  1. Had a chat with a few folk over the last week about whats going on.. The coming together of smaller rare soul clubs in the same area is a good solution... Alternating between the two venues each month.. Makes sense but then some residents would have to step ndown maybe.. And we know that aint gonna be easy for some Good luck Phil with Burnley, we know its a tough game and aint no let up for all niter in events for 2010.. The all niter world is the boxing ring, gloves off Mr Quinvy and come out snarling All the best Steve
  2. Burnley in the Prem and now Burnley the center for soul... Go for it Phil...
  3. Get off the clobber topic on here then Dylan
  4. Rick says Just Northern and Whatsthiscalled says he is depriving himself .. The point of the topic was.. There is enough choice for you both to find what you want.. You go get your mixed bag of soul and Rick can stick with the northern... Both happy that way.. Quite simple... win win... for now.. Time will tell what is the way forward by bodies through the door at certain events..
  5. Good points Phil... Nothing would get me through the door at KH and i am sure many others feel the same... I like the independant side to the scene and not some big promoter who wants to stamp a brand around the country... I think some promoters will have to put on joint events in the future for all niters but it don't have to be under the gold soul brand or any other... The underground side to the scene will keep going, it will just need tweaking and promoters sitting down with each other and maybe less events but better organised ones... Time will tell... Good topic..
  6. Hi Rick Room for all types of music at different venues... Would always want the likes of Middleton in the same format... Also like the funk mixed in at other venues.. Room for other music at club venues and bars and second rooms.. Not saying change anything mate, its just that i like various venues at different times.. cheers steve
  7. I am with you on that Spirit... The dancefloor is my church.. I don't want spit/ blood/ beer or people dancing like that drunken uncle at a bad wedding on there.... I also aint doing group hugs with men who get hard in the pants while talking about matrix numbers yet .. Maybe thats to come in later life..
  8. Lydia looks fine.. I look like a cross between Bill Cosby and Andy Peters .. Will mail you the cartoon mans details and website... Back on topic.... now.... sorry...
  9. Some fantastic feedback with regards to the new Brixton all niter.. A mixed crowd dancing to soul and funk tunes.. Some put this down as the way forward, as was the case when i was part of the promotions for Soul Revolution.... Maybe the way forward for some but not for others.. I really enjoyed Soul Rev in London with a real mixed crowd and broad musical taste.. All kinds of people and style of dancfloor ettiquett that could piss some off... I like more tradtional all niters too with a hardcore crowd of soulies that know the score and things aint changed much in 30 years.. I like the taking the music into little bars without or very little dancefloor and playing different tempo and style from early RnB, jazz, Northern, beat ballads/ deep soul, ska funk, crossover etc etc.. I like Mod events that play 60s RnB encourage a certain style of dress.. I like some crossover modern events too.. I lke the European events with a youger crowd Or sitting around at home with jazz fags and listening to deeeeeeeep soul wrist slashers for hours on end and making grown men and women cry ( you know who you are) I can mix with shandy drinking southern folk, northern ferrett breeders, mad Geordies, drunken scots and Irish and them overseas folk too... Maybe i am a strange creature who can be at home at any of these events .. All these type of events and people are present on this forum and the scene in general... Some people at all of these events are trying to push it as the way forward ... I would like to think the way forward is for people to just go and do what they wanna do and let others do the same.. There is so much choice at the moment, get it while you can, long time dead and all that... I'm in heaven at the thought of these choices each weekend... Can't imagine life ( or don't want to) without it.. Peace brothers and sisters.. The rev.... Kenny Lynch.. xxxxx
  10. Good points... Ady said that he did not pay djs in the upstairs room at Cleethorpes... If they got free tickets for themself and partner in exchange for playing a set upstairs ( as was the case with djs playing in the soul or nothing room ), i think thats a better deal and they are quids in.. 2 weekend passes are worth more than a dj would get to play a little set in the 3rd room i think.... All this chat about whats right and wrong??? Its up to each promoter and the individual djs to work out a deal.. Be that free entry for guests/ free beers/ cash/ records or something for the weekend.. I have known all these things to be options over the years.... The promoter making plenty cash and using djs that he knows will do it for nothing are a different breed indeed... They smell like something i have found on the bottom of my shoe at times...
  11. Its gonna get worse with age.
  12. Always have this subject cropping up... I and many others love to see the tempo change, when djs get it right its pure heaven and really makes my night... Emitt Long aint a dance tune .. Could never sit down to this tune, pure soul heaven that make your feet just glide... Emitt Long is pretty up-tempo for me One persons shite is another persons soul heaven... Nothing gonna change there..
  13. Bunny Sigler.. Girl, don't make me wait too long...
  14. Message to all promoters in the notts region.. if you numbers have been down then there is a dj out there who would swell your next event by 500 at least.. You would have to spend a few quid on extra security though...
  15. Looking for a little soul tonight maybe, down in Chelmsford at the moment and maybe heading over to London later... Whats on in the region please???
  16. Thanks for that info Steve, thats seems to clear it up... All the best Yet another Steve
  17. Is that 100 or 1,000.. If thats over a thousand and the dj don't get paid then something his very wrong, was he a warm up dj just given an early spot??? whats the venue??? can't be many that get them kind of numbers... Was he/ she playing the main room or some small second/ third room??
  18. get in touch with Steve Thomas on here, I am sure he will know whats going on arounf that part of the world..
  19. just had an old jazz fm tape on featuring Keith money from the late 90s i guess.. keith was talking about the spidells, dream girl and it was given a spin... Who broke this b-side and when, was it Keith??? cheers steve
  20. In the 80s they had a few rooms for all niters i think, was it called Rockies or placemate 7?? did go there a few times too..
  21. Its moments like this that we take with us on in our life of soul Marc..... Only heard the other version a couple of years ago, sounded fantastic out loud in the Hideaway and a very nice surprise to me... Not a bad effort at all but just don't stab me in the heart like the Ray Pollard version...
  22. Thanks Mark For posting just what i wanted to say... To hear that tune in the early hours of the morning surrounded by the children of the night.... My heart... My soul... My life... xx
  23. Jackie Beavers.. Bring me all of your heartaches... Don't wanna lose you... JJ Barnes.. Chanins of love.... Baby please come back home... Eddy Giles... Losing boy... I got the blues.. And to top it all.. Lorraine Rudolph... I 'll keep coming back for more..... After all iv'e been through ( my take on deep soul heaven )
  24. " side by side on my keyboard oh lord why can't we" Now that deep soul ballad was after 72 i think
