  1. Thinx Butch had one in his sales box recently £40, Seen one on a list for £40 also. It is a good record, and has a lot of respect amongst collectors. Don't think it's quite got what it takes to go massive though. Perheps someone may prove me wrong.
  2. Totally agree, Utter Garbage......... Someone somewhere must have thought it was a good record, that's why It first got played. I would love to hear from someone who thinks it's a good record to explain why. Another annoying thing about the record, is that once you've heard it, it sticks in your head, and you can't stop singing it. How about Jnr.Walker instrumentals, for be annoying.
  3. The Futures .... Party time man, Dean Barlow... Third Window, Bobby Day ...Pretty little girl, Larry Trider ... Carbon Copy. Amazingly all these records have been big around the East Midlands........... Enough said ! Got to add that awful record by the Brothers on R.C.A to the list. Had a Superb Night at Sheridens on Saturday Night.......Quality Music !
  4. You Both need to get ot more !
  5. Yes, that's right it did come out on a compilation ( speciality records U.K ) lp6602. It also has Bobby Williams ..Tell it to my face, another great track. "Has it happened to you yet " did come out on Lupine in 7" format, however is very rare. Would imagine about £200 mark at guess.
  6. Oh Yes, I nearly forgot, It's Sheridens Lifeline all-nighter tomorrow. Be there or be a Goal post !!!!!!!
  7. O.k so not agreat record, however her vocal performance is pretty good !. Thinx the backing singers were having a laugh ......... And as for Dean Barlow......Just don't get me started.
  8. Can't wait for Sheridens next week ( April 17th ). Last one was Awesome !. And yes of course the Union Club, Notts. Next one May 7th. Oh yes forgot, thinx I'm on then. Plug.....
  9. Seems to me that the majority of soul nights that try to play rare soul always struggle. The place to hear the good stuff seems to be all-nighters. Noticed the reference to Wilton, 100 club, Lifeline, all all-nighters. Soul nights seem mainly for the mainstream side of the music. Mainstream Northern nights always do better cause they attract the multitudes. Most committed soulies prefer the all-nighter scene, that is the main reason the music is better, and more adventurous.
  10. A Special thanks to all the D.js who played some awesome records in the Gresham suite, on Good Friday. Roger Banks, Ginger Taylor, Rob Thomas, Arthur Fenn, and the gang. Couldnt beleive people were dancing to stuff like Moody Woman, in the main room, When some of the best D.Js in the country were on the decks in the same building. Great stuff guys thanks again.... John&Dian

    Wanted

Try Ebay.com for the Sandra Wright Track. It came out on her Wounded Woman L.P. and is commonly on ebay......goes for about $40.
  13. Nice selection Mr.Heaney, Rufus Wonder is Awesome, included it in my list a few days ago. I picked a copy up a bout a month ago, and havn't stopped playing it since. I also played it at the rhyl weekender, a couple of weeks ago. Much appreciated by the knowledgeable guests who were there.
  14. Nothing better than a captive ordiance is there..... Our lad is six and he still get's a blasting of soul in the evenings. He's picked up on a few soul tracks from watching, his disney video's. One of his current fav's is The Capitols... cool jerk. which he heard on home alone 2, or was it 3. He was amazed when I played it to him.
  15. How would it be possible to tell weather its authentic or not ?.
  16. Excellent Brian, Maybe that final comment could be put on the bottom of fly sheets. Top and bottom, that is the crux of the problem with the soul scene. I think it was Dave Rimmer who once wrote that every record at one time was a newie, every record you ever heard, you once heard for the first time. I think some of us have still held on to that thirst for listening to new sounds. Some us of us though seem to have lost it. Also let us not forget that there are two words in Northern Soul, unfortunatly, that little last word is often forgotten.

