On the soulful house front, anyone who's into it or might be thinking of dipping their toe in the waters of soulful houseyness & new & recent releases, why not come and see us at SOULFHULL on 8th March........... All are very welcome, whatever kind of soul you're into. But we're very, very cosy, so tickets in advance strongly recommended! Steve

Anyways, arguements shmarguements. Whatever........... Anyone who fancies dipping their toes into a few 'recent' releases might care to try out some of the following (which I posted on EMS as some of my tunes of the year). If you dig them out and like them then fine, if you don't bother then that's fine too. Each to their own. Darryl D'Bonneau - Miracles Morten Trust/J-sun - Back To Love Marquito/Duane Harden - Face It Now Terry Hunter/Byron Stingily / Carla Proctor - I Waited For You Deepswing / Linda jackson - Lift Up! Deepswing / Kellly Jones - Mighty Mighty Love Kentaro Takizawa / Lisa Shaw - Can't Stop Gene King / Sacha - Changes Orgone - I Get Lifted Toshio Matsuura Group - A Night In Tunisia Matthew Bandy - Thinkin Bout You Monkey Bros / Shaun Escofferey - Losin My Head Harley & Muscle / Gerideau - Deeper Love Kenny Bobien (Meme) - the momentous...... I Shall Not Be Moved Nomambah / Nadirah Shakoor - Like A Rainbow Not interested in any comments about my 'taste' (or lack of it! ). Just thought I'd try to point those who may be interested towards a few tracks which they might like. To me, it's all just quality soul music. Steve Steve

Credit Crunch/record Crunch When Will It End
oldsteve woomble replied to a topic in All About the SOUL
Agree totally Si. No way would i spend further big 'cash' on records now. Got to be trades all the way with the odd bit of 'little' money maybe if I see something i really fancy in a sales box at a venue. Spending big money on records or crippling the credit card? Forget it. For me - It's All Over, It's All Over............... Decent trades anyone? That's where the 'chase' is for me now.... Steve -
Credit Crunch/record Crunch When Will It End
oldsteve woomble replied to a topic in All About the SOUL
A good topic and worthy of serious consideration. I always said I would never, ever, ever, ever. EVER, sell my best tunes. But then again............. For example, my Hamilton Movement is my favourite tune in my collection. (Not debating the merits of the record itself or whether it's overplayed...... whatever!). Ok, not the 'biggest' of money tunes and maybe I get to play it out a few times here and there at the odd do. Could maybe still get over a grand for it, and maybe in ten years time it will be worth a tenth of that cos there'll be no-one around wanting to buy it!! But do I get a grand's 'financial' worth of enjoyment with it sitting in a record box?? Maybe not. And am I a mug for having tunes similar tunes lying around, effectively depreciating while I could be cashing in and responsibly putting the loot elsewhere for it to appreciate?? Probably............. Hmmm.........thinking period.................. No, bollocks to it. I ain't selling owt I love!!! Call me immature, call me irresponsible, call me tomorrow, call me (your anything man). They're my old, best friends. And old, best friends are forever. -
If you're talking about playing shite pressings, bootlegs, carvers and all that old baloney then I hereby cast the first stone. Second stone anyone?? Steve

Get well soon Dave! All the bestest! Steve & Louby-Lou

Hey I reckon I was the first 'DJ' (I use the term very loosely) to 'officially' play this out! (said tongue firmly in cheekingly of course , and after the 100 club anniv nite itself obviously)...... Got back up to Cleethorpes-land from da smoke on the Sunday, safely (??) part-delivered to Lincoln-ish by Jim Eddlestone, Soap, Mo & Spike. More-or-less straight into a night at the non-legendary Queens on Seaview Street (which was a right old sunday night knees up back then........ The fights, the arguments, even the christmas fancy dress! Happy days!). I opened up the night at 7.30 (cos no-one wanted to hear my stuff later! "Now there's a surprise!!" before you say it ...) to the sounds of the 'New Anniversary Single' to drum-rolls, a fanfare, dancing girls and great overall excitement........(well, me Gig & Smucker and 3 pints of stella anyways.....) I thought it was reet fantabulous cos I'd been fed it on the Chuck c.d by Steve at Grimsby's legendary (?) Blackmail records a coupla weeks earlier and I was on the 'vinyl hunt/ acetate hunt (or whatever it is we do) trail for it anyway! L'il did i know that our super-hero (Ady) had already commited it to the blackstuff! We love you Ady, we do! etc etc ). Anyways! I'm boring myself to death now.... So there you go top trumpers! 7.30 on the following night. It will always be known to us who were there as "The First Official Play (maybe) Of The 1992 Chuck Jackson 100 Club Anniversary Single Night". We're thinking of planning a re-union anniversary night this year. Details to follow. We might even make it a weekender and have a modern room too. Whatever, I'm putting it on me CV along with Pain Of City Living............... ATB steve

Nice exit, stage left Phil! Very dramatic! No disrespect meant at all, but why not just stop logging on and see how you feel in a few weeks/months time?....... I sometimes get pi$$ed off with the compulsion (cos that's what it feels like sometimes!) to 'have a look' at SS every day, so I simply go AWOL for a few weeks. In those weeks, SS doesn't exist to me and I don't exist to SS. No big deal! Anyway, good luck in wherever & whatever And I bet you a zillion quid that you'll be having a sneaky peek every now and again, as a 'guest lurker' . Cold Turkey is a tough regime bro P.s. New thread anybody? " Best Soul Source Retirements of all time"??...........

