  1. Herbie Hancock - Stars in Your Eyes.................. So there ya go......... UTT Steve
  2. Who cares!! Hows about them Coconuts! Well done Malc!! UTT Steve
  3. Here's a real one beeks...... Anyway, what happened to your favourite soulful house tunes after all that huff & puff? Did you bottle it?........ I expected a whole new thread at least........ ATB UTT Steve
  4. Well done m8! Share the love! The world's in far too fucked up a mess at the moment for folk to be falling out about whether 6ts/ 7ts/ rumba / bolero / cha-cha-cha or whatever is the holy grail of tuneliness. Personally I'm sick of hearing all the day to day poo in the tumble-dryer of life so let's have a musical group hug and share what we all find is the best of our own favoured bits & bobs! We're all in this together comrades........ Steve Woomble News At Ten
  5. If you know so much about it (and I've got no reason to think that you don't), then why not try to be constructive and share your wisdom? Why not simply help Dave out with say 5 top tunes that you used to love so much when you were the only person into it in 1938, rather than banging on about how great you are/were and how it's all total shite nowadays. Maybe Dave can then make his own mind up as to whether soulful house is for him or not. Easy. And helpful to someone who is at least attempting to delve into something that might be off his usual beaten track. You've obviously got knowledge, so why not use it positively? ........ I remember similar comments about the northern/modern scene all being kak/old hat/past it's sell by date or whatever back in the early 90's when we were doing nights with 20 people turning up. Good job we didn't listen and give up then or those who are recently 'reborn' or who are 'seeing the light' might not have had anything to tag onto now.....
  6. Dave Moore comes on here and asks genuinely (from what I read on his first post) to be introduced to some soulful house tracks. Why do knobs that then just want to be negative and stick the boot in on a genre of music feel the need to chip in with shitey comments about how clever they think they are/were blah-de-da-de-da? Why not just leave those that can help Dave out, in his genuine search for something new, to do just that? Why not just park the negativity and let Dave find out for himself, from those that genuinely want to and can help? Negative bollocks. And boring negative bollocks at that.
  7. I've grabbed via PM Gav!.......
  8. I'm available for christenings, tea dances, barmitzvahs and soul nights of all persuasions - and always aim to please! Jayne, to me it's all soul music (from whenever). The Masqueraders, Reggie Alexander, Dysons Faces, Norman Connors, Marc Evans & DJSpinna/Ovasoul7 in the same set wouldn't faze me in the slightest! In fact, see you at York on Saturday!!.............. Lets ave it........ Steve
  9. HALLELULJAH! We got there in the end.......... Steve
  10. Stevie G! Over to you m8! Whats the 'b' side? Any chance of a double sided scan posted up? Sean I thought you'd got over your Girls Aloud fixation.........
  11. Ey up Sean Hope all is well with you m8. Wots on the 'b' side of the one posted up? ATB Steve
  12. Ey up Swifty Rob said to me a while back he still might have a sheet of them at home somewhere! U got a scan of one you could post up m8? Steve
  13. Steve they're not the copies that Rob & Kev Thomas knocked up in Louth for a laugh with the fantastically convincing labels t'boot are they?
