  1. Driving home from Birmingham a couple of weeks ago, @ about 11:30 pm, Radio 1 was playing some ska / rocksteady stuff, sounded great in the car, Jimmy Cliff, Desmond Decker........did you hear it pete?

  4. Great memories of that venue, did my apprenticeship there, Gary Rushbrooke, John Poole, Soul Sam, Clive Jones ( what ever happened to him). I used to take a tape recorder along with me, still got some old tapes even today, great tunes, then the long walk to the railway station for the train home to Derby, I remember buying Toni basil ..Breakaway £25, Jimmy McFarland..Lonely lover..£8 !, Kelly St.Claire...Hear that beat..£20, Joannie Summers..Don't Pity me..£10. Wish I still had them.
  5. Amazing stuff, I resisted buying them for along while, which I now consider to be a slightly foolish decision, so many quality tracks. Think I will be actively picking them up from now on. Recent release......Dottie Pearson...Bring it over baby....#152 is one of the best tracks I've heard for ages
  6. I had 2, Don Ray ....Born a loser, & Yvonne vernee..just like you did me ( slightly fast ). Good quality sound. Seem to remember some guy from Leicester who used to advertise in " Black Echo's" that he could put most big sounds on EMI, Not sure of his name, think the quality of them was a bit "Shakey".

  18. Yes there are quiet a few, But I agree, Baby "justine"Washington is the best... Other versions off the top of my head are..... Sonji Clay on Songee Monticello's.......Forgot the label Aretha Franklin.....Columbia Great Version Think there are a few more, can't think right now.........

  22. Let's try and think of some soulful group tracks..... Most tracks by the Volumes are very soulful, Falcons, Magnetics, Fabulous Peps etc...
