  3. 2 up for offers, please PM any questions. Willie Hutch – Love runs out / The duck – Dunhill 4012 WD M- OFFERS To think, I was less than a year old when Willie penned these 2 tracks and along with the brilliant Gene Page and Lou Adler they brought these 2 quintessential Northern tracks together on one slab of plastic. We all know Hutch has provided us some very collectable tunes, but his involvement in the music industry surpassed his own recording career, for example being hauled out of bed in the dead of night by Motown’s Hal Davis to help compose a track that Berry Gordy didn’t like. By the deadline of 8am that morning the Jackson 5’s “I’ll be there” fronted by a 12 year old Michael Jackson was destined to become the biggest selling Motown single at the time. Gordy hired Hutch, who for over 20 years influenced some of the biggest names Hitsville had on the books. Let’s not forget the rest of the team, with Adler’s work at least being recognised by induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, with both he and Gene working with some of the most popular music acts and biggest labels across many genres over 3 decades in the business . I’ve been lucky enough to own the Black Stock copy and after selling that the only reason I’m letting this one go is I still have the Japanese RCA Victor tri-center complete with sleeve and lyric sheet. Lets not forget the beautiful French RCA release exists confirming this double siders demand across the US, Europe and Asia form the day it was pressed right up to the current. This East coast white demo vinyl copy is in fantastic mint minus condition. Labels are clean bar the 2 X’s on “Duck”. Minimum offer £1850. Sandi Sheldon – I’m gonna make you love me – Okeh 7277 WD NM OFFERS The pinnacle of Okeh soul output, crafted by the imperious Van McCoy. Sandi is Kendra Spotswood and on occasions Kenni Woods, recording for labels; Philips, Regina and Tuff, she was not only a member of the Pacettes but even more impressively the Vonettes on Cobblestone alongside Lilian Dorr and Barbara McGregor from the Dynells. This was Van McCoy’s first recording using the banner of Soul Sound Productions, released in March 1967 to leave an everlasting imprint on the UKs northern soul scene. Beautiful mint minus copy with clean labels, you won’t find many copies so clean you could shave with them, so no upgrade required. Same minimum offer as my last copy a couple of years ago £1600. I’ll let both offers run until 8pm Mon 30 Aug, unless I get an offer I can’t refuse in-between! Content with PayPal by friends or add 4% for your own assurance, or I can take bank transfers. Postage: £7.65 - Special Delivery (Fully insured up to £500) £8.65 – Special Delivery (Fully insured to £1000) £10.65 – Special Delivery (Fully Insured up to £2500) Overseas on request Cheers, Lee.
  4. The Motown 7s Box - Motown Sound – Tamla Motown Mint Reduced from £300 to £280 (All the details you need for this sought after first in the series box set is on the back of box image. Never been opened (STILL SEALED), so virgin ground when you spin these beauties, number 0338 / 2000 in the run) PayPal as friends or add 4% please, or I can send bank details. 5. Just the one for today. Sound file and additional images available if you want. PM and questions or to reserve. Everyday People – World full of people – Brownstone 5000 M- £900 Funky edged group Soul recorded in 75 for Bill Browns Hollywood based Brownstone label. This was reportedly released against the “advice” of the Mafia who were stamping out competition for their own record labels that no doubt fronted the rackets behind them. Whether it was something against Brown, one of his team or the threat of some excellent mid 70s music it’s not certain, but I’m guessing that mob rule and the proposition of a one-way trip to the bottom of the ocean in concrete slippers may have had some effect on local pressing plant staff and distributors adding to its obvious scarcity and lack of releases on the label! Brown was performing himself in 74, releasing “Bip bam” on the Accent label where he recorded with Soul Injection of “Stay off the moon” fame. Audibly and visually M- with a slight dish to it that plays through without any effect on play) PayPal as friends or add 4% please, or I can send bank details. Postage (Latest 2021 Prices for up to 250g): £8.65 – Special Delivery (Fully insured to £1000) Overseas on Request Cheers, Lee

