Some food for thought there... The 2 camps for me are folk with a direct/ indirect connection with this film or other projects and those with none.. The latter can seem to go watch it with no preconceptions and take it at face value.... Not the same for others and that me included... A real mixed bag of reviews with regards to my mates at the moment... A good topic and the mix of reviews are what keeps a thread fresh... All welcome and of interest.. Like with much in life, what floats your boat can be a bag of shite to others... Plenty reviews coming in now as the film gets a few more viewings around the country.... Keep them coming.. Cheers

Always been many around Manchester.. The black fist and Northern Soul is a real eye catcher to many folk... I think its a quality image if you take a step back and look at it.... The trouble is that we on the inside associate the image with all Northern soul tat that belongs on the market or weekender stalls with lady's briefs with a black fist on them ... The over used image, just like Wigan gives many of us the the blues, not soul as it was intended... But to a young trendie i can see the attraction..... And it does look good on many of them in my humble opinion.. This kind of things meant for cute/ skinny kids, not for an older people with a full figure ... Overused images to us are still a great image when you step back, the Target and the mod scene being another example.... That like the fist is a design classic.... Again in my humble opinion, thats why they keep coming back, time and time again.... Never seen an older lady wearing the black fist knickers, i have seen some being bought by them... Maybe best i get the thought and picture out of my head now .... ktf.... Kill greasers.. Fancy a beach fight... Here comes the night owl.... Right on brother... Black N White unite... We are the mods.... bla bla bla bla bla bla.... Ok when a teenager but not so cool when we are putting our teeth in a jar each night... Just a thought..

Not a tune for all mate but when it came out the speakers in the little room at Radcliffe, i and many others were taken to another place... Don't have to be the future for all but i am sure there is room for it at some venues.... Many of these tunes featured aint gonna hit the spot for some.. No worry... The ammount of venues means we can all get a little of what we like... Be it.. The more tradional northern.... Or funk edged Ghetto thats as dirty as dirty can be ....

I would like to wipe out quite a few of these posts.. Start a topic on what you think is Northern.. Give us a break, i have to read this shite.. We know what Pauls view of the film is now, we also have other views, just as valid.... Thats what its about.. Did you like it or find it a pile of poo... Who as the right to tell others what is right or wrong... We all see so many things in a different way... Don't have to agree, just tell us your views and leave others to do the same.... A dancer from day 1...... Never been a place on the scene like the dancefloor..... Its the magical place..... Allways collected a few bits with more in the last 10 years..... Love my vinyl but don't know all the info required to get a sniff of an Anorak, don't care that much really... You feel that more members are anoraks???? not at all sure about that... The anoraks just have the biggest gobs on here....

This is what makes it a really good subject, crossed views.... I take notice of some reviews... The problem with this and any other films is always gonna be the people within the scene and those on the outside.... A review proffessional or not from a person on the outside will be looking at the film from a different angle, not maybe the angle thats gonna be of benefit to many of us.... The film makres would have been best keeping the adverts/ topic away from forums like this and could have avoided a lot of negative feedback, they could have got it out more to the mass market and got a better reception.. Word would have spread here but not all the negative stuff and many more on the scene would have been wanting and chomping at the bit to see it... Like i said before, half the battle is how to market a product you want to sell... Looks like the marketing side is getting into shape but way way too late really.... A film of this nature should have had every independant cinema bursting at the seems with full houses and then onto a big dvd market.. I would think a film of this nature could have been of Quarophenia proportions if they got the buzz right.... Not as easy nowadays maybe with mass media/ internet etc, this medium does take something away from it all i guess... Many more reviews to come.... Bring em on...

Yes Mark... A need for the image outside to represent whats on the screen inside.......

Its about how to promote Mr Smith, generate a buzz, get the juices flowing and get bums on seats... You said it, passing public..... Not paying public who were impressed enough to go and see the film.... The clothing comment was my own " 50s style and mod seems an odd mix to me " Time and time again the promotions are done for this movie and fall on their arse... Someone must be in control of the promtional side??? whoever that is, dont give up your day job Its on at the cornerhouse Manchester.... Maybe a chance to make my own mind up at last...

Thats just crazy........ Quite a few people i know in London asking where and when is it on...Quite a bit of chat on facebook friends too.. Its all in the promotion i guess.... A lesson to be learnt from this for others to come...

Yet another own goal on the promotions side... Not sure about the thought thats gone into the styling of the dancers for a film set in 1973.... 50s style and mod style makes no sense to me... Its more like Grease meets the blues brothers... Young dancers male and female with some good looking kids would have been more on the money... Many many years work goes into putting a film together and time and time again the promotional side looks like its been put together in a few minutes with little thought for impact... It lacks the Va va vooooooooooooooooooooom that would really draw you in.... IMVHO... Just a thought...
