  5. Interesting documentary on BBC 4 Storyville Vinyl Nation, available via the iplayer until Monday. Looks at the making of vinyl, not much soul but a good insight in how records are made, costs and its rise in popularity again etc also Austin record fair covered. Watched it last night but apparently first broadcast last month. https://www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer/episode/p0fk55zz/storyville-vinyl-nation

  12. I recently purchased a 45 from Switzerland, charged GB VAT 8.18 swiss francs (£6.45) on top of the price of the record and postage. The dispatch note from the seller on the package cover said all fees had been paid, and I did not have any extra costs (import duties).

  21. With the lockdown, I am listening to quite a lot of soul on the radio. Heard a track on the Marc Collins show on Solar Radio at the weekend Sam Dees -Funny, said it was unreleased dated from around 1971 recorded when at Chess. The recording was from an acetate, the original version apparently is short just over 2.30, but the version played had been extended. Marc hinted that it would make a great release on a 7 inch and I would agree, what do others think? The show is on Mixcloud , the track is played after Starguard Which Way is Up around 1 hour 8 Minutes -
  22. I usually support Record Store Day, this year's event is on the 18th April, soul releases include the following: Timeless Legend Synchronized LP on Expansion. Willie Tee Teasing you Again (45 single on Gatur). Robert Parker I caught you in a lie (45 on Nola). Roy Redmond Ain't That Terrible (45 on Harlem Shuffle). Rare Pleasure Let Me Down Easy (45 on South Street Disco). Johnnuy Pate Shaft in Africa 2 x 45 on Dynamite Cuts. Appears to be mainly resissues, personally I would rather see new releases/unreleased material or previously download only released on vinyl for the day, any views?
  23. Like to see the Roland Johnson on a 45 thanks for posting. Heard these three recently on Solar Radio and thought they sounded good. Rita Ray - How Much Can A Small Heart Take - https://ritaray.bandcamp.com/track/how-much-can-a-small-heart-take Warren Cambell Its gonna be allright - Michelle David and the Gospel Sessions Yes I am -
  24. This is a good thread and bugging the old grey cells. I seem to recall an article in Black Echoes regarding the first disco 12 inch coming out, this was sometime in 1976, the title of the 12 Inch was something like Get Off Your A** and dance. There is Get off your Aahh and Dance by Foxy but I didnt think that was the group. The first 12 inch I bought was from Jumbo Records in Leeds - Undisputed Truth You + Me = Love the same year, for between 70 and 90 pence. Still got it today.
  25. Sad news indeed R.I.P Les