  6. Here’s another tasty set of Northern tunes up for grabs, a bit of rarer, semi-knowns and oldies. Sound files and additional images available if you want. PM and questions or to reserve. David Coleman – Foolish heart / Drown my heart – Barry Ex £220 (Plays lovely, Label wear both sides) Moovers – One little dance / I love you baby – Brent 7065 WD M- £100 (Gaining interest, lovely lowrider double sider) Billy Butler – I’ll bet you – Brunswick 55347 YD M- £50 (Neat on yellow demo) Barbara Acklin – Just ain’t no love – Brunswick 55388 YD M- £20 SOLD (Duplicate, so underrated, cos its relatively cheap) Fred Hughes – Baby boy – Brunswick 755419 Ex £40 Calvin & Catamounts – I know my baby cares for me – Catamount 131 Ex £75 (Cool group soul) Meditations – It’s wrong to fight – Checker 1176 DJ Ex £75 (Single sided DJ copy with a couple of light pops on run out) Chris Calloway – You’re something else – Cub 9154 DJ Ex £60 (What a tune, floats along) Traits – Too good to be true – Garrison 3007 WD Ex £120 (Pounding male group dancer, beautiful surface and labels, edge lift that does not affect play) Anthony & Aqua Lads – I remember – Gold Bee 1650 WD Ex £350 (Outstanding track, sought after demo, edge lift that does not affect play) Elgins – Lost my love in the big city – Lummtone 112 Ex- £15 (Simple but effective beat ballad) Bobby Garrett – My little girl – Mirwood 5511 Ex £220 SOLD (Simple and as brilliant as it gets, monarch stamped original) Monzas – Instant love – Pacific 1002 M- £150 (Glorious and in prime condition) Millionaires – Never for me – Philips 40477 Ex £125 (Uplifting dancer) Beverly Ann – He’s coming home – RCA 9269 WD M- £100 SOLD (Classic) Fantastic Four – Ain’t love wonderful / The whole world is a stage – Ric Tic 122 WD M- £40 SOLD (2 overlooked Detroit tunes, easy to do with so many classics on the label, but here they are on demo too) Bobby Rush – The things that I used to do – Salem 1006 Ex £30 (Gritty soul, edge lift does not affect play) Betty Harris – Trouble with my lover – Sansu 480 Ex £65 (Awesome femme R&B, flips great too, on the rare pale blue promo) Harold Hopkins – Glamour girl – Scepter 12120 WD Vg £20 (Nice demo, has some marks, plays Vg+, closer to £50 if M-) Chuck Bridges – Don’t you make me cry - Scoop 04 Ex+ £350 (Doesn’t often show up, handwritten “DJ Copy” on label typical with most I’ve seen) Showmen –Take it baby / In paradise – Swan 4213 Ex+ £30 Fabulous Apollos – Some good in everything bad – Valtone 105 M- £75 PayPal as friends or add 4% please, or I can send bank details. 7. One very rare east coast groover up for grabs. Sound file from the 45, additional images available if you want. PM and questions or to reserve. Soul for Sale – Let me love you – Geronimo 868 M- £1500 Outstanding crossover that is clearly a one off for the group and probably the label, which I have learnt was discovered in North Carolina. From the off the casual but discerning horn intro sets the scene for this mellow crossover dancer that glides along. I’ve only ever seen reference or sales of this that I can count on one hand, rare to say the least, under the radar for most and destined for so much more with the right DJ behind it. Soul For Sale - Let me love you.mp3 PayPal as friends or add 4% please, or I can send bank details. Postage (Latest 2021 Prices for up to 250g): £10.65 – Special Delivery (Fully Insured up to £2500) Overseas on Request Cheers, Lee

