  1. Is this Sean who was over in Yorkshire in the 80s sniffing around the girls.. ..I am the Steve Cato from Huddersfield but living in Manchester sice 88...Drop me a line mate, would be nice to catch up..Are you still working in London??
  2. Is that what you call singing. Aint nothing like dancing...
  3. Got two in the post this morning thank god, always nice to have something new for the weekend..Looks like the other tunes will have to wait..
  4. Looking for a price guide book..Any second hand copies for sale on here,Yorkshire folk will try and bargain always ;)drop me a line..Whats the best Manship or Goldmine???
  5. Nice post Brian... Four Tops, my first love on the road to soul salvation...."as long as you need me"
  6. Its like sex Mark, many times its good behind closed doors alone ,sometimes you want to have a group session and pop out to a venue...A bit of both shall we say
  7. Happy birthday soul brother... Have a good one my friend and let us all know if you find some soul or anything else
  8. The original post is talking about tunes for all-niters Mark and no talk of soul nights really, thats just been taken up since in other posts..
  9. Thanks for reminder Mike.. Can i add also that i have a good few copies of the last issue still for sale if any want copies before i send them back...
  10. Very diplomatic post Richard Good point with regards to djs who play early doors
  11. Good point Dave..I know what kind of urgency you require ...Like you say,its a niter thread really...Hope to see you for some urgency quite soon..
  12. I know many folk who are happy with mid tempo /crossover but don't dance, maybe its not always the floor that dictates the soul event??? the floor dictates more at a niter for sure thatn a smaller club with small dancefloor and mid tempo/crossover tunes a plenty..Many folk too who will only dance to the faster northern stuff and don't feel confident dancing to slower stuff but love it all the same...Its been said before Dave,we have a such a cross section of folk now that its not as easy as it was many moons ago to please all in one venue with one room....We are gonna have more and more folk going venues who don't dance anymore because of age etc,all this will take the toll on venues with large dancefloors looking half empty..I have promoted and played at clubs that can go both ways, have a larger dancefloor for some events and smaller one with more seating for others too... Like i said, this thread was started with regards to niters and i and others are talking about all formats of club...Yes all niters with 80% or more of faster tunes for most....
  13. You must be a snob mate ..Would it be ok if the jacket was from a more up market shop ... Can we have a photo of the jacket please if its mass produced???? I was thinking of a xmas present for Trevski
  14. Too true Brian The scene is and always will be about folk passing on and sharing this great music ...Yes a few bad apples but thats life...We know who they are and avoid them at all cost.. With regards to John nearly getting a semi ,yes its a good cd but can't work wonders like that... I have a link to another site that can help you mate... Nice topic and good to see folk pulling together...
  15. Robert Tanner ,you would say that tune now Trev after you spent your dinner money on it the other week... Yes a mix of tempo for me,done with skill and timing from a good dj...More mid tempo in a soul club and faster stuff at all niters for the folk who never sleep... Don't dwell on the tempo thing too long though..I danced to a fast tune at Barnsley all niter the other week and the dj said its mid tempo over the mic ...Maybe we have Slow beat ballads Mid tempo floaters upper mid tempo fast and then Towanda Barnes and the like for the folk on big medication ... Put this topic to bed now .. Sorry to mention good dj ,now thats open for debate too ..Like the song says "we go round in circles".. Love and peace x
  16. Got mine too in extra quick time...Thanks a lot my friend and a cold beer waiting for you NYE.. all the best Steve
  17. Last point on this before lunch... We see many more folk now with a record collection, built up over the years or the other type that have just thrown a sack full of cash at the game over the last couple of years...They all now want to dj at some place...If they don't get an offre then they just start another night and split the crowd some more.....No easy answer though...Maybe its just gonna be like the law of the jungle and survival of the strong ...If thats the case then we are all foooooooooked because some of the strongest are people i would not wish to meet in this life or the next.... The sun is shining and time for lunch...See you all back here later to try and save our soul scene from the devil...
  18. Not sure about that Pete...Yes we only see a small number who post but i have many freinds who are on here every day but never post, they still read all the topics..They just aint aint attention seeking loudmouths like you and me but they all count just the same...I would say that for the 50 that post there are 1,000 or more who read as much but don't post....
  19. I am sure we have all done it at some point Coops..Its what promoters have to do with all the overkill and competition..We sneak it into the thread or just go mad with a signature underneath ...
  20. One of the best posts i have seen on this topic... I am a lover of hard fast northern/mid tempo/crossover/gritty RnB and 70s too,i want to hear it all in the same venue on the same night..Many of my freinds only want the fast 60s northern, others only want the crossover /70s/mid tempo others want early RnB... There are more and more nights now to supply the individual needs of people with a limited taste, many of these nights do have a small crowd but supply the need for the crowd that go there, these smaller nights with a set music policy are just as much the lifeblood of the scene... Its like a left or Right wing party, they start off as one strong party but slowly it slits in two and then into smaller groups to cater for the needs of all...I would like one strong party and although i would not like all the policy,i can always go for a walk into the record bar or outside for a fag while there is something playing that aint to my taste... One persons upfront tunes is another persons oldies .. What is needed is for promoters and punters to come together. The all niter crowd is now a small one and too many niters aint good for the scene.... The real problem is that many of the promoters are at war with each other for various reasons and thats not gonna change, the bad blood is set in stone and they are all fighting for the same crowd...I would like to think that some will put all the shit behind them and smoke the peace pipe for the good of the scene but its like lord of the flies...Some promoters will say one thing regarding not clashing or have an agreement but when you turn your back they are trying to push your face in the shit..Its like war, they are all trying to get certain people/djs on side to make the other one suffer... There are 3 types of promoter 1....They do it for hard cash only and will try and destroy any others that dare to put on an event on the same planet.. 2.. The ones that do a promotions for the love of the music but still need to make a small profit/ for all the time/effort required.. 3... The one who does the night for pure love and can take a loss because they aint short of a few quid.. The answer is Prestatyn style niters with 5 rooms...But sadly 5 rooms aint enough for some ... God bless the promoter, who would want to be one
  21. Alwaya good to see you drop a line now again Andy.. you said..... A couple of weeks ago i cast my mind back to what a old school doorman told me " stand here let em kick the shit out of each other, when they've done go show them the door " So so true....Just sit back and watch it all...Its like feeding time at the zoo.....All the animals are trying feed from one small bowl and there just aint enough room or enough food...The fur will fly for sure
  22. Always a way of getting touch Dave.Ask for other contact details of the guy on the forum,i think that some person will know them and send another email address or phone number..If not then get the address and send the boys round
  23. Contact Pete Smith on here.....He is the man for tunes and i am sure he's got plenty of these tucked away in the loft..
  24. Can we have a name of the said event and promoter please.. Maybe they should have the same test as we did to see if someone was a witch.. Trevski can get the ducking stool ready..Why bother with a real Robert Tanner,i am sure the boots sound just as good ..
