Thats the point thats been overlooked by many.. Back in the day it was a youth thing and many at 14/15 and younger were going to all niters.... Its not the same now with a much much older crowd... I would not want children at soul events or in a place for adults with drinking and other things going on.. I would say no to children in public after the hours of 6pm... or the Children Catcher is called.. untitled.bmp untitled.bmp

They sing that old classic song by that bloke wwith a cupboard full of video's .... " do you wanna be in my gang, my gang my gang".... Well the answers is a big no from many of us......
-
As i said a right to reply Phil... And with respect too, thanks for that... Its a topic of interest to many...... Let the agressive emails stay as emails....I am sure a ffew curtain twitchers would like to know what they say but maybe not for consumption on here...
-
most piss on the seats.... Maybe a poll on that from Webby

I am sure Phil will come back and answer these questions, i am sure i would if wanting to promote large scale events, its not easy with all on side and it looks like Phil is off a couple of xmas card lists now... This thread will never stop the fighting i guess but could help avert world war 3 Time for zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz... go easy folk....
-
Not the first to do this kind of thing and not the last i guess... Its always gone on.... It must look so foolish to people looking on.... So Kev.... Soul over easy is the devil now i take it Yes it looks like plenty more fun and games, lets just hope they aint all on here... Its a forum for fun and the games can get a little boring...

Things have changed Stan.... Most niters have running water now and sometimes even hot water for a wash .... The seedy venues are a thing of the past really, still the odd place with plumbing issues only chill out space to chat also.... See you at a niter sooon Stan

The flyer/ poster is safe.. But you don't need the 5,000 for every event.... A bunch of flyeers and posters in the right places will do fine... Back on topic.. events threads and lookback

I dont care at all dave about all niter listing in calendar, was just a comment and sugestion. Not a request.. Some good points posted.

Don't worry Bearsy... As i said before, the soul scene is only a mirror of society... There are good guys, bad guys, bull shi""ers, kind hearted, back stabbers, genuine, liars, cheats, honest as the day is long, life long friends, humble, ego etc etc etc... Nothing new there.... Was that understanding or not understanding that makes you want to take a break????????? Too many good folk to let the pricks get me down.... just stay away from the dark corners...

A tune i have loved since the 90s, bought it on some rare funk comp album, will have to dig it out... We could play it off the album in the small bars without the soul police around .. Was a feature tune on my pirate radio show called " more funk than a bag of skunk", we played out of a block of flats in Salford, always a person on guard to see if we were gonna get busted... I had to give it up as busts in the past were common and they would take away all the sound equipment and records too, no way i was gonna risk my tunes really.... Good call Paul...... TUUUUUUUUUUUUUNE INDEED......

Indeed... high profile events from Phil and his mate Bob A big glossy rival for goldsoul... Some good points put forward on this thread.. Good luck to all you promoters.... Its a jungle out there....

A very good point mate... I really liked the times when we had all ou mates going together and setting off on an all niter trip... Not the same now at all.... Its a big factor for me and others i know... So many events to choose from and a life to lead thrown into the equation, it makes it hard to get all the crowd out to the same event... plus i have mates into all aspects of the scene from RnB to crossover/ 70s.. They splinter off into smaller groups and choose there own music and club nights... We are older now and more selective in what we want to listen to, this too will have an effect on promotions for sure.... The rise of the multi room all niter does help in getting all parties into the same venue, as does the multi- room weekender... These are on the rise, does that mean a one room all niter will struggle?? The weekender calendar is growing all the time, this will have a big impact on other promotions for sure... All promoters will have to take a close look at the all niter calendar in planning events... The rise in European events too is a factor for sure.. There are now many quality events around Europe, all niters and weekenders, this is a popular destination for many from the uk and the uk events aint getting the Euro travellers as before, they have enough going on without having to come to the uk.... I like the option of European weekends, for some soul and a holiday in a nice destination... For this we would save cash and maybe miss out some events here... The Euro events and weekenders are growing all the time, promoters need to take notice..... I am looking to go to more European events and weekenders next year, many others doing the same.... Somethings got to give i guess.. As Rob says, you pays your money and makes your choice...