  8. Here’s another tasty set of Northern tunes up for grabs, a bit of rarer, semi-knowns and oldies. Sound files and additional images available if you want. PM and questions or to reserve. Everyday People – World full of people – Brownstone 5000 M- £1000 (Funky edged group Soul recorded in 75 for Bill Browns Hollywood based Brownstone label. This was reportedly released against the “advice” of the Mafia who were stamping out competition for their own record labels that no doubt fronted the rackets behind them. Whether it was something against Brown, one of his team or the threat of some excellent mid 70s music it’s not certain, but I’m guessing that mob rule and the proposition of a one-way trip to the bottom of the ocean in concrete slippers may have had some affect on local pressing plant staff and distributors adding to its obvious scarcity and lack of releases on the label! Brown was performing himself in 74, releasing “Bip bam” on the Accent label where he recorded with Soul Injection of “Stay off the moon” fame. Audibly and visually M- with a slight dish to it that plays through without any effect on play) Ultimates – Girl I’ve been trying to tell you – Br-roma 101 Ex+ £500 SOLD (Formerly the Enchanted Five on CVS. They recorded this track in New York under arrangements that lacked any form of management control culminating in the artists staying in town for three or four days, completing a session of tracks, which appeared on their later album titled ”You’re my lady” and when that was done they upped sticks and left, never to be heard of again. A simple story likely to be true of many Northern groups? A beautiful example of a 70’s crossover dancer coupled with a smoozy mid-tempo sweet soul winner, and the only thing to report is a very mild edge lift and light ring wear, otherwise it’s a fantastic slab of vinyl) Rhetta Hughes – One in a million – Columbia 44073 WD M- £50 SOLD (Fabulous version of Maxine Brown’s track, reminds me of how Freda Payne made OC Smiths “On easy street” her own, which is what Rhetta’s done here. Lovely copy) Meditations – It’s wrong to fight – Checker 1176 DJ Ex £75 (Hopefully, I’m not barking up the wrong tree, but this Gospel group fronted by the Reverend James Cleveland is backed in part by Laura Lee and Della Reese no less. Single sided DJ copy with a couple of light pops on run out) Jimmy Conwell – To much – Gemini 1003 EX+ £175 SOLD (The usual sprinkling of Leonard Jewell-Smith, Hank (Sir) Graham Godoy Colbert on the credits for this one for another masterclass on the Gemini label. Light ring wear and what looks like 50¢ in blue biro on the label, wow a bargain even then!) Bobby Hill – To the bitter end / Tell me you love me – Lo Lo 2307 Promo Ex+ £550 SOLD (There’s some class acts on this Calla distributed label, but none more compelling than this extraordinary double sider, which sports an early Blackpool Mecca play in the “Bitter end” and as tastes changed the now very sought-after crossover flip “Tell me”. It always amazes me how some artists can switch effortlessly between gruff and ludicrously slick, and that girly intro is to die for on the flip. Light label wear but the important thing is they play like a treat at Ex+) Fred Martin Review – Take me back again / I know its going to happen – Ru-Jac 9170 M- £150 SOLD (One of Manship’s Minters, a beautiful ballad flipped with up-tempo dancer on this alluring green Baltimore imprint) The Motown 7s Box - Motown Sound – Tamla Motown 0338 / 2000 Sealed £300 (All the details you need for this sought after first in the series box set is on the back of box image. Never been opened, so virgin ground when you spin these beauties) PayPal as friends or add 4% please, or I can send bank details. 9. Hi Zanetti, youre welcome, just dont want what we do know to be forgotten, and in a roundabout way, recognise the artist, owners, writers, producers and promoters associated with this vast musical genre. Ta, Lee
