Many times i have seen a more than one flyer/poster with a dj name on it,they can't be in both places unless they go by private jet ..Sometimes we all have a dj who can't turn up for some reason and the flyers are printed..We can at least tell people on forums like this and have a notice on the door on the night with the djs times and who is playing...

I see your point also Mandy but people should know when this kind of thing goes on...If nothing is said then some will slag off the promoter and say he just puts so called big names on the flyer to get more punters,its been done before by some ...This guy was just telling folk on this forum that he aint to blame for the no show and done everything above board...

Good point there from Mr Smith...A lot of time and effort goes into promotions,some more than others... All the flyers have been done and paid for,the so called big name is on the flyer big and bold,he does not turn up????the punters could ask for the entrance money back,then the promoter is up shit creek and he aint done nothing wrong...I would like to know what djs are up to and make sure i dont book any that play this game..Big name djs,i hate that word...

Its every week now with the loss of a great soul singer...I first heard Dee sing "i can deal with that"..That song blew me away,a great great soul song..I am gonna play "why can't there be love" at my night on Sat,another great song and what vocals....I aint up on all the soundfile stuff..Could anyone drop these two tunes in for any who aint heard them and those who have to remember a great soul lady...These great soul singers make me feel so humble.. Big names...When you could only see a certain dj just a few times a year then its was different,you would make the effort but now a lot are on most weeks...Lots of collectors have come out and are now playing tunes just as good if not better than the so called big names..Me and my freinds would make an extra effort by looking at the whole line-up,if line up aint that good IMO then there are plenty of local places to go....This topic was covered some time ago on here,can the mod find it....

I would love to see one of the greatest soul singers live.....Jerry Butler...and he sings "walking around in teardrops"....Also.Betty Lavette,wish i had seen her at Blackpool a few years ago.. Best live act for me was Gene Chandler..Morecambe Pier ..By that i mean best soul act...

All good points and good topic...We say membership card but regulars are ok too...Its good to have the membership bit in place just in case..I have asked some people for details(email,mobile)on the door,i tell them it gets them free membership and monthly details about whats on,anyone who is up to no good will walk away at that point,they don't want people knowing who they are....This can keep out the unwanted...Lets hope all promoters can learn things from each other on this topic,i like to listen and learn,we all have things to give to each other..At the end of the day we all want the same thing,a great soul night with a good freindly crowd..Would be good to see all the points put together in a list,that would help us all..Could this be done,does it make sense...We all see things at some nights that others don't..A good club is a club where the soulies too are looking out for piss heads,thiefs and all the rest..A promoter can't be all places at once...Like i said,good topic..

Good point Chalky...I think Shane means that i go out of my way to welcome younger folk(as do others),introduce them to others on the scene,take details and pass on cds/tapes..Bring them along to all niters and tell them what the scene is about...A person did that to me when i was 16 and it made me want to really get into the scene...I know that Dave does the same thing at nights in Lincoln etc and others too..Some folk would have seen me as not sussed and not on the scene,if they had not come up to me and chatted then i could have gone away and not come back...

I have a memebership policy but its not to stop others getting in..I use the memebers only words to stop certain people at the door,those who look too pissed or real lunatics...It did not stop all the North East boys on Sat from getting in though..... .. ..Its good to have a mix of people with many from the scene,freinds and a few locals........ All welcome as long as they stick to some rules with regards to beer on the dancefloor,bags or pissed up dancing and bumping into people etc...An event with mostly locals/non soulies aint a soul night really,its a nite club/disco for the pissed up/bumping/bags/spilt beer brigade....We all have a different idea whats ok and whats not ok...Let each promoter do as they want,some will carry on as soul nights and others will fail...

It looks like most of the djs dance at sometime then...The thread would have been better with what djs have never danced...I think even Stevie Z must have seen the dancefloor in his youth....The punters like to see dj dance and join in..Keith Money can do the lot,play tunes dance and drink the bar dry ..Beat that...

I think Joan toooooooo is an influence to many...It seems like she as always been around...That smile,that dance..What a delight... The beast...

Howard Earshaw(Soul Up North)..He gave us our first dj spot at the Waggon N Horses,Leeds Road Hudds back in 81/82..Me and my mate doulble decked for 30 mins each week after that,i got a pint of Shandy i think...Howard then took us with the older crowd to Clifton Hall and Morecambe Pier,Gene Chandler live....That was me hooked..Also Pat Brady,we would go to his soul nights on Thursdays in 82 at the Wharehouse in Leeds....Throught the 80s Rodger Banks was our top dj,we would go to see him play all over the place after the Stafford sound came through...Nice topic... steve

I don't think it will get the same coverage with a £1 charge on it but i hope it still does ok because a lot of us have to pay good money to advertise our nights in it and hope it gets out there to folk all over the country..I hope they have more features and less record sales or at least keep record sales to original stuff,whats the point in advertising all them bull-shit £10 pressings on Kingy,Stardust and all that lookalike shit,you can but them anyplace,its a waste of space me thinks...