  18. Some great comments have been posted on this topic, and many of them I feel should be taken on board. And because my good lady wife started the topic off, I feel I ought to add my sixpence worth. Firstly, one observation I've noted recently, is the amount of " oldies " venue's that have sprung up, run by people who don't seem to have been on the scene for five minutes. O.K so someone may ask me to name names, and point fingers, but I ain't going to get into that. Unfortunatly, lack of knowledge, and the readiness to to take a trip back down memory lane, usually means out come the Anthems, the Classics, Northern top 500 what ever we want to call em. Secondly, D.J's are employed to spin the classics, who once again don't seem to have been on the scene for any time at all, a box full of pressings, the odd current spin ( Futures, Brothers, etc. ), and suddenly your a D.J. Throw in the fact that over the last few years people have joined the scene, who wouldn't know a good Soul record if one punched them in the nose, and what have you got ....your monthly local oldies night. Watery, tepid, Northern Soul. For me Northern Soul, always will be a Rare soul music scene, A D.J's reputation is earned by playing imaginative, progressive rare soul music. A Promoters Reputation, will only be earned by putting on knowledgeable, seasoned D.j's, with a good feel for the music. And wouldn't it be wonderful if everytime a record got played that wasn't commonly known, punters would rush to the decks to find out what it was, this is the only way people will develop knowledge. Unfortunatly , Many people who attend venues would rather sit around and moan, rather than get involved. I do honestly believe, that what will happen eventually, is what happened, in the early eighties. There will be a big exodus away from the scene. This will then leave the scene in the hands of the real Soulies, just like what happened before. And what did we get Stafford, Quality Northern Soul, played by Imaginative D.J's, to progresive minded Soulies. Let's hope anyway. All I'm asking is for those people who are new to the scene, or have returned after years away, try and find out what's new, rather than listening to Anthems. D.J's love it when people show interest in what they are playing. Take a pencil and paper with you, write down a few tunes that you've heard, ask the D.J's to play them, you'll be getting involved, and it's alot of fun. And don't give the promoters an easy ride, if you feel your not getting your monies worth let em know about it. What we want is quality Northern soul music, don't be affraid to ask for it !.
  19. I've got to join in here say that I'm in total agreement with everyone about Barbara Mercer...So Real, and Juanita Williams ...Baby Boy. Detroit strikes again, wonderful stuff. Vinyl i'm wearing out at the moment : Carl Henderson .... Everybody's talking ....Omen Players .....Why did I lie ....minit Dee Dee Sharp.....The Night ....Cameo Kathy & the calenders ..... Please don't go ...Port Rufus Wonder ......Under the moon ...Lendo
  20. Come on now, let's start a movement, right here, right now. To all D.J's who are going to be spinning records up and down the country this weekend, Please, pleeease, don't play THE FUTURES.. PARTY TIME MAN !. This record should never have been spun on the soul scene in the first place. So come on D.J's, lets put a stop to it right now, let's put it in the History books. Maybe we could also include THE BROTHERS on RCA, in that as well. NO MORE FUTURES, NO MORE FUTURES, NO MORE FUTURES, NO MORE FUTURES, NO MORE FUTURES, NO MORE FUTURES,NO MORE FUTURES, NO MORE FUTURES, NO MORE FUTURES,NO MORE FUTURES, NO MORE FUTURES, NO MORE FUTURES,NO MORE FUTURES, NO MORE FUTURES, NO MORE FUTURES,NO MORE FUTURES, NO MORE FUTURES, NO MORE FUTURES,NO MORE FUTURES, NO MORE FUTURES, NO MORE FUTURES,NO MORE FUTURES, NO MORE FUTURES, NO MORE FUTURES,NO MORE FUTURES, NO MORE FUTURES, NO MORE FUTURES,NO MORE FUTURES, NO MORE FUTURES, NO MORE FUTURES,NO MORE FUTURES, NO MORE FUTURES, NO MORE FUTURES,NO MORE FUTURES, NO MORE FUTURES, NO MORE FUTURES,
  21. Just got off the phone to John Mills, let him know what an awsome weekend we had. And to be honest Butch not being there, for me didn't make the slightest difference, and should'nt distract from what was an enjoyable event. Many thanks to all the promoters involved, and the staff at the Hotel, plus not forgeting the D.J's, for doing a great job. We arrived Friday tea time about 5pm, and within 15 minutes they let me loose on the Decks in the lounge, it was great, like being at home in my own living room. playing all my fav' tunes, to some of the soul scenes most knowledgeable. They also let me have another spot on Saturday....Pure soul heaven. There was so many quality soul records played it's very difficult to single any particular one's out. I do remember Saturday night that there was loads off Detroit classics played, ...right up my street. Especially remember E J & the Echoes ... I'll Never Forget. Can't remember last time I heard that played anywhere. We'll be back next year, and if you didn't make it this year, pencil next years date on your calender now.......April 1st to April 3rd. john.may101@ntlworld.com
  22. Thanks for putting right there Janine, like I said "if my memory serves me right" which it didn't......... O.k so I've made a couple of phone calls on this and i am reliably informed that #009 Does not exist, for some reason the number was skipped. Come on then some one tell me i'm wrong (lol)
  23. Used to have a listing with them on, but can't find it now, however if my memory serves me well it was The 3 degrees ... Are you satisfied.
  24. Many thanks for your help, i've phoned both Pat Brady, and John Manship tonight. Unfortunatly they currently havn't got the records. But a big thank you anyway.