  10. A cool stack of soul winners up for grabs today, many well established, couple of real rarities including one under the radar. Sound files and additional images available if you want. PM and questions or to reserve. Thelma Houston – Baby mine – Capitol 5767 WD Ex- £200 SOLD (Infectious dancer. Couple of light scuffs, no affect play, in fact plays great at Ex+, some label wear) Earl Wright – Thumb a ride – Capitol 5516 Ex+ £125 SOLD (Classic instrumental) Bobby Paris – I walked away – Capitol 5929 Promo M- £500 SOLD (Fabulous copy, and so atmospheric I’ll even chuck in the hairs standing up on the back of your neck for free!) Jean Battle – I’ve got to come in – Clintone 004 Ex+ £120 SOLD (Femme crossover gem from Cliff Moons Birmingham, Alabama label. Mild ring wear on label) James Bounty – Prove yourself a lady – Compass WD Ex+ £350 SOLD (Instantly recognisable intro on this 60’s pounder. ‘R’ (Rockaway, New Jersey) machine stamped original, sticker residue on flip label) Ritchie Adams – I can't escape from you – Congress 256 WD Ex £750 SOLD (Never been so popular, well sought after. Some label ageing, date stamp on flip but playback is M-) Moses Smith – Girl across the street – Dionn WD M- £350 SOLD (All time Philly classic on the more select WD. Date stamp on label) Soul for Sale – Let me love you – Geronimo 868 M- £1500 SOLD (I hate not being able to share some information about a 45 and its origins, but this one has me stumped. Outstanding crossover that is clearly a one off for the group and probably the label. From the off the casual but discerning horn intro sets the scene for this mellow crossover groover to float along on a sea of calmness where distress is an ocean away. I’ve only ever seen reference or sales of this that I can count on one hand, rare to say the least, under the radar for most and destined for so much more with the right DJ behind it) Soul For Sale - Let me love you.mp3 Jackie Edwards – I feel so bad – Island 3006 Ex+ £650 SOLD (Call me biased but this track holds so many memories for me, its immense and my absolute favourite. I do recollect sailing around the Caribbean in the late 80s naughtily blaring it out on marine VHF airwaves simply to allow anyone bobbing around out there to immerse themselves in its beauty. Thankfully it’s a sparesy, with only innocuous handwritten “Fantasia DJ Steve Frost” on label, and a very tiny tiny sticker “231” to call it 100% clean. Centre intact) Patti & Emblems – I’m gonna love you a long long time – Kapp Ex £500 SOLD (Awesome group out of Camden, New Jersey led by Patty Russell on the deeply reliable and soul filled Kapp label. Looks M- but i did detect static on run in, don’t think its cue burn, but if lined up on first bar it plays lovely thereafter) Fi-Dels - Try a little harder – Keymen 106 M- £300 SOLD (An anthem from this talented group formed in the US Marine Corps and who also brought us another Los Angles winner in “ I’m giving you notice baby” on the Dore label) Nat Hall - Why - Loop M- £2000 SOLD (The Gama half of Lilian Clairborne’s Gama / Loop pairing sports several obscure Northern tracks, Billy Clark, Richie Kay, a rare Doc & Interns also on the Now label, but less is known of the Loop half that intertwines with its sister labels numbering. What we can be sure of is, the stand out release from this Washington DC outfit is Nat Hall’s rarity, the psychedelically soulful “Why” with its piercing horns and guitar riffs is outstanding and the flips not half bad either. I sold a M- copy in 2018 for the same price, no inflation here, and quite a gesture given that it won’t come to market again any time soon. Date and local catalogue number written on label, not distracting, just provenance) Fabulettes – The bigger they are – Monument 901 DJ M- £75 (Nashville label with plenty of soulful output. Lovely girly dancer, almost dreamy, but a finger popper, seen at 100 recently) Freddie North - The hurt - RIC Ex+ £250 SOLD (Almost Jackie Wilsonesque, the super talented brassy voiced Freddie delivers on this cool mover, on the rarer gold Recording Industries Corp label operated by Luther Vanadore out of in Nashville. Same stable as the more prolific Roosevelt Grier who gave us “In my tenement”) Diamond Joe – Wait a minute baby / How to pick a winner – Sansu 454 WD Ex+ £40 (A fabulous pair of palatable R&B tunes. For mains we have “Wait”, a piercing church choir style backing intro, shimmering tambourines, deep moaning guitar and belting horn fanfares, absolutely brilliant, but that’s not it, oh no, flip it over for dessert, “Winner” a lowdown bluesy smoozer, trumpet nipping in and out of short piano riffs, all following that mazy vocal journey, winding its way through this smoky R&B cabaret…. superb) Image on request, exceeded upload limit!!! PayPal as friends or add 4% please, or I can send bank details. Postage (Latest 2021 Prices for up to 250g): £3.25 – 1st Class Signed For (Only insured to £50 – buyers risk) £7.65 - Special Delivery (Fully insured up to £500) £8.65 – Special Delivery (Fully insured to £1000) £10.65 – Special Delivery (Fully Insured up to £2500) Overseas on Request Cheers, Lee
