  1. The tune works well when i hear it out loud oh yes..
  2. We all have our guilty pleasures and tunes that did it for us i guess, well most of us... The topic was/ is about the Wigans Ovation version, it just hit my ears today and nearly had me throwing something at my mrs to click the off button, not much gets me like that.. Yes a sound that gets worse with the passing of time for me... Got the answer i was looking for... topic closed..

  4. Wigans Ovation, makes me shudder just to write it.. The merits between the 2 versions????
  5. Just having breakfast and the wife clicks on a link for that tune " Skiing in the snow", aint heard it for many a moon and by god it made me feel ill... How much daylight did this get, very brief i hope..... Did this really take off??? did it fill the dancefloor.. It really is that bad aint it, the kind of tune that would give any scene a bad bad name... There must be people on here who liked it and danced to it i guess.. Let us know your guilty secret And the big question, do any tunes like this get played out anyplace now??? I can't ever remember hearing this played out in all my years.. Peace.. Love but no pop.. xx

  7. never be suprised that some don't " get it".. If they all did it would take the gloss off for many folk...
  8. great topic that come around often... Gil Scott Heron lyrics and song but also sung by Esther Phillips.. Love both versions... The line " home is where the needle marks, try to heal my broken heart", the day i heard these lyrics for the first time have stuck with me always, it just ripped my guts out... Full lyrics below from a true poet, enjoy... Home Is Where The Hatred Is.... A junkie walking through the twilight I'm on my way home I left three days ago, but noone seems to know i'm gone Home is where the hatred is Home is filled with pain and it, might not be such a bad idea if i never, never went home again stand as far away from me as you can and ask me why hang on to your rosary beads close your eyes to watch me die you keep saying, kick it, quit it, kick it, quit it God, but did you ever try to turn your sick soul inside out so that the world, so that the world can watch you die home is where i live inside my white powder dreams home was once an empty vacuum that's filled now with my silent screams home is where the needle marks try to heal my broken heart and it might not be such a bad idea if i never, if i never went home again

  14. Another soul gone.. My fav track.. x
  15. Its soul music, real soul music for thinkers and people with inner feelings.... Not for some of the dead ears and " uptempo terrorists " Only joking It means different things to many folk and like so many other topics, one mans rice pudding is another mans dog shit... All eggs in one basket.. Its soul or nothing...
  16. Just 3, not easy at all, so many quality soul tracks that don't bust the bank... 3 spins of mine at Soul Or Nothing events in the past... All mid tempo and oozing soul in my book.. Maybe not tips for the top but quality soul indeed.. Take away.. The Tams... Still all these years later many folk aint looked on the flipside "Hey Girl Don't bother me" and found thIs wonderful gem.. We all have them b-sides still not flipped in our collections, who aint played this?? Lou Ragland... I can't take it ... Co- Co Cleveland records.... A record that ticks the boxes for me, play it loud... Darrow Fletcher.. " I think i'm gonna write a song ".. Congress records.... A tune of such beauty from the man that can do no wrong.. Darrow Fletcher.. " I think i'm gonna write a song " . Congress records..... A soul or nothing spin of the last few years that still aint really had its day...
  17. Marky Tee, Wiggy, All niter Andy etc etc.. Why mention Callum and the film???? he was talking about the radio show it looks like to me... Maybe read his post in full before jumping in...
  18. Good point mate... Mid 80s to mid 90s was a great time indeed... A great time to grow up on the scene and start to hear what i thought was real real soul music and not the poor diet of some of the northern i had been breast fed on.... mid 80s early 90s, a great time for the best underground scene in the world.. The best time for me... Thats for another topic i guess.... The films looking good but i know it will bring out more topics about Wigan, maybe i need a filter on my pc that will remove any reference to that word Wigan, its been cooked to f£cking death..
  19. ... I think you know the answer mate.. See you on Boxing day, gonna pop in and its your round....
  20. The same questions and insights as with the Soul Boy project, the difference being that most seem to have more confidence in the final outcome this time round, time will tell as ever.. So maybe hold fire, there is gonna be plenty of time to comment when the film comes out... This thing about what impact the film will have, who the fu£k knows, not you or i, some are saying little while others are saying its gonna start a soul tsunami ( what about that for the name of a night ), maybe some cheesy promoter will take that up .. Some are talking about these films having the impact of Quadrophenia proportions, very hard to make that call, its 2011 and not 1979, social conditions are so different... As Gareth says, for this film to be a hit you must involve a certain ammount of commercial ventures for it to " get out of the ghetto".. I am sure Elaine knows that a delicate balance will be required to make it a hit while keeping "its cool".... Now back on topic.. Pete Waterman and northern soul, its always the same lookbacks 30/40 years ago, footage of wigan/ talk of the wheel, bla bla bla bla.. Then when we do get Pete talking of a recent soul experience its the Wheel and gags about teeth and over 65s ( i quite liked that in a cheesy way ),,The BBC woman talking of once having a boyfreind into northern soul, thats the theme, once a long time ago.. But while we have films set in the mid 70s, Function at the Junction, Soul Boy and this new film then i guess the same stuff will be thrown out when the media give it press or airtime... Good luck with the film to all who have worked so hard on it..
  21. Hit nail on head Mark.... I will ask Elaine when i see her if Pete was trying out his gags in warm up ... Yes he got North, false teeth and miners into a sentence.... Gawd bless him... Did not hear whippetts, did he really say that, ha ha.. I
  22. It was all about Big Pete and his big mouth.. I bet he had been working on the teeth gag all week ..
  23. A freind looking for this... They aint too fussed if its an original, so i guess they mean a cheap copy will do.. As this been re-issued?? Drop us a message if you have one, will pass on the details..
  24. Its a set formula i guess to have the likes of PW on the show, good heavens, imagine a wheeling out a normal person onto the BBC couch, the viewers would run for the off button, they did allow Elaine the odd word but then back to Pete.. Thats the way the promo game goes and i should know from experience.. Mr Waterman and his comments about Jackie Wilson, no problem with that if its his true view, not one i share but we all have different ears i guess...
  25. yes indeed matt.. Thousands of cheap tunes and many with great flipsides too,ha ha, just the way i like it.. Not so good for record dealers i guess but good for the collecting of quality soul on a budget, the way many of us like or have to do it.. Thousands cheap and wonderful tunes that would stand up against any records... Pete said JJ Barnes " Please let me in " then flip it over, oooooh, a soul tune indeed hiding there, if you aint heard it and have the record then see what you think?? " i think i found a love " Just a point though, one persons cheap as chips means £15 or under, just a thought as some will list what they call a cheapie and to others thats quite a lot to pay... or more than they are used to paying.. We all have different levels i guess, depends on finances.. Many tunes listed here are stocking fillers, fill yer boots.... I will get a few titles up later...
