  8. Most car parks with hotels have cctv nowadays.. I know as i have worked the door at quite a few.. No point in speculation before you check the tapes.... ..
  9. Many good answers to the original question Imber.... You have a leaning towards niters as your envolvement with Middleton shows.. Many feel the same way but many also get the kicks in others ways... Just keep on pushing what you do and let others get on with it in any way they choose.. There aint no right and wrong, all niters/ soul nights/internet/ ebay etc etc, just do what you wanna do and get a buzz off the folk who feel the same way... A good point from Paul S about the all niter scene and main room djs... Maybe its a case of some playing far tooooooo often and folk don't go along sometimes because that dj is playing the same set or many of the same tunes far toooooooo often... I think the soul nights and diverse djs can sometimes be more rewarding than the main room niters boys who have to keep the floor going with so called big tunes at times... Just do what you wanna do and do it with passion... Or maybe leave it alone
  10. Beat me to the punch.... I do and will always love the all niter scene, don't mind long trips home on the train sometimes its all part of the experience.. Yes indeed Imber Boy must have been to some other type of soul niights than many of us... There are plenty quality soul nights that don't have the handbag brigade and all that goes with it... plenty indeed I know what Imber means by the all niter world, nothing quite like it sometimes, out on the floor with like minded people at 5am is a great buzz.. The problem is that the buzz just aint there for many anymore for many reasons.... Age/drugs/family/ choice of music etc..
  11. I think the answer is just do what you wanna do and get your soul fix the way you want it... Its been said before... Niters are getting longer and longer with the early starts, beers and old age kick in and many start to drift well before the end and the same buzz just aint there( for many, not all).. I have better times at soul certain soul events and find the music more to my taste a lot of the time... plus i can semi function the next day(sometimes) and go to watch the footie, hop on a train and do some culture, see friends etc.. Many event run from early evening to around 3/4am, thats long enough for me and you can get 7 hours or so of dancing/soul for sure.. The last 2/3 hours of many niters are not what they used to be with everyone there at the end and looking for the meet up in the service stations or looking for an all dayer.. The smoking ban and all night bars have had an effect on the niters for sure and that aint gonna change.. So Imber is all niter person for sure and can't see why many want the soul fix some other way, i think many have given him an answer on this post.. Just do what you wanna do..... Long time dead...
  12. Maybe the guys go the original mixed up with the carving he's took off it .... We have all liked a tune to think twice later on, be it a few weeks or a few years.. You just put it up for sale and hope you get waht you paid or even make a profit... Maybe he played it out someplace and it cleared the floor .. Name and shame indeed... If the person thinks thats out of order then they can post and please a case..
  13. Yes good call Chalky.. The Seal track does lose it for me towards the end a little.... As a one off its quite fresh but don't think i would want to hear him do all them classics, maybe a little too much with regards to classic cover versions........
  14. Maybe a full time job for you there Brian... Get well soon Sam...
  15. Not a bad version of this great soul track... Good strong vocals.. Always loved the lyrics on this track... "Its been a long time coming, a change is gonna come" Says it all really...
  16. Any place thats good enough for Buckley the boot .....
  17. And i have seen dj sound pretty flat as they can't get a flow with the other gimp killing it for him .. Short sets?? long sets?? sometimes one other times another.. I think the 1 hour set for a niter is still the best... You just make sure the best djs are playing the main hours when folk .. But who is judge who the best are???? the punters or the promoter... Maybe thats another topic..
  18. The world wide net gives us much info at the click of a switch... Just got this from quick google search.. also in google about Dap Kings and others in the soundtrack for the movie ... Article taken from N.M.E.... Paul Weller, Duffy, Mark Ronson's band for Northern Soul film soundtrack Paul Weller 2005 Plus 'Souled Out' producers are looking for extras Aug 14, 2008 0 Comments Paul Weller news, reviews, video and tour dates Add Paul Weller to MyNME Paul Weller, Duffy and Mark Ronson's studio-band The Dap-Kings are working on the soundtrack for a new independent film about Britain's 1970's Northern Soul phenomenon. 'Souled Out' stars BAFTA winner Martin Compston, who rose to fame after appearing in Ken Loach's 2002 film 'Sweet Sixteen'. The movie's producers are looking for extras who are willing to appear in some of the dancehall scenes, which will be filmed in Stoke-On-Trent on August 23. Those interested are asked to apply on the film's website, Ipsofactofilms.com. Northern Soul has made something of a comeback in recent times, with artists such as Amy Winehouse and The Rumble Strips taking a direct influence from the scene. One of Paul Weller's earliest songs - a homage to the genre titled 'Left, Right and Centre' - was recently covered by Northern Soul legend Dean Parrish and sometime Babyshambles' collaborator Lord Large. Lily Allen's brother Alfie is also set to star in 'Souled Out', which will be released in 2009.
  19. Nice thought.. Can the mods/Mike take up on this..
  20. I think Paul Weller did a very very good take of "Thinking of you" Also thought the Levi stubbs and the four tops did a pretty nice cover of If I were a carpenter from the Tim Hardin original.. Love both versions indeed..
  21. "Oh baby, baby, where is that rainbow, i wanna know"... Thats what its all about for me... x
  22. Maybe a question for a new topic Reg, it could take up some time for them to answer that... Way way off topic
  23. My Levi is gone... My first love on the road to soul heaven... He changed my life at the age of 15.. I too danced at home and did learn my first steps to this great mans voice.. As some of you will know, i like to finish my dj sets with only one song.. Its brought sheer joy at the Oz weekender 2004, Sleepless nights and at many other venues also... Nothing like sharing this tune with people switched on in the same way.. I can't do the soundclip bit, if anyone could please post my number one record then it would be nice to share it with you all.. Please please a soundclip of If i were a Carpenter Soul Or Nothing indeed regards Steve Cato
  24. Glad to see its for a mate... They won't let you out of the country with that tag under your long socks Really wanna get to New York for some soul soon, we shall see..
  25. One of the greatest ballads i have ever heard, always in my play box at home... Just what i need for a real deal soul fix.... Tunes that just leave you breathless with the mountain of pain and emotion.... Gonna have to go and play it now before i get off to work... Sound clip anyone???
