  1. Suppose it often depends on where you come from and what venues you attend, certainly the Districts is a standard at venues around the Manchester area, and on the nighter scene, but less commonly heard around the east Midlands for example, However Bazza noticed you were at the Brit Nottingham saturday night, 100 % sure Mick H has a copy of the Districts, ask him next time, i'm sure he'll play it for you.

  6. Must admit not too impressed by it myself, sounds like one of those palatable wishy washy tracks that seem to be popular at soul nights nowadays.
  7. The Dramatics ...All because of you...sport, has a similar backing to Determination also, written by Andre Williams too I think.

  20. Baggy trousers and patches are very much part of the oldies scene, Wigan, Torch, stompers and all that. Wouldn't expect to see wide tousers at a crossover night or rare soul event. Just goes to show what a divided scene we have nowadays, some may argue its a bad thing some might say it's good thing, each unto their own opinion. Don't really see to many changes to the format of soul nights, some like all-nighters, some like weekenders , most things have been tried. although fresh venues, new names on the decks, new sounds are the life blood of the scene, if things stand still for too long it gets boring. When someone puts on a new venue, people will go along to check it out, if they like it they'll come back, if they don't they won't, punters vote with their feet. The scene needs to keep moving forward, by all means lets keep some traditions alive but not at the expense of keeping the scene exciting and new. Phew ! it's late .........
  21. I remember Guy playing this on BBC radio Derby back in the 80's on a tuesday evening, he used to do an half hour spot with Terry Christian who later went on to pesent the Word on channel 4. Guy used to play all his latest discoveries, some of my all time fav tracks I first heard on that show......I'd never part with my copy of Rufus Wonder.
  22. I remember being envited to a wedding at the counrty club which was on the same night as one of the nighters. When all the wedding guests left at the end of the night I snook into the toilet until I heard Northern being played then came out again, free entry
  23. Had many special nights at the country club, the soul nights were incredible, and everyone was always so friendly, no bad vibes at all. I did a spot at one of Sam's nighters, different music policy bit still vey enjoyable. the venue was just made for soul nights / nighters. I made an enquiry at the last all nighter about ripping some of the dancefloor up as a momento but wasn't allowed
  24. Are you sure Sad Girl is really the song for you Craig.......?
  25. Irrelevant debate I feel, weather it's 60,s or modern, its still soul music, albeit very different in sound and production, i personally try to appreciate all, but in prefference i'm a 60's dinosaur........
