  1. In agreement there pete, good use of the mic' i would say is important, however, a recent topic on here about use of the mic' produced alot of heated debate, some members didn't seem to think it mattered. Butch for example uses the mic to a minimum, and let's his records speak for themselves. Over the last six month's here are a list of D.J's i've heard who really put good sets together Cliff Steele, Nidge Mayfield, Andy Whitmore, Lenny Dopson, Dave Abbott, Rob Messer, Cookie, Rich Buckley, Brett Franklin, Jamie ( soulsville ) None of these I would call top top D.J's although Cliff is always very good, and I would travel to venue's if I saw these D.J's names on flyers. So maybe a reputation is built on Quality or is that just what I personally look for.
  2. Thanks for adding that Hippo, I was just going to add that myself. Where do you draw the line as to who is a big name, and who isn't. Also does the reputation depend on ability as a D.J or quality of music played ?. I must say without naming names and ruffling feathers there are a few so called big names who just don't do it for me, whereas there are a number of what I would call "B" list D.J's who I feel consistantly play awesome spot's.
  3. Been thinking about doing this topic for a while. There seems to be a beleif on the Northern Scene that putting a big name D.J on the Flyer attracts the crowds. O.K so Butch is god and can always put numbers on the door, but can the same also be said for other so called big names ?.
  4. O.K then guy's who's off to Luton saturday..........
  5. One regret I do have is that my wife don't drive so I have to drive everywhere which of course means I can't really drink, so I've had to perfect the art of acting pissed when other pissed soulies come and speak to me, can be quite funny at times. Suppose in some ways It's not a bad thing. Because i enjoy travelling around alot, i've become an expert on motorway service areas, think I know them all on the M1, as most weekends i'm either going up or down it. I do sometimes bump into other soulies at services on there way to nighters
  6. It's like i sad the other day Brett, It's silly season.....sanity won't return until after new year....and then again maybe it won't To me it sounds like a £25 record !, if i was going to fork out that kind of money, it would have to be for something of much higher quality...
  7. after I've payed my increasingly over inflated admission fee to a venue, I'm not gonna do no cleaning up !............with respect
  8. The scene definatly runs my life, and long may it continue......... My Son (7) likes the music too, and my wife is also mad for it ( soul that is ).
  9. Think this is a a bit of Scam, ebay say they are clamping down on this, however still keeps happening, just like extra paypal charges..

  12. NYE 2000, I was in bed for 10.30, damm fireworks at midnight woke me up, inconsiderate people............
  13. I agree we need a choice, point i was making is why do we seem to have so many venues all competing against each other over the xmas period, when traditionally attendances are always poor.....for sure they will be a few venue's that will be well attended, however the vast majority will struggle, IMO it just doesn't add up, it smacks of putting on an event for the sake of then fingers crossed someone might turn up....Crazy
  14. Maybe there's an invention waiting to happen, Shoe's that have cavities in the soles that talc can be put into, small hole's in the sole allow the talc to fall through, thus no need to pour it on the floor....... I dare someone to invent them. JM
  15. Very good point Steve, even with my clubbed foot I love to tread the boards........quality soul music only of course.
  16. Trevski you kill me , Good to here from you also Stevie, I'll e.mail you mate.... JM
  17. Maybe its not really talc, but some mind altering drug, to make us believe that the music that is being played is actually quality soul music, when really it isn't...
  18. Having just checked the events page for the " festive " period, plus taking into account the large amount of flyers that I saw refering to xmas events left on tables at ponds forge last night, it seems that we are going into xmas overkill mode. I remember last xmas the few venues that I did venture out to were pretty dead, In fact I can't think of an event in recent years that i've been to that has been well attended over the xmas period. Yet every year there seems to be huge amount of venues all competing for punters over those few day's between boxing day and new year. So why so many venues, taking into account that traditionally attendances are low over the xmas period, why do promoters seem to feel the need to put these extra events on ? JM
  19. Power lifters arses & babys hands ?. My lovely wife, loves to dance, she's never off the floor, talc everywhere, think all this is much a do about nothing IMO......
  20. Come on guy's let's me nice to Stoke, I have to travel through there on my way to the M6, when i'm travelling north to Manchester. Keele's not bad, and Bidds is very good. JM
