  1. Pete Cross gave me a Beverly Anne "You've Got Your Mind" maxi single with Ray Paige etc. He was still a W*nker though. Paul
  2. This makes a change from the usual "when I went to Wigan/Cleethorpes/Torch" type threads. The old when I went to various Nautical Training establishment crap Thursday night discos is a bit more exclusive. I remember a certain board member being told not to bring any more records because no one danced to them. It was probably the fact that the top DJs hired at HMS Collingwood. used to play the wrong sides. Laugh, I nearly didn't start. Paul(Jimmy)
  3. I would say definately a boot, I've had this since the 70s and always known it as a boot. It has the two ovals with a V matrix stamped. And as Pete says a fiver is probably right. Before these were seen the orange "hands" issue was the only one around. If it is original there are plenty around. Paul
  4. My favourite has always been Oh Baby. I love it. Can anyone post an mp3 Cheers Paul
  5. I remember him. I'm sure he had a dog called Tomango that he used to take to Wigan in his Van. Originally from St Kitts I think? Paul
  6. He was from Ormskirk, and used to hang around with the Northern crowd. He went occasionally to Wigan. Paul
  7. That's the one I was thinking about. I kept thinking Tommy, but definatly not Tommy Hunt. OK different record then. Paul
  8. But be careful, because the Demo Graphics may be in a font that has not been invented yet Paul
  9. I'll post the Get Out track. You're probably right, but I thought there was another version(or another track called "Get Out") Paul
  10. Wiganer1 has asked me to post up a few "live" Wigan sounds to be identified here is the first. Another is a version of Get Out(and let me cry) faster than Harold Melvin I remember it but can't get the artist(although it could be on Diamond?) Paul
  11. As my surname is Rimmer, I could try to get R 5OUL Paul
  12. My reg is WNP it stands for errrr mmmm Oh! I know, Wigan 'Nighters Paul Paul (Unfortunately, my scooter is Adult Orientated Rock )
  13. As I was escorted out of the casino by some friendly neighbourhood lawmen, Mike Walker screamed at me "You're banned for life, never come back". A couple of months later he said "I haven't seen you for a while, have you been away" .(I wasn't banged up, just grounded ) Paul
  14. What did you say, "Don't feckin' buy one from MFI" Paul
  15. Has to be Vol 1 I bought it on a cassette when it came out before I knew there was a scene. Loved it then, cassette long gone, but I picked this up mint at a charity shop for 50p. Its still as good as it always was. Track Listing 6 X 6 - Earl Van Dyke OO Soul-Edwin Starr Take some time out for love-Isley Bros What's easy for 2-Mary Wells You're Not An ordinary Girl-Temps This Old Heart Of Mine-Tammi Terrell Something About You-4 Tops I Can't help Myself-Earl Vann Dyke Festival Time-San Remo Strings Little Darling-Marvin Gaye Helpless-Kim Weston Lonely, Lonely Girl Am I-Velvelettes Backstreet-Edwin Again Nothin's Too Good For My Baby-Stevie Wonder Whole Lot Of Shakin' Going On-Smokey Robinson All Turned On-San Remo Strings Paul
  16. Out of interest(if anyone is), the album came out in 76 and here is the track listing. Paul
  17. Perhaps a new thread. Can you play boots if they are original boots. . Forget matrix numbers, if it doesn't say "Licenced to Soul Galore Records" it doesn't get played Paul
  18. I Know, but this was done to give it that allnighter feeling when at home. Paul
  19. Quite a strange mix this one picked up in the '70s junk shopping days. Tracks like Afternoon On The Rhino, Spirit in The Sky,. Uptown Saturday Night, Jackie Wilson Said. The biggest problem with the album apart from most of the content is that the tracks follow on so that the DJ can stand at the bar and it seamlessly plays. Paul
  20. I've got a Hollywood Persuaders "Hollywood A Go Go" B/W Marsha Gee "Baby I Need You". Not sure if that had something to do with Pete Lawson? Paul
  21. Here's mine, track 6 side 1
  22. I actually heard that Ray Pollard was successfully sued by Ben E King and Johnny Moore for impersonating a member of a popular male vocal group. Paul
  23. I got the Helena ferguson one on a cheepo CD from Tescos about 8 years ago. It had on it the dodgy Soussan Thumb A Ride, Pappa OO Mow Mow, Vocal to Rhino. Also Run Baby Run The Hotshots?, Lookin' For You Garnett & the Somebodies?. Apart from that I bought it for some tracks I didn't have on CD at the Time, Holidays,"Makin' Up Time", Tommy Neal "Happening" Darrell Banks"Somebody Somewhere". The CD was Leased from Golmine. The Helena Ferguson is Titled "Soul time" and it just says Copyright controlled. Oh and from memory there is also "Hit & Run" by Gwen Owens? another Soussan ism?. A strange mixture of tailor mades & a couple of legit ones thrown in. Paul
  24. Would his favoutite record be Barefootin' or I'll Forgive & Forget? I think he would prefer the Carpenters. Paul
  25. Anything by Tony Middleton, Gene McDaniels or Steve Flannigan. IMHO. Perhaps not so much club singer, as a bit Las Vegassy for my liking. Paul
