  1. Yes i have done promotions in Manchester since 88 and know what the game is but this topic is abpout Northern events only... Different rules apply but we still have some dirty bas"ards out there who will try it on.... I have had posters taken down and flyers removed but only the odd time, most events are fine for putting out your info.. youtube the video
  2. Yes you do seem pretty loose when i see you out..
  3. Yes indeed.. As we get older it seems that many look to the bar for a beer.. It would be a brave promoter to put on an event without a bar .. I grew up with no beer at niters and could do that again but many want or need a pint.. Maybe more are without the magic black box effect and a few beers take the place.... My little night on the Friday at Cleethorpes was effected in numbers when the bar closed early on the Friday night.. No beer and no gear, not many of that brigade would stick around, maybe me included... Many have partners with them and the drink is a social thing between them and mates, when they were young and single they could just fuel up and dance till 8am, not the same now...
  4. Lets hope you don't double book with the health farm holiday again
  5. Hit nail on the head Steve... Now you have to find a way to make them all smoke the peace pipe ... "Nobody said it was gonna be easy" We live in hope....
  6. Been going to events in Europe and around the country for many years and find plenty that i like.. I always like to travel around and see new places, meet new people etc, that keeps it fresh for me.. There are still plenty folk out there who want to keep it fresh and moving.. The trouble is they are spread around the country and Europe and not able to co-ordinate getting events organised together on a regular basis maybe... Its a nice thought to have certain djs/ promoters coming together to put on a shows but there lies the problem.. If some djs/promoters don't get things as they want, they will break away to put on another event, law of the jungle.. Still plenty of good nights out for me when you look at the soul events calendar.. Get it while you can..
  7. Who is this promoter then, its nice to know who to avoid for future reference.... If your facts are correct then give us a name..
  8. Sad news indeed.... Was there at the start of it all in Manchester.... You can walk around with your head held high; unlike some other fu+kers who are lower than a snakes belly .. Ther will be some pondlife that think they have won the battle now ; 3 faced ego merchants who can;t look anyone decent in the face... The early events at the CIS really stand out for many people, those all niters brought a lot of people on this forum together for the first time.... Without the CIS there would have been no Ducie Bridge warm up; some of the best times of my long soul life..... John May:Brett:Shane:Pete:Jamie:Rich:Dave:Little Richard:Nick Hackett:Reg:Rachel:Paul B:Ferrett:Mike Hughes:Blade for life:Vaults of soul: and many many more made it all so special:: Time to relax now with good friends around you for nights out... Steve xxxxxxxxxxxxx
  9. 450 djs , what about the other 4,000 collector /djs too on here... Its like history in reverse... All the indians are dead and there are 300 genral custers shooting at each other .. Time for bed
  10. Good points there Rob and food for thought indeed... Apart from the club nights/ alniters we now have weekenders a plenty also into the mix, not sure how many at the last count in the uk alone.. Plus we now have many established weekenders around Europe too and the overseas punters have no real need to be come over to the uk to get a fix of soul.. There is no answer as everyone will have different takes on all this.. If the so called big name djs gave us the many really quality underplayed tunes then there would be no need to seek them elsewhere.. A lot of the times we have the same so called big djs playing the same tunes, over and over again, thats what some punters/ promoters want but others get bored and seek these tunes elsewhere and end up starting there own club to hear them... Like i said, there is no answer and i don't even try to find one, we have so many different people with a different take on what they want to hear.. Classics..Stompers..Mid tempo.... Crossover.. RnB... lesser known/ unknown rare, 70s soul/funk/disco, two step, soulful house etc etc.. If i had an answer it would be to have some of all the above in the same room Maybe a real dj in the true sense of the word is a person who could play all these styles to a large bunch of people in the same room at the same time.. Thats a real skill, it aint a real skill to have 200 box of Wigan classics and each week you change a couple round.. I am sure any of the djs on this site and elsewhere could do that no problem.. .. A dj for me is reading the crowd all the time and deep in thought as to what way to take them on a musical mystery tour... Is a dj there to take us on a journey or just there to take 20 requests???? i would like djs to take no requests and play what they wanna play, its a show for me, a real art form... I aint too fussed if i hear them play a few tracks i don't like as long as they are playing with imagination and keeping the music flowing... Its a broad church this soul scene and we all have so many different takes on what it should be like.. Maybe the law of the jungle is the answer but then we could have some real animals with all the power running the scene..
  11. ... Yes some good points on the thread.. Just get out there and do what you wanna do... Aint gonna change nothing banging the keys on here... There is so much going on around the uk and overseas, get out and about and live it... We are so lucky to have all this still going on.. Always look on the brightside of life peace peace and much much love Dave xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
  12. Sometimes Barry... Less is more Not all folk want to write a war and peace reply.... Don't always go round the houses, just spit it out man... I can tell you have a fine mind, not like that Kev from Mansfield, one cse in woodwork ...
  13. Sent details in pm... Hope you can read them ok.. If not then its here also.. stevecato64@yahoo.co.uk speak soon my old duck.. x
  14. A few quotes from folk on here are really looking up the back passage and i smell bullshit... Who is anyone to say what the scene should be.. We have so many different takes on it all.. Just do what you wanna do and don't listen to the preachers of faith toooooooooo much... Like the church we have many different takes on what the gospel is all about.. Just gather around your flock and have ball... go out to niters every week and don't sleep till Tuesday Go local and in bed by 2am.. Fresh as daisy for walks in the park with the kids.. dance to fast uptempo northern dance to mid tempo beat ballads that pull at the heart strings chin stroke in the record room talk shite outside all night with the fag brigade sit on your own in a little dream world and just listen to the music And always do what you wanna do and not what others think you should do..
  15. You are so last week mate.. Its " lets have it"

  21. Cheers Billy... Tell your good lady i will be over pretty soon to sort her basket out Yes Willy you did catch a wobble, gonna sort it asap... Thanks Donna for spotting the ring pull action, its rockN roll.. Just a little film about a day in the life of a gathering.. As Kev said " no animals were used in the making of this film".. Not sure if any have seen the other two short films on Monday/Tuesday and the last one same time tonight.. All are just the day in the life.. The film on Monday about an old man going up the mountain barefoot each year with 20,000 other people to worship... Thats the link between the films, the old man says " i hope to do this journey every year as long as i can walk".. There are many on this scene saying the same thing.. Do it while you can... Passion is everything.. Long time dead..

Really special moment to get it home and play it for the 1st time in 35 years.. Lable and vinyl in very good condition too Thanks to everyone for all the help in my search... If any more copies turn up then i will let you know and please let me know if you find anymore.. A rare track indeed it seems with no official release, just the 500 to band members to sell local in the West Yorkshire area...
  24. Its been said before.. You white folk do have a few singers that can hold a tune and deliver soul indeed But no Rhythm when it comes to dancing Many people have liked a tune and thought it was a black singer, only to find out later they were white, case closed really.. Or do they then stop liking the the tune ..
  25. thanks so much.. Great man indeed.. Great to see folk like this coming together, thats what its all about..
