  1. Yes i know of thousand of these tunes being found in a hut in the woods in Finland by a well know soulie from there...Great story..Just sat there on wooden crates for days and days going through many many thousand original 45s... I know that would be better than sex for a good few on here ..They would have the 45s in one hand and something else in the other ,lots of whoooooooooping and then a tugging sound...Now that would be a great opening for a movie...Casting soon so please drop me a line if you have the right tools ..
  2. Yes Mike Thats the way i heard the story too regarding Liverpool, records just thrown away at the other end and a few ending up in junk shops..
  3. Mark you have turned into the diplomat ..Yes why stress over somehting you can do nothing about...Like you said there are plenty real records at cheap prices too that aint been given a real play .... I know there must be a market for the re-issue stuff but i don't know who is buying them,i don't think anyone i know would bother...If the re-issue tunes get some new folk into the music then its not such a bad thing is it...Lets take a chill pill,we have enough in life to worry about.
  4. Bobby Kline is a real soul record indeed ..Loved it since i first heard it back in the 80s,it help open my ears to so called new 60s and i have never looked back...
  5. Lots of good points on this topic...Yes there are too many nights and not enough punters...Some nights have more djs/wanna be djs/promoters/record dealers but very few punters just there for a dance and a drink...And yes we have the you put me on at yours and i put you on at mine ...Stick to being a punter ,i spent most of my time on the scene like that and had a great time..Did not know anything about djs and promoters and who was who, just paid on the door and danced all night with a smile on my face..In the last few years i have got into promoting and seen the dark side of the soul scene ....Like it says in the Werewolf film..."keep to the path and don't go in the woods" ...You don't know what creatures lurk in there... Like many have said, tooooooooooooo many nights with small numbers..Lets have promoters talking and helping each other and stop shitting on each others doorstep...Some can see the logic in this but others aint gonna change...Real shame that some just want all the gravy, greedy greedy fools but thats the way of the world for a lot of folk...
  6. I have been looking after a young family member this weekend and not had the chance to get to a soul night,i thought i would welcome the chance for a break, not had many in the last few years..Its 9pm now on Saturday and i am climbing the walls and wanting to get out..This is just one weekend off for me ,it must be hard for those who have small children to look after and want to get out to nights also...My life without soul nights would be a very sad world indeed,it means that much to me..I have lost love and freinds for my passion but can't really see a change..Its a drug for sure...
  7. Too many tunes to mention and many great tunes that i don't hear get played much at all but it depends on where you go don't it.. J.B.TROY........ LIVE ON Thats the kind of great oldie that don't get played much for me....Great choice too from Karen with don't take it out on this world... ..Quality indeed...
  8. Thats my boy James..Don't go holding back will you ..I am sure that will get some feedback
  9. Chris just said it...Jerry Butler..One of the very best for me,would love to see this man and Barbara Lewis too ,not at a soul venue but in a theatre..
  10. Like others i aint sure if i know Martin..Always good to hear news like this.. regards steve
  11. Very good post Gareth I too would like to see certain djs at all niters given more time but in two spots, say 2 x 45 min or 2x 1 hour... 5 djs could carry a niter for me..Some lads listed are on while the tables are still being put up at the start,no point thembeing there really if they aint gonna be heard later too...Good point to with regards to newer stuff being overplayed too.. I like the fact that more mid-tempo stuff is given a chance, then at least it opens the door to more and more stuff we aint heard before..I want a dj to keep me guessing whats gonna come next, not a bunch of records you can set your watch by,i know it aint so easy anymore with djs playing out every weekend..In the 90s i would just hear some djs a few times a year and that kept it special for me,too many now play tooooooooooo safe, they have a huge collection but play the same tunes too often...Like i said it aint easy to please all the people all the time.....some aint pleased any of the time, not sure why they leave the house ..God bless the promoter and the djs,its a mad world on this scene for sure..
  12. I told Frank about this thread a couple of weeks ago, lets see if he can come and talk about it himself, always good to have new members on board..Frank is a big big rare soul collector and a very fine dj, not just a fat white German as was posted above someplace... I remember Kolla starting a thread a long while back about Breakaway by Frank Popp, many loved it and some said otherwise..It must have been the same with some of the pop stuff at Wigan...It could be just like a lot of pop tunes, big for now and then it fades away..I heard someone say its never gonna be a great tune for him but he's heard worse tunes that some really call soul...I don't think Frank ever called it a soul track..I think its a fine pop record....
