly from the Newcastle Tiffanies(it's marked Tiffs!) other tracks played are 4 Larks Discotheque Groove, 7 Day Lover, Devil Made me Do It. Wrong Crowd, etc. a mate of mine wants this track identifying. I don't remember it, probably because it isn't that memorable. Any of you fine folks help? unknown.mp3 Paul unknown.mp3
  5. Another from Plymouth, at a school jumble sale, and the only interesting record for sale was a Valentines Breakaway on Sound Stage 7 for the princely sum of 2p. I was going to haggle over the condition because unfortunately someone had sellotaped a spider in the centre.
  6. When I lived in Plymouth in the early 80s, I was round at my wifes aunties house, and spotted one of the small 25 count record boxes. I looked in and there was the usual 60s chart stuff, but also a Panic Bell demo, which she kindly let me have. Paul
  7. Didn't we go through this in 1975 with Footsee, Wigans Ovation etc. Plus Major National newspapers, including the Sunday Times, doing spreads about the scene. There was a relatively large influx of "Divs", "Sightseers" etc. The floor at the casino full of sleeping people. It didn't last long until normality reigned again, and the papers found something else. What we did get are many people who realised that there was something about the music, and the scene in general, so they stayed, and I think that many are still around nowadays. This is just an observation. I don't really attend many venues nowadays, but respect to those who do. paul
  8. Didn't this all happen in 1975! Paul
  9. Not the end of the night, but end of my set was Almost, Betty Lavette. Paul
  10. I remember this version being played round our way. Paul
  11. One of my favourite groups from when I first heard Baby Do The Philly Dog, The Olympics. I love the lyrics of many of the songs, Particularly I'll Do A little Bit More, Secret Agents, Same Old Thing. Paul
  12. No one mentioned Bob Relf Blowing My Mind To Pieces yet?. Surely one of the best!
  13. I remember him waxing Lyrical about Linda Jones, especially IJCLML. It was just after they did a record collectors article about Northern Soul Collecting. Ian Levine was interviewed, and they played, if my memory serves me correctly, Invitation Band Of Angels and Love On A Mountain Top which had just been reissued, and became a pretty big hit. So late 73 ish. Paul
  14. Apparently the next fashion house to do this are Primark, with a soundtrack of Wigans Ovation, Ruth Swann and The Jezabels
  15. The Night only became really well known after it was plucked from relative obscurity, played at Wigan and other "northern" clubs. It was then re issued and hit the charts. Just saying!
  16. I once played that out at 45 RPM covered up as Pinky & Perky. Great dancer, but the vocals were a bit off!
  17. Is that Ian Levine playing on the SWONS version of My World Is On Fire?
  18. My God, two I obviously blocked from my mind!
  19. I remember it keeps raining being played by Dave Evison in the main room around 75. Totally cleared the floor. I was surprised when I heard that it had gone quite big a few years later.
  20. Another one from Ians adds was Thump Time, the Righteous Brothers Band. Anyone know what that was? Always wondered. Paul
  21. Hate it, sounds like a Cliff Richard tune. Saying that, there a far worse records played.
  22. Simpler times, when top DJs would share the top sounds around via emidiscs and no one screamed OVO! Paul
  23. I know I bought my copy in the late 80s off Dave Banks. Paul
  24. I keep meaning to ask the same question. I didn't recognise the A side, but the B side was definitely "Dawn". I didn't know if it was a legit release or not. Thanks for the info. Paul