  11. Im sure you know and its just a typo but local release on Noel not Nola, Lee
  12. For many years I’d taken an uninformed unlike (not as strong as a dislike) to Berry, based on his failed relationship with Raynoma, and what I read or thought I read was, his interfering / undermining her own business interests, namely Shrine with Eddie Singleton. I almost blamed Berry for the demise of Shrine and therefore my access to this mythical catalogue. Beyond that Ive never really payed attention to whether he or any other Motown employee was good or bad, lets face it theres good and bad everywhere and we all interpret or assess it differently. I’m not even sure we should be talking about him in the sense of a boss. I’m not an aficionado, i haven’t read anyones studied accounts, but iI have watched and rewatched the laymans documentary Hitsville - The making of Motown, and I marvelled at the description of Motowns operating model based on the assembly line of Detroits motor industry, so all he did in my opinion was follow the plan, and yes, he may have upset some people, missed some obvious talent, ignored and discarded the odd bang on hit along the way, but I don’t think he or his colleagues, who were equally responsible in making the decisions based on individual votes, were personally at fault, it was simply a business model that they adhered to and now stands as a shining example of global and timeless success, made even more impressive by the social and poliical barriers of the time, or now for that matter. Lets face it without the whole of Motown, not just Berrys commitment to the Company, every artist and every track could have been commercially released, so its the Quality Control stamp on Frank Wilsons - Do I love you, that tells the story, why else have we been blessed with the opportunity of a lifetime of unravelling fading knowledge and chasing the tapes, acetates, various pressings, memorabilia and all the amazing tales. Bless them all, I love their music and achievements
  13. A pair of cheaper end goodies up for grabs, which if you don’t know I would highly recommend you listening to. Sound files and additional images available if you want. PM and questions or to reserve. Fabulettes – The bigger they are – Monument 901 DJ M- £75 (Nashville label with plenty of soulful output. Lovely girly dancer, almost dreamy, but a finger popper) Diamond Joe – Wait a minute baby / How to pick a winner – Sansu 454 WD Ex+ £40 (A fabulous pair of palatable R&B tunes. 14. Looking for a mint minus Elsie Strong - Ask the lonely - Sounds International out of Norfolk VA. Please state price if you have one you're willing to sell. Cheers, Lee
  15. Couple of spare long players, which I certainly wouldn’t let go if they weren’t duplicates. Graded cover first / vinyl second. PM any questions or to reserve? Garland Green – Jealous Kind of Fella – Uni 73073 Stereo Ex+ / M- £60 SOLD The liner notes on this classic LP are a collection of accolades for the artist from contemporaries in Chicago’s radio station world, particularly one E. Rodney Jones. With Josie Armstead, who was at the helm of the Giant, Gamma and Globe labels, and magnificent Mike Terry’s close oversight of this album, it’s no surprise its steeped in class output from across the Gamma, Revue, Uni releases. An outstanding album. Tiny drill hole in the cover and original Uni sleeve but not the record. See images for track listing. Metros – Sweetest One – RCA Victor 3776 Ex- / M- £125 SOLD I’d have this for the artwork alone, surely one of the most enigmatic LP covers available on the Northern scene and one that would take pride of place if framed in your record room. Pied Piper