It seems that the Six Hills all niter is not on, maybe it can be deleted from all niter calendar, that does say the most up to date list and a place i would look first for all niter details.... My apologies for the mistake.... Was trying to make a constructive post and used a night hoping to fill a venue a 1,500 venue will have an affect on other established nights for sure... This huge promotion dropped into an already overcrowded events list and i am sure there are plenty promotions around that area who have established nights, this must have an affect on them for sure..... But its about all niter enticer i guess and its soul events will suffer that weekend only.. I see that Chalky as started a promoters topic... Could this open up debate and bring heads to the table or is it a waste of time and way too late to change folks... We shall see...

The age old question Des... Don't ever liked closed shop.... There must always be room for self expression too... Yes tooooooooooooo many events and too many djs.... A big difference in the last 10 years is the ammount of quality ( imo ) rare soul events that run alongside all niters, you can get your fix of rare soul without the handbag brigade, get home and rest and still be able to do other things on a weekend.. Thats the option for many now, we aint spring chicks anymore .. The early start of niters does impact on local soul clubs and the late licence of the soul clubs, 3am does impact on the niter, no problem in the past, we all were up for doing both but not anymore.... Things will have to change as the crowd gets older and not a huge ammount of youth to fill the void.... It will take some sorting as many promoters aint on each others xmas card list but it will have to be sorted.... Lets hope heads can come together and keep the scene going strong... One thing i don't wanna see is the bitch fights and mudd slinging on a public forum , it shows no class, poor breeding and a lack of respect for the thousands of people who have supported events over the years.. It will take the promoters of soul clubs and all niters to put heads together and sort something out... We now have some djs out playing every weekend , maybe play less folks and keep it fresh, leave the box at home and go and support another event.. Many clubs are every month and struggle to get a crowd, go bi monthly or every qtr then, you will get a better turn out and also stop the night looking stale.... This topic is niter enticer, this means a look at the whole soul scene... People will only go out so many times a year, be that soul club or all niter... There as been a need for heads to come together for many years now but some would not piss on each other if they were on fire , thats been one of the big problems and will remain so.... There is a need for more input from certain promoters and djs, but many of them have no input at all on forums or in fanzines, they choose to keep quiet, this means nothing gets sorted and this topic crops up a few times every year.... Maybe some of these folk could have some input here????? Many folk have plenty to say while talking in dark corners, that gets fooook all sorted, its needs to be brought to the table... Too many djs are clinging on to spots and don't want to rock the boat and maybe upset the promoters who give them bookings, you know who you are folks and many of you say nothing out loud... Nothing at all... This does not help the progression of the best music scene in the history of the universe..... A smoking of the peace pipe is needed and some thought put into promotions... Don't just do that " well i could not find anothe date" so you put on an event to clash with another close by and split the crowd, cause friction among promoters and leave a bad smell that lingers for far too long.... There iis an all niter planner, set out well in advance... Why don't all them promoters come on the forum and share thoughts with the rest of us.... plan out the year between yourselfs and let the punters have input too, you could have local club promoters also chipping in with thoughts... This would be a big help indeed and a way forward.... An all niter promoters topic with all the all niter promoters/ djs taking part, now that would be something that many many punters would like to see.... A classic example is the extra all niter at Stoke Kings Hall in August to promote this new soul film.... Its not anything thats been on the all niter calendar, did the promoters look at the calendar and not see another all niter listed just down the road, did they also talk to local club promoters???? they would like to fill a venue that holds over 1,500 people and i am sure they would like it full, where do they expect to get the crowd from, joe public or drag them away from other soul events and again cause friction and piss people off.... If the promoters of this event did talk to all parties and take into account other soul promotions that weekend then please let us know, i would not want to cast you in a bad light if its not the case..... Some people need to go out and buy a big mirror , then take a good look into it.... You talk like little Red riding hood but all we see is the wolf... Rant over.. time for work... peace... love and rice pudding will bring this world back together... Rev.... Kenny Lynch xxxxx

maybe because the other version came out on Soul Function CD with Function at the junction film.... They would want to distance themself from another northern soul film soundtrack i should think.... I like both versions as a pretty nice pop song.... good production... Kiki said in an interview to the producer on the soul function release that Magic Carpet Ride is her fav song....
-
maybe it does but not on this thread i guess... Soulboy topic is enough to keep us going for the next 5 years at least.... The anoraks can get all moist soon and tell us the mistakes in the film.... Can't wait Much didvide view points on this film, nothing new there , same as divided viewpoints on many other topics.... All the fun of the fair....
