  3. Saw the play in 2004 in Southampton, and thought it was fantastic and the memories came flooding back. In 2005 I saw it again in Portsmouth, and it was even better. Who would have thought that a play can bring back so many memories. Oh and Russ, just a fat c*nt IMHO of course Paul Good luck Paul
  4. So sad, One of the first "northern" tracks I heard was Billy's Bag. And there's one of the best double siders, "The Girls Got It" bw "the Night" Billy_preston_The_Girls_Got_It.mp3 RIP Billy Paul R
  5. Not heard this for years, anyone got an mp3 of this, and the vocal, Jimmy Castor? Paul
  6. Didn't Stan Collimore do this as well? Paul
  7. I've heard a lot worse, but then again I've heard a lot better. The jury is still out on this one. Paul
  8. When I used to DJ round Plymouth in the late '70s, early '80s I used to end with Betty Levette "Almost". This could link in with records you should never have sold Anyone got an mp3 of it? Paul
  9. My sister had the "There Was A Time" album in '72/73 before I had hit the allnighter scene. I remember flicking through the tracks and "Bet You Never Thought" really did something for me. At the time I thought it was just not "Northern" enough. It is actually so laid back it is horizontal. Love It. 07___Bet_You_never_thought.mp3 Paul (Still want a Mr Big Shot mp3)
  10. "Bet You Never Thought", but for the atmoshere & memories it's got to be "Mr Big Shot". Has anyone got a decent mp3 of Mr Big Shot? Paul
  11. Am I missing something here?, no track? Paul
  12. If it is, has anyone got the other version on mp3. Cheers Paul
  13. And so did the Twisted Wheel, The Torch, Blackpool Mecca and all others as well. In fact before Wigan opened, the Rolling Stones version of "Under My Thumb" was played at Va Vas. As it was my first 'nighter, I thought that was a bit odd as it was a relatively well known Stones Track. Also, aren't white tracks still played on the scene now? I'm sure there are. Paul
  14. This probably coinceded with my company setting us up with internet access at our desks. It would be either me or everyone else in the office saying "what the feck is Northern Soul". Lets face it it's the nearest I get to an allnighter these days. Paul
  15. Because it was a bit "poppy" I chose to ignore Ann D'Andrea, and walked straight into a feckin' lamp post! Paul
  16. Thank Feck For That! Paul
  17. Is this a different Bobby Bennet to the one that used to present Junior Showtime, and did a version of "You're Ready Now"? If it is, Paul
  18. The Len Barry Track "Girl You're Too Young" takes me back to about 73 when the local DJs "Soul Spinners 4" used to played the Archie bell version on At lantic. Was this ever played out on the scene? great record Paul
  19. St Maries Youthclub in Bath Street Southport, 1971. As well as the chart stuff like Maggie May, etc there was Little Piece Of Leather(Before the re release), The Snake, Scratchy, Mitch Ryder, Shirley Ellis Soultime, Baby Do The Philly Dog, Show Me, Mr Bang Bang Man, Walkin Up A One Way Sreet, As well as Al Capone, Big Five, Wet Dream. 13 years old in a Barathea, check Ben Sherman, Prince Of Wales Checks and Comos. That was until I got my crombie, penny rounds & Tonics. Bottles of Old English cider, and opening a Party 4 with a brick Good times A bit dangerous, because I was with a different gang during the week at school. Paul
  20. I must admit, I did steal a Garry lewis & The Playboys Greatest Hits(sic) LP from a hippy type Liverpool record shop in 1974. I then went on to sell it for a fiver to some gullable person at Wigan. There I've admitted it I once owned "My Hearts Symphony" briefly(but not legally). Paul
  21. Atr one time you could lean over thye upstairs bar and pour yourself a beer. Paul
  22. Yeh, I did know you. I was from Burscough and I first got to know the St Helens lot when they were all on scooters and called the "Backstabbers" Paul Crookes(JB), Showy(Paul Shaw), Joey Sines. I also used to come up to the Court School Of Dancing(smashed there one Thursday night, and ended up staying at Pilkeys house after driving round with Pilkey, Terry Hastings & Billy Mac). A good night, but I missed school the next day!!!! ) ah, the innocence of youth. Then there was the Geraldo. I used to get the bus from Ormskirk up to St Helens. One summer I was staying round for a few days at someones house(Shirley). At the edge of some park in St Helens. Good days, but looking back, a bit insane. Anyway, Mr Ms, I was actually more of a main room person, until I escaped and joined the Navy. There doesn't appear to be any photos of me from those days, all I had were destroyed when I got divorced. One person who I met at a rare appearence on the scene, for me, was Janet From Shevington (used to go out with JB) and knocked about with Ann Rogers of Footsee fame. Paul
  23. I remember the first time "Ms" was opened during an allnighter was at the first anniversary. It really fecked it up for our crowd from Ormskirk/Southport, because that was "our" corner at the top of the stairs by Mr Ms door(we used to think that at the other side of those plush padded doors must be the real casino bit with all the roulette tables ). a lot of our lot then started staying in Mr Ms at the far end on the right. I never liked it much in there. I have read some write ups that said they played more soulful oldies etc in there, but all I remember hearing is "Hey Hey Bunny" John Fred, "Gimmee Some Lovin" Spencer Davis, "Opus 17" Four Seasons and Paintbox "Better Get Ready For Love". I also knew Mike Rollo from DJing at the other nights at the Casino. Nice Guy. Other DJs at the time were Ste Whittle, Kenny Spence Alan ?. Some photos in my gallery taken in Ms with My sister, Wacker & Billy Mac. Plus some at the top of the stairs with some of the crowd. Paul
  24. Ooooh are you some sort of pervert or sumfink, '70s??? Paul
