  2. Just list away... Its a site for all.. A gent and selling records at rock bottom prices .... My kind of guy More gents please and rock bottom prices... Time are hard...
  3. Its been of great interest to me, the licence side and bootlegging will answer a few questions on the other topic... Cheers for putting this out... The Yellow did clash with the background Ady, maybe a word with wardrobe next time
  4. Not sure all could read that text, even with a click to enlarge A well written and thought provoking write up indeed... A person did post above " without Wigan we would not have a scene today",... Its all food for thought..
  5. Indeed it is about opinions.. The original question was based on the quote of a person i guess was there at the start of the underground scene and how his/ her views to the changing times and the birth of Wigan.. Maybe the member i quoted will comment, that could give an insight to their feelings at the time.. Was this a quote of back in the day or a view looking back with hindsight???? The soul V Northern soul is another question that comes up all the time... I am a lover of soul music, some Northern comes into that category, some are lovers of their take on Northern soul, for some its just the beat that gets them hooked, for me it was the soulful content first and if that came with a great beat then all my birthdays had come at once.... Like i said before, the original quote could have meant "soul" with regards to the underground going overground and the scene losing its cool.. Rather like the original mods who left the scene before 64 and the Brighton beach fights, a time when mod was no longer a small tight underground scene that few knew about.. More view from older members who lived the times could help us get a grasp of the original quote... Some site Wigan as losing its soul after a period of time (77 ) while this quote looks to say it was the case from the start in 1973...
  6. an official re-mix maybe... but without written permission... ..
  7. people can have a sense of missing out on Wigan just like missing out on seeing certain footballers or band.. Many people have been fed great stories of the past and can feel they have missed out on what sounds like fantastic times... It can dominate your very existense.. Or you can just embrace certain things from history that you see as positive but live in the now... It serves no possitive purpose maybe, to hang on to dreams/ that will never be real but human nature is a strange beast, we all take comfort from different places... ,
  8. I know the mod revial late 70s early 80s brought myself and many others onto the scene, did the influx of the mod revival and the mods attending wigan have an impact on the soul crowd and music played at the time.. I have mates who said the new mod crowd were not made welcome by many?? was there ever a scooter scene at Wigan????
  9. I would like to see a book on the history of this subject but guess it would never be so for legal reasons and could open the biggest can of worms.. What was the first bootlegged soul record??? whats the record ammount a known boot as fetched via ebay or through dealers...
  10. Cheers mate A topic of great interest to me, the roots of the scene and onto commercialisation of the Wigan era.. Certain publications give us a mixed message as they all have their own spin on the subject i guess.. I know we have plenty older members on here who started before Wigan, would be good to get their take on this.... Was the This England doc and the film crew in the casino really such a watershed, did that bring the " tourists "and kill the underground feel, or was it gonna head that way, with or without the Granada Tv insight...
  11. This is a question for those that were there at the time mate, i like you came onto the scene early 80s... Maybe the quote is reference to the huge impact on popular culture with Wigan, a case of an undeground scene going public and losing its true soul... Maybe not a reference about all the music played at Wigan but losing its " cool " as the masses headed towards Wigan ?
  12. Was reading another thread and picked up a quote from Campagnolo " Soul died when Wigan opened " Of interest to me as some folk have Wigan as the birthplace of this scene, while others go back to Wheel etc, was there a big backlash among the wheel brigade and that era to the Wigan years??? or was it a hardcore with most drifting in to the Wigan scene as some natural progression... I know of quite a few older friends who did the Wheel days, seemed to drift out of the scene during the nothern soul boom years of Wigan and come back onto the scene from the mid 80s onwards.. We hear about all the teenage thing and Wigan, but was there a certain ammount of older folk there too 20/30s?????????? or was it a total teenage northen soul revolution with the older crowd leaving the scene or running an alternate scene at the same time.. So with the quote "soul died when Wigan opened" does that mean soul died for good, was the start of Wigan the end for some with regards to the scene??
