  1. Group selectors were my bag Paul
  2. My surname's Rimmer. All I've found so far are videos . Paul
  3. I remember the Times correspondant was round for about a month at various venues. Not sure if I got it right, but was sure he was at Mecca with Ian Cunliffe for a couple of weeks.? Paul
  4. Don't know how legit it is, but came out with Jackie Day, "Before It's Too Late" inst, & Vernon Garrett "Turn Back The Hands Of Time" inst, both on the blue modern label. Believe them to be the only instrumental issues. Heard that Simon Soussan actually leased them legally. Don't know how true this is. Paul
  5. It's on a CD someone did of the night. It's played between Eddie & Ernie, and The Montclairs. Possibly it is 2 different "live" recordings put onto one CD. Paul
  6. I was in contact with him a few years ago via the nightowl site.. He was in the states then, I think working for a cement co or something . I think. Paul
  7. On one of the "live Wigan" recordings, from mid 74, that Pete S put up, there was all the usual stuff of the time , Tainted Love, Footsee, mirwood instrumentals, the Javells, and everything else that we've all heard a million times. Then there is a track by, I think, Kenny Ballard. Don't remember it at the time, and not heard it since. What happened there then. Compared to some of the stuff, it souded OK. Paul
  8. And Anne Rogers from Shevington, in the yellow vest & pig tails. Paul
  9. Absolutely awsome record. Still what it is all about IMHO. Paul
  10. Back in the 70s, I found "Condition Red" by the Goodees on an import label. Imagine my disgust when I found out it wasn't another "Black Pudding Bertha". Paul
  11. I'm sure I still have the album "The Multi Sound Organ of Andre Brasseur"(Bet you're all jealous), and the tracks are not mixed up as far as I remember. Ill have a look tonight. Paul
  12. Once Ms opened at the first anniversary, the Southport/Ormskirk crowd lost their corner, as it was at the top of the stairs near Ms entrance. Most of them moved into Mr Ms, but I mainly stayed in the main room. When I did venture into Mr Ms, the main memorys for some reason are the more poppy oldies like "Opus 17" 4 Seasons, "Hey hey Bunny" John Fred, "Gimme Some Lovin'" & "Trampline" Spencer Davis, "Get Ready For Love" Paint Box & "Spookys day Off" Swingin' Soul Machine. I also remember The Spellbinders & a few other more soulful tracks, but it was the poppier stuff I mainly remember for some reason. Paul
  13. Isle Of Wight For me. Be in the Crown on Saturday. Paul
  14. Definately hid it in a side street. Thinking about it it was around summer 75. On an LI 150. Had stopped going to the Casino for a couple of months due to police/parent pressure, but I used to get the free coach to the Mecca. Had a couple of particularly good nights in Blackpool, and therefore couldn't sleep, so it was back home on the coach, wheel the scoot down the road before starting up & riding to Wigan. As I say, It only happened a couple of times, I was soon ungrounded & continued with the weekly nighter visits. I do remember though around that time a brand new Vespa Rally 200 in red being parked next to the ABC Cinema. Perhaps you were not really looking. Paul
  15. Crossed my mind last week. So very apt. Paul
  16. I went to Wigan a couple of times on my Lambretta in 1975/76. Paul
  17. When "Richard Temple, Let's Do The Duck" was being played, an old aquaintance I was talking to in the Beachcomber said "Its just the same as The Duck" I explained to him that it was a different record completely, although like Jackie Lee, it was celebrating the same dance. He then said, "no, it's the same as The Duck by Willie Hutch". I didn't know what he was on about, until the truth came out. It was definately known by some people, but I can't remember who the friend was. Might have been Pete Lawson, but can't be sure. Paul PS, prefer Bobby Freeman "The Duck" to Jackie Lee.
  18. Awful record though. IMHO!! Paul
  19. Jonny Mae Mathews "Lonely You'll Be" Platters "Going Back To Detroit" + maybe another. Paul
  20. Whatever happened to Terry Hastings? Paul
  21. To me it's his best "Northern" track. Love it. Paul
  22. Eh up Knocker How's it goin'? Jimmy
  23. Brilliant! "Sha La La La La, Oh Oh Oh". Los Diablos, massive sound in Benidorm 1970!!! . Paul
  24. Word Game was one of my first Northern tracks. RIP Benny. Paul
  25. I've been keeping track of this thread, but forgive me if I've missed somthing said previously. It has been mentioned that only the usual northern tracks have been used I.e. F.W., Chuck Wood & even SOS. Has anyone mentioned Johnny Taylor "Friday Night". Not heard this for many years(although I am one who does not go out much any more). Is Johnny Taylor now a totally played out oldie? Paul
