  1. I think more promoters are looking at giving fresh talent a go..Cleethorpes does this with the 3rd room upstairs and i get no greater pleasure than to get the likes of Brett,John May,Little Ann,Neil Gibson,Nick Hackett,Lisa Hurley,Little Richard and many more to play at the Ducie,i think its the way forward because big names don't have the same pulling power now because they play at so many venues and sometimes at two events in the same night...I would travel a long way to see certain djs but now you know you can catch them playing every week...Lets keep as fresh as we can with young and new blood playing at more venues, also more power to all the females out there who don't get enough plays(apart from in London)...Bring on the revolution or die a slow stale death...Its whats in the box and heart that counts for me and a lot of others...No disrespect to any djs who have done the business over many years but there are plenty of others who have the tunes and want to play..
  2. Thanks Pete,i will leave that alone...Are there a few boots of this knocking around..
  3. ow Just got an email from Pete Fowler about Eddie Parker on ebay..4052484342..Is it a real one,he dont think so...Any thoughts...

  5. Gareth X We have so much in common...Eddie Giles.."losing boy"..what a tune indeed..He sings that great line.."I'm like Ray Charles,i was born to lose,i'm a losing boy and i lost you...Pure class.... Female...Betty Lavette.."let me down easy"....That one tune took me away from stompers into deep soul....

  15. Latest report on Stevie Catos going ons down under Over in Oz for the Brisbane weekender and just on my way to the final day.. Great weekend so far with fantastic hosts.. A real feel of community with the different camps from Brisbane,Sydney,Adelaide,Melbourn and Perth...The music is oldies based in the main but some fine choices, its funny when you are in the right frame of mind and a little carefree that tunes you have heard a little too much sound ok..The djs are very experienced(most ex pats) and know how to work the crowd in front of them...Numbers around 250 with a few over from the uk..Hope to get some play lists later.. My highlight of the weekend was September Jones "im coming home" how good did that sound along side big stompers..I am one of the judges of the dancing comp later, god i hate them but its got a certain traditon and some people see this as one of the highlights of the weekend... The sun shines all the time and the bar stays open from early doors to 5.30 am, everyone really up for it..I am planning on going to Sydney next year and i think a few more from the uk will come with me.. The whole weekend costs 35 dollars{thats 14 quid in English),a soul event put on with no profit in mind.Big thanks to Hammy and all the other Brisbane soul club for staging a great event.. Got to go and have a cold one, more later if i dont get stuck in rounds with Mike Ritson...
  16. I take it you lot are saying a big fat no to mr weller on the soul covers...I will go and see him because i have a ticket bought for me,it could be the last time after watching him from the Jam right through to present day...He got out of the Jam because he thought the time was right, lets hope he knows when to call it a day this time... English Rose...And the rest of all mod cons..WILL ALWAYS SOUND GOOD TO ME...
  17. Soul Function..Film and documentary soundtrack..You can listen and view all the tracks on my website....Also have copies for sale.. have a look on...www.cooloff.net
  18. Away from uk at the moment..Gonna see mr Weller in a couple of weeks, can anyone tell me about is soul covers,good/bad and what a bout the new single...etc...
  19. RODGER BANKS..CARL WILLINGHAM..BUTCH...KEITH MONEY...that would do me fine at the last all-niter on Morecombe Pier..Free bar,sex and drugs..All the great people i have met over the last 20 0dd years....And its the night after Huddersfield Town have won the FA cup and Man United have just dropped down into the non league...The last 5 tunes....... Volumes..Aint gonna give you up... Guitar Ray..Gonna wreck my life Bobbie Smith...Walk on into my heart.. Four Tops..If i were a carpenter... 5 mins to go with Carl on the decks, he says" thats it folks the last all niter ever, one last tune..Imperial Cs..Somebody tell her..Good nght and god bless you all, here is the greatest record ever made and i dedicate this to little Stevie on his coming out party"... All i have to do is dream.... ps...Brett and Dave Rimmer find god and have soft drinks all night....
  20. Now there is a tune.."nothing worse than being alone"..I was just singing that tune to myself the other day, always love it but only have it on album..Can any of you lot out there put me onto the single(original of course)...
  21. Just met Dave the once at Randy's funeral and he had certain grace and compassion thats lacking in society...A deep soul indeed...
  22. I got goose bumps just thinking about Gwen Mcrae..lead me on.first on my play list this weekend for sure..And that version by bobby bland is a track i only heard for the first time this year, its as near perfection as it gets for me...Xover is a different thing to many folk..I hear something called Xover played in rae 60s rooms/modern rooms and even at funk nights... The ones for me are Belita Woods..Magic Corner...George E Smith..Don't find me guilty...Dee Dee Sharp..The bottle or me.. Do these count in the cross over section..3 quality records that don't seem to fit into any one camp.. If you want you're cross over then see Mr Johnny Trout and Alison..i think they have it spot on,its tunes like these that keep the scene fresh for me,tunes to make you think and not always to dance to..
  23. After all its about having fun and good times aint it...My freind told me about a certain rare soul? dj sitting on the stage at the 100 club and saying "look at these folk on that dancefloor,i can't bring my mates down here, its not cool"..If he thinks the 100 club aint cool then its time for me to hang up my dancing shoes..We all know some glum people on this scene, why do they come out just to have a moan about everything..Keep smiling,it don't cost anything...
  24. wedding tune.."this could be a night to remember" take her socks off real slow and tell her she looks great in a soft light..I am an old romantic...See you on Sat mate ..I am there if you need a wedding dj...
  25. One thing on you're mind Hazel..See you soon...
