  1. How long do you think you would keep going to soul nights.....Who is the oldest geezer/women on the scene at the moment...I saw a thing about the Midlands soul scene on BBC and this guy said "they will have to put wheel chair ramps at soul nights because we aint gonna stop".Could be a problem at the 100 club, will Kenny take cash at the backdoor for all the four wheel soulie crowd..Don't mean to offend anyone out there....We have to be able to laugh at ourselves sometimes...
  2. More great tracks Mr Wiggles and what a album cover,i am gonna use it for my next poster/flyer...I sat back the other day and gave the whole album a listen for the first time ever, fantastic indeed..I am gonna play them tunes top death in clubs over the coming months...Cheers wiggles, fancy a tape swap??i love to hear what others hold close to there hearts...If so then send me a message...
  3. Its got to be Richie Havens "i cant make it anymore"..Got this for my 40th birthday after chasing a copy for a few years, first heard it at the Ritz about 5 years ago spun by Neil Rushton i think, the floor was cleared but everyone just stood there listening...I asked him to play it when i saw him at the Jazz cafe 2 years ago,he said he aint done that number for over 30 years,he looked me in the eye and then sang it,one of those moments in life..I do love the Spyder Turner version also but Mr Havens makes me close my eyes and think of the first time i heard it...Nice topic this one because we all have that special tune for many different reasons....
  4. I think it got a play at the wigan night at new century a few months back..I remember that tune from way back with all them weeeeeeeeee ooooooohs...Happy new year my old mucker...
  5. I was playing another Marvin track at the weekend called Seek and you will find,it was a winner with the crowd, also Bitter pill to swallow off the same album, are they album only tracks...Let me know mr Trout/Chalky/Pete etc...
  6. I will have to dig out the photos,i took a full film at the last Parr Hall with a lot of the crowd from the stage...What a place..All those rides back to Yorkshire on the scooter in winter...I met a girl there who changed my life for ever...I will dig out the photos and lets see what we find..I know there is one of Martin the Mod in some really bad white slip on shoes i think, also Baldy,Mike Phoenix,Shaun,Dave and the Wrexham/Mold crew and lots lots more..It was a great time for us all and took us away from just stompers to new 60s and beat ballads...Big tune at Warrington was "Lady in red" and Mr Misery, don't know if i have heard them since...Warrington for me was hearing Bobby Cline and Freddie Houston for the first time, changed my ears for life..Edwin star live at Warrington, kissed my girlfreind at the front of the stage and she talked about it for about a month..Sleeping in the Hallway next to the record bar in the days before Red Bull(ha ha)..All the crew that came with me are no more on the scene but Little Stevie says "till death us do part"...I aint much good at working the pc,someone can put up the photos then let me know,i can post them to you, also photos from Bradford Queens Hall if anybody wants to see them...
  7. I think this topic is on here from a while ago...I and a few others can´'t stand live stuff at all-niters,like you said it breaks up the flow...I have gone for a walk most of the time while they were on but lots of others really like to see live stuff and meet them etc....Do the live stuff bring enough extra people through the door to make a profit for promoters....I think the live stuff works better at big revival nights and weekenders...
  8. Gonna try and get over in Feb to see olof and the boys...Beers on you lot for sure...
  9. Give and take...I have heard that you only take??any truth in that...
  10. Jerry Butler On my play list the last few weeks....Great 70s mooover..
  11. Sorry Mark,it was a joke about an encounter i had in Berlin last year and not about the well known dj...I will never do stand up over there...
  12. Yes its on Soul-function and it is legit..
  13. You don't need a soul nite in Berlin to see something Butch!...I think a mix of culture and soul go well together...Thinking about pies and bingo at the Ducie...
  14. So you arrive at last, you little Pixie...And what an intro..Talk from the heart and you will win many a freind on here...
  15. Hi Paul I have freinds putting on events in Sweden,Spain,Italy,Germany...Let me know all you're dates and i can send you contact info...etc.. Lets see how long you're good lady will put up with a soul gypsy...Speak soon..

  17. I hear that you once had a naked Yorkshire man in the bed,any truth in that and was he up to scratch....
  18. Alan just text me,can you phone him and ask him to call me please,i wanna go and try out my new dress that i got for xmas...Meeting Brett at the bar, where else...Call me now...

  20. Fine thanks, just good freinds there and thats what counts...We all need good folk around you when you aint feeling at you're best..Hope to see you soon.. steve x
  21. I wanna go to Sherridans but i'm playing in Manchester,i could do with a lift about 4am but i don't think it will happen...If any crazy folk out there passing through Manchester on the way to Sherridans in the wee hours then send me a mail...If you don't make it then come to the mint lounge...Mint girls dancing in next to nothing, live comedy and soul tunes a go go...
  22. I think the trains run to about 8 or 9pm..Lots of folk from Greater Manchester will be there mate for a lift back...Is this the Dingle town soul tour...Take care..
  23. Soulvation...For cash only i think....I could not sell anything that i did not think was of decent quality but others don't care...You sad greedy bastards..."Money money money,is the root of all evil"...
  24. High points... Met some real nice people on my travels to soul nights...Great crowd in Australia for the weekender, they made me feel so welcome... Dublin all-dayer...Over on the ferry with a good crowd straight after New Century all-niter..I just love that crowd over there and its great to see a much younger crowd who really love the scene...Kissed Carl Willingham a few times(that must be his low point)... Ongoing contact with the Sweden soul boys and good to see them over here a few times..Also good contact with soulies in Italy,Spain etc...European crowd are much younger and new blood needed over here.... New tunes to my ears with the crossover scene... Soul-source...Met some good folk on here..Brett..Soulville,Richie,Shane,John May,Stamford,Barry Vardie and many more..Really nice people who talk with affection about the scene and the music.. Low points...Far too many soul nights now and lots of politics with every man and his dog pitching nights against each other..Crowds don't seem to travel as much because they have options closer to home... Wigan wigan..That name is still being talked about and used by some to put on commercial nights and just try and cash in...We never here as much said about Stafford and all the quality from there.....Some new blood come onto the scene with this Wigan stomper thing in there heads and then find it hard to adapt to all the other tunes being spun around the country... All the talk this year is about the price of a record and not its quality...Don't give a flying fu"k about prices...Many djs are playing tunes for there price and not there quality,i think more of a dj who can still find great records on the cheap and spin them.. Happy new year to all the real people, you know who you are... steve...
  25. Yes they can co-exist in the same room for a lot of us..60s RnB/Newies/crossover/quality oldies/modern...If you you break it down into too many fractions then we can all go out to the same place and have a good time....Whats the alternative??me and my mates all attend seperate nights every weekend because they are playing some tunes we don't like....If i get 60/70 % of the tunes to my liking then i think i have had a decent night...All them out there chasing the ultimate all-niter will never be happy...
