Thanks for that John..Good to see some on here have got more than one CSE in woodwork ..I don't think Barnsey would know what that is ..This kind of night could be for an anniversary/birthday bash for the mature people....

Lou Johnson...The title is what i feel when i hear it ..I did love it many moons ago but some of us change don't we ...The word floor filler makes me shudder...One persons floor filler is anothers worst dream... ..

The trick is how to get people there for the start,i advertise to start at 9pm but will open the doors early to members and freinds, they like to getin early and get a table sorted, after a while a few more people know they can do the same..Then when the doors open you have a good few in already..I would always want someone behind the decks from the start, don't look good to a person paying in to see the stage empty..We also give away free cds to first 50 punters sometimes, that gets people in from the start because they know they will miss out if they come later..Free drugs before 9.30,that would work also ...I would like to see that on a flyer,ha ha...I have a good early crowd at my Mod/soul nights, they know they will hear some deeper stuff that don't get much chance later when the place is full..A lot of my mates like the first hour the best and come in early doors...It really depends how well the clud/venue is doing,if it gets full and all the chairs are taken each week/month then people are gonna get in early for a seat...

We have seen Kev Roberts post on here for quite a while now and so so many don't dig his thing,Kev looks at the money side everytime when posting, that drives him(he is a big time promoter)..Others are looking at different aspects..The likes of Stevie Z,Quinvy and many others on here are on seperate planets to Mr Roberts..Like you said, vote with your feet..Kev said no person would want to see the scene go underground with only 500 or so at rare soul nights around the country, thats what a lot on here would like to see it i'm sure.Kev is thinking about money and numbers all the time, thats ok because big promoters should do that, its business,a really underground soul scene would not make him any cash and thus he would never want that..We have many different people on here, some want events with 2,000 there and others would be happy with a dedicated 100 or less.. Its the really tacky commercial side of the scene that gets to a lot of people,i think you can promote large and small events without treating us like fools or xmas shoppers at Crazy George, some adverts for soul nights are like the junk mail that comes through the door, all colour gloss adverts with no soul at all...They say the best, the biggest, the longest etc etc..We aint fools and are not taken in by this type of promo,we have brains and hearts and feelings, all that these type of promos lack...I think most people i know on soul-source are educated people(Apart from Sheffield boys )and don't just "sign on the dotted line",they think about what they are signing...Like i said before Mr Roberts and Stevie Z plus others will never agree because they are looking at the scene from different places..Everytime Kev posts on here he will get get some negative feedback because some see him as the devil ,others hold him in high regard for putting on the large events that they love..That aint ever gonna change..Like Dave said...You go where you wanna go and enjoy..Don't be one of these people who goes to an event that you don't like and then just sits there moaning, stay away from there and leave it to those who want that... I go where i wanna go and stay away from places i don't find to my taste..Its that easy...I think the problem is with some promoters is that they never go to places that they don't promote or have some financial interest in..The scene is about getting out there and supporting each other,if you never set foot in a place and expect them all to come along like sheep to your event then you aint in touch..If Kev and some others just walked into any of the smaller nights out there on the scene and just sat back with mates and had a beer then he would get much better feedback..I judge a night on the music and type of person, quality before quantity but that does not mean i would keep going to an event with great music and no people,i need the buzz also from the dancefloor etc..Some peoples buzz is how much cash they have made only, thats not soul...If you have respect for people and are a decent person then you can get both,a good crowd, nice atmosphere and make some cash ,thats a fantastic night aint it.. ps I hope to meet Mr Roberts sometime soon for the first time..I have been on this scene for many many years and we have never met..I would like to see if he really does have horns ..Drinks on you Mr Roberts,i know you have a bob or two

Simon Djs come in many different forms..Do you wanna be Freddie the floor filler everytime or a man who likes to take a risk sometimes..Different promoters want different things, you would have to ask the promoter whats on the menue at some places,i would say bring your own food to the party because the food at some places aint that fresh.. ..You have to choose what kind of venue is for you and your music, some will love you and some will be like me walking into a Klu Klux Klan meeting..
-
Did anyone go to the Droylsden niters in Manchester during the 90s..Great venue and music policy..Can anyone send me or post up a flyer, djs etc.
-
Come forward Sir Steptoe.. ..Lord of the scrapyard soul junk scene...I am the dick behind the decks ..We are the DD'S...... I was asked for the Snake the other day while behind the decks,I told the young lady " with my new medication i could only manage the slug, will that do"..

I am sure most think the same Russ...Who is the promoter???There are more and more of these dog shit events coming up all the time as the crowd gets older, some tryin to milk every penny before the whole scene dies..I think the dinner/dance brigade are seperate from the real scene,i hope...I was told the flyer/advert fot the dinner dance had a roast chicken going round on the record decks,i had snot and beer everywhere when i heard that,i think its one of those urban myths aint it???..Some people call you a snob for putting down these events,if so then i think there are a couple of thousand on here i hope..I could be a snob also but its only because i care for the real scene and all the good people who are part of it..Rant over.. love and peace... x

What Keeps Your Interest In Northern Soul?
Little-stevie replied to steve z's topic in All About the SOUL
The music in most nights is dog shit, thats made my day..Good to see you have really caught the bug mate, many more tunes to make you think dear god..You are so lucky to have this music, some people live in a world of fly by night tunes, here today and gone tomorrow...Its been such a big part of my life from 16 years old and it will be to the end.." My first group was the Four Tops and i still love them... As long as you need me,i'll be by your side".. Love and peace x -
A thing i did hear the other week at a soul night.."Why pay £100 plus for the originals when you can buy so many more with all the pressings at £10 each.. ..I will keep the persons name out of this ... Things you don't see anymore... Scooters outside all-niters.. When we used to go by scooter they did not have the all night drinking..
-
OOOOOOOH all this dancing is making me so hungry ,i look forward to a nice meal and a good night sleep....
