  1. This made me smile, quite a lot... What about another room at weekenders for this... It would work for sure.... Please find the flyer Chalky for the Stoke event, missed out on that one.... Its Northern Soul tat, plenty of it around... why be shocked.... Well maybe if i did see " keep the faith colostomy bags for sale "... Now that would be taking the piss
  2. Don't despair Plenty of folk on the forum, just avoid those where possible that get your back up... I think this thread is reaching its natural end... Same outcome as before... Some care about vinyl ethics and some don't give a flying f"ck... I am sure the same question will come up again pretty soon.... Just go where you wanna go, plenty choice indeed.... Regards The black plastic club.... 2010....
  3. yes indeed... Very few copies indeed.. Very fond memories of hearing Mr Banks play this from many moons ago... holy grail springs to mind.. tuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuune...
  4. I did not know of all these places using cds, never been to a soul event with cd playing djs, must be just the places i go, i have always thought it was just the very very odd event that did this, how wrong i was.. Lets not get into another cd/ ovo debate .... Its been done to death.. As we have said, the answer is yes, some folk/ promoters/ venues don't care what format is used... Will it get to the stage where each flyer will have to state what format is used So mr Soulmanash, you call me a purist, ha ha, thats a new one on me... I just thought soul events played vinyl, thats the way i was brought up and the people i knock around with i guess... rest in peace....
  5. The golden gateway means something different to some Ian .... Don't put that on your profile Yes indeed Ian... Its all about where you grow up i guess.. Huddersfield for me and very much a northern soul backdrop in every youth club mid 70s...
  6. I think it was more the term northern soul was not underground, very much a common word and many knew something about it.. Northern on the play list at our youth club and then the early teenage discos for 14/ 17 year olds.... Lots of my mates would dance along but never took it any further in the future... Maybe only a few thousand full timers but many many many more who dipped a toe in now and again... Many mates would always want to hear the classics but some of us had moved on to more underground sounds that the disco did not play...
  7. Me and Lydia hope to be over too, this couple need looking after Thanks for the info....
  8. And now you must define non scene????? I did a night many moons ago where we could use vinyl and cd, i put on a cd track and popped off for a piss, while in the toilet i could hear that sound of the cd skipping, came back out and had the packed house laughing at my misfortune It was a sign from the gods i think, never used the fooking cd option again... The answer is do what you want mate... Many don't care what is played on... We have been in bars with djs and heard a good tune, gone over to the dj to pay respect and then see they are using the cd decks, could not help thinking we were being cheated, but thats just some of us i guess..... The doctor calls it a black plastic condition.... Can't say i would ever get moist seeing a dj walk in with a box of cds...
  9. some really good posts on the social history around the uk but i do think its swerving from the question posted at the start.. Maybe a new topic regarding the social history,i guess many have a have some different take on that.... Does Northern soul celebrate failure more than success???
  10. Storm in a tea cup Ian... OVER 10,000 members and a few comments on any of the above don't mean too much really... With regards to sucess, i have no problem with that, i do have a problem with some people though in the way they get to where they wanna be and who they shit on to get there... Maybe i am an idealist but would like to think that success can come about from hard work but retaining the respect of people also, some have the success but will never get the respect from many because of the way they go about business....
  11. 10 pages in and its still going.. I think the dance class topic been covered now and all who want it have been in touch with Sharon... Orders have been made for ktf mugs/ briefs and dog blankets.... Mr Wigans been hung drawn and put out on the line again... As the yanks say... Are we looking at closure now Paul ????? As with many topics its drifed a little from the original post and that topics been done already and i guess will be done again sometime....
  12. There aint much i could add to that Jocko... Glad to have you back mate...
  13. A good honest post indeed... You will also get a difference from folk who are still out on " the scene " and those that stay home and get pleasure/soul fix in other ways....
  14. Been talked about so much and will again for many moons to come.. This topic is about what some people see as being naff/ tack/ without taste... Its the people that push the stuff that use the words northern soul all the time.... That is the problem for many people.. Its all oppinions, nowt is gonna change there... Some like to shop in a underground bunker while others like the shopping center I don't like the really deep dark bunkers or shopping center, my gender is all confused and trying to find a nice place to shop without comiing across the little Adolf brigade or those that choose to dance outside specsavers... My flyer says underplayed Northern along with other stuff... If i just put Northern soul on my flyer then i know from past experience of many years that i will get some customers coming and asking for certain classic northern soul tracks that i don't feature.... There are enough places to go to listen to Classic northern soul and plenty places to go to listen to something a liitle different now, at least we have plenty choice, some would say toooooooooooooooooooo much... More info the better for me, i could make the trip and end up very pissed off with music that don't rock my boat.... I too would like a mix of all styles in one room but many folk have closed ears to certain sounds.. I have always pushed my events a mix of styles and look for a people who l ike the same thing, i just don't push the classic northern events game or the it as to be £1,000 tune or more ( look at dick ) brigade.. My event plays black retro gender benders.. Another new name to go along with folks Maybe not rare as in price all the time but something you won't find on the shelf at Tesco... All these different names/ styles It can be confusing Shop around folks and watch out for stale bread and snide iffy watches that cost a lot but don't ever really tell the time...
  15. Yes indeed..... We know what happened when the makers of that other film came on here to promote Souled Out I think Elaine and others will learn something from that heated debate ...
  16. Just caught the end of a channel four thing.. "my big fat gypsy wedding " Watch it on channel 4 plus 1 now... Bad taste aint the word.. Watch right at the end, the only thing missing was them Frank Wilson cuff links i guess... Sorry off topic...
  17. Got me thinking about what to add to my range now down at the pressing plant.. I don't think there are enough look a like labels to choose from.. From Monday i will have Muttly..... The dogs bollocks in deep soul... Swans.... Something for the soul birds out there.. Wands... Magic new release soundalike 60s stompers.. And.. Muff records.. Fot those who like to dive into a bit of Detroit..
  18. Fantastic stuff.. My god.. There really must be a market for this stuff i guess....
  19. For sale at weekenders ... I must have walked past these stalls many times then, never had a look, hard to believe indeed.... If they are for sale then there must be a market ... I did see some mugs and a clock once on a stall but did not realise that this kind of stuff was there for sale... I aint offended by this tat, i think its comedy value is fantastic.. Can any of you send me a link to any sites selling this kind of thing please, maybe in a pm to keep this on some kind of topic.. I would buy this for mates for its comedy value alone... That post as made my week...
  20. Is this for real or just something you have put together on a computer??? Is there really things like this for sale What place/ company or people can put out this stuff... I think its a joke aint it
  21. When Ali beat Sonny Liston to win the World Heavyweight crown for the first time, he had Sam Cooke and Malcolm X in his corner. If Ricky Hatton ever fights Floyd Mayweather again ( ), I think he'll have to do better than Wayne Rooney,,, Mr Bailey I wish you lived a little closer to me mate... Could talk to you till the cows come home mate...
  22. Thanks so much Gareth... A great thread indeed... A nice thing to hear as you come in from work and put your feet up... Stunning version...