  14. Andy it's dead easy as far as i'm concerned...... "OFO" - "Original Format Only" (including c.d.!!) Then again, that's only the map that I try to navigate by personally! It's each to their own after all......... Steve
  15. No it's not. And on behalf of those who think it's not...... "If it has to be explained, then you don't understand"...... Aye, a ba57ardly & conceited thing to say, but there you go......... Even in the local Darby & Joan Club Disco club on a wet thursday night there are enough quality original tunes to play. We're talking 40 years of black music for god's sake!! Beeks! There are so so so so so so many ORIGINAL & FANTASTIC records out there that YOU can play and stamp YOUR own name/personality on! You don't have to resort to being a lame follower who plays the latest re-issue/carver/blag of Butch's/Sam's etc latest cover-up, just cos they "Want to be Wayne Rooney or I'll take my ball home" and have a reassuringly easy full floor. My mam can do that! (and she is available for bookings....) As far as I've read on here, you're pretty new to all this lark. If that's true (and I apologise if I've read it wrong and you ain't) then you have the opportunity to be an integral part of mapping out the future of this crazy scene. And being your own man with your own 'all-originals' tunes. Be they worth £5 or £500. The future is (possibly) bright! The future is (possibly) Beeks! Anyway, time for my tablet and lie down........... Nurse! Steve The Sweeney
  16. We did a mini bus from Cleethorpes (can't recall if it was a regular thing as remember rolling up in a fleet of cars too...). Once got picked up at the guest-house I was shacking up at after me and the missus of the time had parted company........ So that must have been late 1992.........It was fab (keele - not the guest house). Recall buying Alfie Davison for a tenner (the record, not the actual human being), Garnett Mimms white demo for a fiver and one of the lads got a Paris Blues orig out of someones junk box for £1. Loads of great vinyl bargains.......... Strange how things stick in your mind when you think back innit? For some reason, remember somone chuckin a banana skin on the dancefloor one Christmas when someone cheekily spun 'That's What Christmas Means To Me'. Maybe it was a '5-a-day' promotion evening?........
  17. Soulful House & scorching Modern Soul releases.......
  18. I think sam has one in his sales box............(think I noticed one on Saturday anyway?....) cheers steve
  19. Just great tunes, who cares when they were recorded etc etc da-de-da-de-da........ Arthur Fenn's hair all nearly grew back in excitement when I played them to him during a drunken saturday afternoon session of booziness at Skeggy (don't ask..). Even Maria seemed to like them! James! Can I have a badge for playing them out (on a self-blagged mp3 of course) please?.......... Hey and here's the next dilemma!! When the vinyl comes out, will it be de rigueur to knock those who are spinning the vinyl for not playing off 'original format'? The ba$7ards!! Sometimes one side of my head argues with the other side just for the hell of it......... Ouch Steve
  20. Can I have some commission please! (only joking!) Well done Duncan, hope you'll do the same for me if I ever list some tunes! Steve (ps I think it's still cheap at £230....... )
  21. Me too then! Hey Steve I know we see it as a classic 'modern oldie', but then again that's what we thought of Lee you-know-what and look what happened with that!....... We just need to bribe Butch to get on board and I reckon we'll be up to a grand by the end of July Happy days!! Steve (and good to see you at Skeg last week! Well it would have been if I could actually see straight... )
  22. Will someone please buy this fantastic record.............. I just don't understand the record buying fraternity sometimes . Or is it that the filter-down system isn't in operation on this tune yet? Folks! It's ok to like it even though your very own version of 'Mr Big' might not be spinning it at a soul-night near you!! £750 for Lee Fields & The Spontaneous Combustion compared with £200 for this..... Sing along folks!.......... "The king is in the altogether, the all together, the all together.................." (Then again, it might simply be that people have listened to the soundclip and think it's shite......... ) Yours bemused-ly Steve
  23. Ey up Ady Does UK 'Spring' release count?? We're in europe after all.... Bah!! I just wanted a brownie point!! Steve
  24. Hey grip and grapple fans, it's...........Celebrity All-Star-Tune-Wrestling!............... In the red corner!..........Little Hank! With his version of 'Try To Understand' on Soundstage 7 And in the blue corner!......... Lulu! With her attempt on uk decca, possibly with The Krankies on backing vocals (well she is white AND (said even more hush-edly ) scottish, so one has only to put 2 and 2 together.......... ) Ding Ding! Seconds out, Round 1............ WOW!! Lulu's just forearm-smashed Little Hank in the chops and 'it's all over' for what we call in the trade a 'Joe Frazier on Motown'. And, as Lulu gnarled to poor Little Hank as he lay prostrate,....... OOO-R-YER!! Who says diddy little scottish birds have got no soul? Doctor! More sedatives please.............