  13. Sounds about right to me.. Seen it go for anything from £26 to £75 in the past...
  14. Worst part ???? i think the giving and sharing of tunes via cd as been a great way of getting the message out there over the last few years, its taken over from tapes ( still my chosen format )... The legal side of it does not seem to be a question with most as the giveaway is just about everywhere. Not sure who or what could police this.... they sell cd burners/ vinyl to cd record players etc etc in high street shops... What do they think we are doing with them... We give copies of cds away on wedding days also Was looking to do one for my funeral too ( not for a good while fingers crossed ), could i be brought to book from beyond the grave????? Always a topic of interest... Reminds me of the scetch on Fools and Horses when Rodney dates a copper and wants to bring her back to the flat , Del aint happy
  15. Whats the score with giving away cds, the anniversary type done by many and also as simple promotional things to people on the door etc... Is it a legal issue if no payment takes place.. So much chit chat with regards to bootlegging, its been there on this scene for so long, not sure whats legal and whats iffy with many records/ cds/ dvds/ video.... Maybe a bit like the market places, so much iffy stuff around its classed as normal now and anything goes...
  16. She was Pete and a good actress also i thought... She did put in a good performance.
  17. At long last i get to see the film..... Not as easy to be objective as some maybe with my connection to another project in the past ( Function at the Junction ) but was looking forward to seeing this depite a lot of very mixed feedback from mates who took part in soulboy or got to see it on the big screen... The plot line /script was without doubt weak, the final showdown was like putting my hand in a barrle of tits but i still come out sucking my thumb... Use of too much original Wigan footage really does give me that feeling of a cup half full, it felt to me like a cop out, needing to prop up the dance scenes that lacked the va va voom that would could have made all the difference.... I have got to hear ideas from a script for a soul film that had the final showdown as a "Warriors" meets Saturday Night fever, a big climax that aimed to be the cherry on the cake and send the punters out on such a high that they would have been seeking the nearest Northern soul event with the adrenaline rushing through the body... I have been waiting for 9 years for a film about what is to me is the greatest show on earth, not a 3rd rate circus thats short on quality acts and fails to give value for money.. Other bootlegged scenes from Function like the dj blowing dust off the records, a cheap shot will scream out to many after seeing both films.. 3 of us ( all on the soul scene ) watched it hoping for a good film to drive home the real passion that makes people turn the passion for soul into the life long quest... Where was the true passion, that feeling of walking on the moon for a few minutes while you took to the floor to music sent from the gods, they did try and get this point over but came up short.. All 3 of us have seen it, have no burning desire to watch it again, it would be like putting a record on the deck while already knowing its not gonna be a tune that takes you to that special place, why bother...Maybe it could be that record when first bought, it did not hit the spot but grew with time after several plays, not sure that could happen with this Lots of reviews, many from friends and people i know, all posted their own take on this cinematic experience, some were well in favour and had a good experience, others got a cold cup of coffee... Glad many enjoyed the film while others found it like pulling your teeth with pliers.... Its art and beauty is in the eye of the beholder... ... Its all our my own take on this, others will see it another way for sure.. More feedback the better in gaging reactions from this movie.... The next soul film will be out in 2011, comparisons are gonna be drawn without a doubt, could the next film capture all that was lacking in SoulBoy?? or could this film stand up strong against all other attemps to bring this thing we call Northern soul to big screen and capture the magic... Time will tell... I score this 4.5 the soundtrack had me tapping my feet and thinking of the times i have had on the dancefloor in the past to all them tunes, a good feeling of belonging to something we thought so pure.. It huffed and puffed but would never be able to blow my house down, it just removed a couple of tiles off the roof.... The use of old Wigan footage felt ike a cheap shot, a cop out to try and add some spice to a weak mixture.... The dj blowing the dust off the vinyl was a bootlegged copy from the Function at the Junction, lots of other scenes had me thinking " where have i seen this before" Reviews.... Keep them coming.....

When i first started selling on ebay i got a great buzz when the watches started to appear, a real buzz.. The buzz soon died down when my items started to go through unsold or minimum price.... Leaves you feeling quite deflated....

  25. How many times do you get moist when you think all them folk are wanting what you have got for sale, at first i thought, lets just sit back and watch the bidding war start, "I'm in the money, I'm in the money".. Then.. pow! .. fu"k all... It can be the same with romance sometimes... You get a few having a look but you still end up home alone with a sock or the rabbit from under the bed