Soul on radio tonight - 9.15 for an hour (If I last that long) www.bbc.co.uk/humber/local_radio/ Don't expect too much adventure, it's local BBC... Cheers steve

But using the same logic, to the world out there Wigan Casino and 'Northern Soul' was Footsee, Wigan's Ovation & those geezers prancing about on Top Of The Pops.............
-
Good luck with your bid then Gash Man!

2 right! All of those I posted are "choons" (as they seem to say nowadays) Can't understand that folk completely toss aside a particular genre of music.... Then again, as often, as that old classic goes...... "It's time to play the music, it's time to light the lights"...(etc) Aha! Then again, EUREKA! I can see the point....... I completely despise that "northern soul" palarvar cos I listened to that "footsee" and it just does NOT butter my muffin. No matter what you all say, I will not be persuaded. Do not try to change my mind! Ergo, using my Mr Spock powers of deduction, all "northern soul" is shyte! Simple logic, Captain Kirk. Oh bo11ocks!! I've just listened to JD Bryant! There goes my theory............... Back to the drawing board Scotty. Beam me up

DOH! I knew it! Just when I though I'd finally made it!!........ Mr Bicknell, I salute you as always!! GRRRRRR ........ Still, I'm gonna make it someday, I'm gonna make it somehow then I'll be able to say ..ner-ner-ner-ner-ner Alonzo Turner anyone.......................?
-
A fine idea. Get on with it then.................. Or is this it and we've started??
-
Nice 1 Adam. The snowball's rolling down the hill on this 1 now.............. Just had a 'top' (ish) 'DJ' (I use the term loosely) (sorry m8!) on the blower asking about this............... My god! What have we started!................. John! Book me an auction spot for about 6 weeks time......................
-
Fame at last!! Wait til I tell me mam!! And you watch you're apostrophe's young man! Fame will no doubt be fleeting though Dave, a mere ghost that passes in the night. I know my bubble's gonna burst someone will be on in a min to say "It's an OLDIE ya muppet! I've been playing it for the last 4 years at the Billington-On-Snout rare soul night "
-
Aye its great innit!! Stick with me kid, you'll go far with this soul thing................... Right! I hereby claim North by Northeast as my own personal revived spin. If anyone else wants to secure the rights to play it out then they must secure my approval in writing, sworn on my Patrick Swayzee and Jim Carrey autobiographies. Steve
-
Ey up Dave! That's it, I'm gonna keep ALL my tunes now! North By Northeast indeedy! Heading towards the playbox now and it's gonna have it's day now in my very few and far between sets! Let's see if we can talk it up a bit more.....If you start playing it it'll be £300 in a coupla months Hey, Livin In Hard Times on Cherry blossom or whatever it is always hit the spot with me as well. Think it'd be pushing it too far with that on the 'far too common' front though......Hmmmm, but then again............... you never know?......... I remember you and me having this sort of 'conversation' (if you can call it that after we'd hit the bottle) at The Orwell about 'Willowman'. I knew i should have auctioned it! Anyways, i thought you'd shed yourselves of the chains we know as Soul Source!!?? It's good to have a man of your standing in the community back! Steve
-
Hey I think I had mine off you JM, in fact I think it was even one of your recommendations (for 'can't nobody') so you must have had a few . Fab tune, I'm not knocking it in any way (or you for auctioning it for that matter). Top result! Plus, anyone who was in any doubt whatsoever as to where to send their auction items to get top dollar, well that's solved that one. A new jingle for your website........ JM! He's our man! He's alright for a Leicester fan........... Steve
-
Jordi I thought i'd mis-read it! Thinking on, I still think it might be a mis-print!! Decimal point in the wrong place?? Maybe we were just in the right place at the right time when we got ours, but I didn't think it was rare at all. Tell us JM!! Right!! I'm off to look through my boxes of doom for the next auction item. "Pain Of City Living" anyone?? How about "What's Ever Fair" on Blackbird (or whatever it is)........... There must be summat in there somewhere!!! Alonzo Turner anyone??............. Steve
-
Here's a Wigan tune. ""Twice at home by Hull KR! Twice at ho-ome by Hull KR!.............." Hmmm. I s'pose you had to be there...................
-
And don't forget all you record number of pop-pickers reading this thread, this all kicked off at Cleethorpes Beachcomber All Dayer. Aye that's CLEETHORPES BEACHCOMBER ALL-DAYER (forthcoming dates to be announced soon). Home of THE Weekender, the odd drunken all-dayer and ( a very possible future attraction) 'soul-celebrity death-match all-in wrestling' (dates TBC)................. Not that I saw any mileage in blatant promotion, of course............
-
It was a tad strange when I heard Solo played recently at a Northern venue and described as a 'new discovery' (??!!)(honest!!). Suppose it shows how diverse this 'scene' is........ As many layers as an onion....... Or summat
