  1. Don't know about a boot, but certainly a Pye DD. I remember it from late 74 from Levine. Paul
  2. I'd say anything by the Olympics. But that seems a bit obvious. C'mon & Swim - Bobby Freeman Running For my Life - Rosco Shelton I Don't want to Discus It - Little Richard Anything by Jack Hammer Paul
  3. Another one had just appeared on my ipod set to shuffle. Anderson Brothers "I Can't See Him Loving You" or whatever, not a bad backing track but such a pathetic vocal from a couple of Jason King Lookalikes. terrible. Paul
  4. As this is a a thread about overrated records, I'll add 2 of my own. A lot of people on here seen to rave about them, but I can't listen to them:- Rufus Lumley "Stronger Than Me", and Cajun Hart " Got To Find A way". I absolutely don't get them at all. Paul
  5. I love most of the Billy Stewart "Teaches Old Standards New Tricks" stuff. "Summertime", "Old Man River", "Secret Love" etc. What a voice. Paul
  6. When I went to my first allnighter at Vavas in about early Sept 73, I was 15 and with some older Torch/ Wheel people. One of them was saying how great a certain record was. When I told him it was "Under My Thumb" and was by The Rolling Stones, he suggested that I didn't know what I was talking about. Anyone else remember The Stones version being played off the Aftermath album, at the same time as Wayne Gibson? Paul
  7. Be at the Crown as usual on the Saturday night. Paul
  8. Was going to mention Anne Sexton "You've been gone too long " in TK Maxx today, then in an advert for ITV Coverage for the Euro Championships, the have the MVPS as the theme.! Paul
  9. How about Lena Junoff "Yesterday Is Gone" on Olga. Heard it get a few plays years ago. Can't remember if it was a good version. Paul
  10. I think this has been asked before, but has there been a cd released with the Arctic biggies on it? Looking for stuff like Mike & Ike, Laws of Love, Storm warning etc. Paul
  11. That's quite a coincidence. I bought this edition from ebay last year(only a couple of quid). I had lent it to someone years ago and never got it back. It nearly had my big mention in it!!. Frank Elson visited my local soul night at Burscough Football Club. one of the DJs Geoff Cheatham introduced Frank to me as a 15 year old soul boy!. I was promosed a namecheck. All I got was a line saying "Nor do you get scorned if you happen to be only 15). Oh well I didn't get my 15 seconds od fame!!. I think also it was the first advert for the Casino in this edition. Some great tracks listed in the adverts, including an oldies night at the Pendulum. Paul Just checked there's a copy here https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Billy-Preston-Blues-Soul-Iss-118-1973-Donny-Hathaway-Earth-Wind-Fire-/290707631792?pt=UK_Magazines&hash=item43af866eb0 sorry for th
  12. Don't know about a Santa Ponsa demo, but what about a Route demo as Judy Gee & The Classmates. Same record I believe. Paul
  13. About 1970/71, sneeked out nof boys brigade at the Methodist church! hid the uniform bits, and went into the disco at St Patricks in Southport. Danced to Third Finger Left Hand. Not long after used to go to St Maries youthclub, for The Snake, Scratchy, Little Old Man, Breakout, Cool Jerk. Etc Paul
  14. I couldn't afford 5 bob, I had to join the Navy to get a free pair . Oh and as for the creases, it depended on how tall you were, you either had 5 or 7 . Paul(ex Jolly Jack Tar)
  15. Didn't someone do Stop Sign a few years ago? Paul
  16. Always loved this, but preferred Betty Lavette, which I used to play as my last record in my spots in the 80s. Paul
  17. When I first heard Mighty Lover, around 75 ish I was told it was by The Mighty Lovers. It was many years later when I got the Ideals on a CD I was a tad confused. So I'm sure The Mighty Lovers was the first to surface, after Cool Off. Paul
  18. I think I prefer Mighty Lover, but not sure. I know the first time I heard Cool Off at the Mecca, I thought WTF is this crap. As Pete S said, it wasn't long before it worked for me. Paul
  19. Knew I still had it. Is this the one? Paul
  20. The predictable "Please Operator" on my work phone. Always makes everyone laugh when it goes off. The Gems "I'll be There" for my own phone. Paul
  21. I think I still have one. It is a pinky, purpley patterned cover and it's called The Detroit Sound. Cheepo type Music For Pleasure type thing. Tears of a clown was played off this. I'm sure Soul Yogi was a Burnley sound in 74 played by Ginger(Taylor) & Eddie(Antemes). I first heard it at the Rose Room Alldayers. Paul
  22. OK, 30 odd years has passed, but as far as the NS scene is concerned, "Tell Me It's Just A Rumour" was album only (Soul On The Rocks) untill it was released because of major plays on the scene. Also I'd like to add,if it has not been mentioned already, "Share A Little Love" the Monitors. Paul
  23. There was a version on Kiki Dees album Patterns, that also contained Magic Carpet Ride. Paul