  13. Yes this topic goes round and round and round..I do like to hear new things to my ears and also dance to great uplifting oldies, its finding a balance but that balance is different for all of us...My mates just into oldies and he came back from a venue saying they were playing too many overplayed tunes,he wanted the slightly underplayed oldies and some mid tempo oldies but just got the 100 mph classics one after another..God bless the promoter because if you can please all then you are a god..I have plenty mates into oldies and they can't talk about what should/not be played without falling out and the same goes for mates into less known stuff,so what chance have we on here...This topic just goes round and round..Its just like a topic about rice pudding,do you like it cooked with a skin in the oven, heated on the gas,in the microwave, cold, with jam etc etc etc ...I like a good mix of tunes from 60s/70s,underplayed/classics/unknown/RnB/stompers/crossover/gritty grinders/beat ballads/mecca/stafford/Wigan...All in the same room on the same night...Yes thats my kind of night ..
  14. Is it because the playlists would be talked about on forums like this .They have to protect the god like status they have
  15. Good point Winnie I don't like overplayed or underplayed average tunes..Just underplayed great tunes with a few classics and a few rare bits... Thats what i like from a soul night....
  16. Did not know that your uncle was into Cajun Folk ,oooh sorry i mean father .. Most of the younger crowd i know got the vest and flares handed down from dad,he told them to stay away from the drugs, them same dads are now back on the scene going to venues that play repeats, have wheelchair ramps, table set up for 50th birthdays every month with cake/balloons and the crowd drink 20 pints each and still think they are 17..I think you are better off on drugs at another venue.. .. Love and peace... x
  17. Yes indeed a good tune...I have always wanted to get a load of original tunes for peanuts and sit there for days just cleaning them up and see whats what,it sounds mad to some but i am sure you know what i mean...for the job lot it cost less than 15p a tune ,they are in the condition of tunes that i see for inflated prices in some record shops Nothing in the lot that will go for any real money but nice all the same....Any more info on the others listed would help..Got to go and get cleaning them up and sifting..I aint really got a life ..
  18. ..She would not go near the toilet,i told you she don't like the smell of wee.. ..
  19. Good post Martin.... I know a young girl who does not come to nights anymore because of all the older blokes in the toilets taking off wedding rings and then chatting her up ,she was single but wanted men who still had teeth and not smelling of wee to chat to her..People like this girl loved the music but will not come back again to certain venues..
  20. How many times do we here of these places that repeat tunes all the time .My freind said of these places "spoon fed a diet of overplayed shite by promoters who just don't care" ..Vote with your feet, its the only way...I think more folk should have word with the promoter or the dj on the night and ask them why,see what answer they give before you poke them in the eye ... At the end of the day we see these places still full every month and so it seems a lot of people don't care about repeats and djs who have played the same set every month ,i would not want that but a lot do,plenty choice every week for all...Lets not get too frumpy about this,as the song says "you go your way and i'll go mine".. peace and luv.....Rev Kenny Lynch.. x
  21. There are a growing number of younger soulies for sure but spread far and wide..Gonna do my best to involve them in soul nights in 2007,i know have a number of younger lads who want to play tunes to a younger crowd, the next generation will never be anywhere near the numbers of the past but they are coming through..Its so good to see people like Paul B and other younger lads now with the same fire burning inside them, they want to buy records and they want to play to a new generation who have there own teeth and don't talk about the old days ..We were all young once and we wanted the same as them...Well i did..
  22. Always worth a gamble when they are giving them away..Works out at less than 30p each per record...Thanks for the message Joey D

  24. Without doubt one of the best niters ever for me,quality quality music, nights like this saved me and my mates from dropping out of the scene,we did not want the same old wigan oldies that were played everywhere, this place played real deal soul tunes for us..I had some mates into the regular Northern stuff and then they came here, they changed overnight....Like Alan says, great to hear sounds like Odds and Ends getting a play,dj who could try different stuff and not be told by the promoter to keep the floor busy at all times ..We wanted to walk all the way back to Manchester city center afterwards and just keepm the night going....Yes Ruby Andrews live, not a long show as i remember .. regards steve
  25. Look at my post in freebasing..I have found the way to talk things through between folk.. all aboard the love toilet..Check it out... ..I hope this don't mean i will get anything dropping on my mat
