    Going back to "Goodbye" in the early days of Disco demand, didn't dave Macaleer find the track on the b side of Teenage love, realise that it had potential and sent out emidiscs or promos claiming it was an American Black group called the Javells. I'm sure that copies were sent to various DJs plus Dave Godin, who liked it, but when the "con" was discovered was a bit pissed off although still liked the track. As I said before, I didn't like it and I thought at the time it smelled fishy . I felt very smug when the con was exposed. Funnily I quite like it now. Paul

    Sorry, but I hated "Goodbye Nothing to Say" when It was played, and unfortunately I was at the Wigan early session that Ian refered to when they appeared live. I do remember him recording a couple more tracks in the same vein. I believe one was called "Loving You Is Easy" which wasn't too bad. I also recall him quitting making northern records with the quote that went something like "I am quitting the northern scene, which I helped to create" Frank Elson printed this quote in his Chuck Out The Moth column is B&S. I'll try to find it. Paul

    We used to get on at Burscough, but as the station was not manned some nights we told the people at Wigan that we got on at Appley Bridge. One Saturday night they had police at Appley Bridge making sure no one got on without a ticket. Busted!. It was around the first anniversary. The week before, or possibly the week after., I got busted again, going to an allnighter in Newton Aycliffe at the Centre. WE jumped the train all the way there, but got busted coming home again. Spent most of the day in Leeds nick. A few quid in fines & days off work for me & my dad as I was only 16. Paul

    I might be talking out of my backside here , but I though that Iancsloft may have hosted the Sunday Times guy around the scene. If it wasn't him then sorry, but I remember meeting up with the guy at the Mecca around that time. Whoever it was, I seam to remember that it was about the best of the bunch of newspaper reports about the scene, because the reporter actually hung around for about a month doing the Mecca, Wigan etc with real soulies.     Vicky Brown! I was so in love with her. She was Gorgeous!. I used to go into Wolves on occasion for the Friday night, stay at Steve Henshaws house and then on to WC on the Saturday. But Vicky Brown! Ding Feckin' Dong. Paul

    Heard Domino Many Times, but can't make the connection. Can someone post it up on refosoul please. Still it only took 30 odd years to realise that Soul Symphony was the instrumental to Get Out Of My Heart, and even them it had to be pointed out! Doh Paul

    I didn't think it was too bad aprt from "in the darkness of a small club, young lads pirouette and footsie to a Detroit-influenced Sixties soul groove " I thought the Footsie was a figment of Tony Blackburns imagination while introducin Wigan Chosen few on Top Of The Pops. Paul

    I also remember that. My first real Northern soul venue. Me & John Orritt just about walked back from Whitchurch to Liverpool and got the train back to Burscough. 15 year olds eh. Also on the discovery front, Ian, you have listed the Epitome Of Sound. Were you playing that before the speeded up Simon Soussan "Moses Smith" version(which I heard played at a venue on Friday!) apeared at Wigan?. Not trying to catch you out, just re sorting memories.     Slumming it at Smallbrook as per usual. Usually I just do 3 night at the Crown with Mischief & John Buck. Got tickets for Hipshaker on Saturday though, thought I'd give them a go, Pete Tebbutt is doing the Soul room, so I don't have to put up with all the "moddy" stuff, and if it's crap, there's always the crown again.     I hadn't heard this, but had heard of it, so I was please when old Brian announced it. Got ot agree with Pete on this one. In a Northern sense, it was IMHO absolute drivel. The track after was a totally different kettle of fish though. Billy Davis "I want You To Be My Baby" not soul, but great early Northern soul, and I preferr it to the Ellie Greenwich version. I know that may also spark a bit of debate. Paul