does it again, the “Detroit Sound” of the Metros encompassed on this quality slab of vinyl, includes unreleased on 45 “Till the end of time”, a cover of the O’Jays “I’ll never forget you” that the mighty “Since I found my baby”, and all done in Dynagroove don’t you know, described as “brilliant clarity, realistic presence, full-bodied tone”, which in a nutshell describes my Merlot at weekend. This is the Mono press, and from my Okeh LP collecting, the Monos are generally more sought after. A light biro name written 3 times on back cover twice on front, light wear to seams, with an inch parting on top right, but otherwise all intact. Minimal sleeve and handling marks on vinyl. PayPal as friends or add 4% please or I can send bank details. Postage: 1st Class Signed For - £5 (fully insured) International Tracked and Signed, please enquire. Cheers, Lee
  16. It’s a glorious day on the south coast, perfect for dabbling in vinyl, so here’s a bright and bubbly selection of Northern sales for your delectation! Sound files and additional images available if you want. PM and questions or to reserve. Barbara Mason – Bobby, is my baby – Arctic 120 Ex £50 SOLD (Same backing as the Rotations – Dime on D-9, and why not share amongst friends in the same Philly stable) Bobby Black – Right on – Axis 117 M- £275 (Lovely piano intro to this finger popping, girly backed dancer out of New Jersey, owned and operated by Artus Sutterfield) Lorraine & Delights – Baby I need you – Barry 1002 WD M- £125 SOLD (Always been one of the picks from this big city catalogue, but to be honest there’s great Northern all over the label. Pulsating girl group dancer on a lush white demo. Flip label has a tiny mark over title) Youth Opportunity Program – Of hopes, dreams and tombstones – Columbia 43407 WD M- £800 SOLD (Vocals by Jimmy Fraser, all played out on the back of a rampant beat with occasional catch your breath pauses that will allow just enough time to regather your dance floor composure. A classic example of a Northern stomper that's in great shape and never out of sorts) Jimmy Bailey – Pains of love / Keep on running – Columbia 43530 WD Ex £20 (Solid vocals, catchy beat and full on backing on “Pains”, and the flip is a tidy cover of Jackie Edwards glorious “Keep on running”, which as a musical entity was of course probably made more famous by the Spencer Davis Group. Nice cheap double sider. Top side is Ex, but the flip has some scuffs, it pops at the start but settles until it trails off, so Vg+, it’s a tune built for woofer speakers so plays loud and proud 2 x on flip label) Exits – Under the street lamp / Got to have money – Gemini 1004 Ex £125 SOLD (A sprinkling of Jimmy Conwell, Godoy & Charles Colbert, Esko Wallace and Louis Hendricks, add a little dash of Leonard Jewell-Smith at the helm and all of a sudden it’s a masterclass, and all names linked to the highest quality of Soul output that surely any 60s group put together. You couldn’t have 2 more differing ends of the Northern spectrum on one 45, street lamp corner harmonies on one and mean and menacing mohair on the other, bang for your buck) Fabulettes – The bigger they are – Monument 901 DJ M- (Much in the vein of Loz and Delights, lovely girly dancer, almost dreamy, but a finger popper) Herb Ward – Honest to goodness – RCA 9688 YDJ M- £300 SOLD (More fantastic classic northern from the RCA stable. Very subtle edge lift, has no effect on play whatsoever. Lovely copy) Sequins – A case of love – Renfro 112 Ex+ £200 SOLD (I remember my first import by these girls, “He’s a flirt” which was and still is relatively hard to find, I was transfixed by that starry spinning disc logo, and deep rouge label, the sort of added extra that keeps me tickin’ above and beyond the music itself. “Case of love” always played second fiddle but still a stunner in my eyes and ears) Diamond Joe – Wait a minute baby / How to pick a winner – Sansu 454 WD Ex+ £40 (They’re all good, BUT this is the jewel on this list, a fabulous pair of palatable R&B tunes. For mains we have “Wait”, a piercing church choir style backing intro, shimmering tambourines, deep moaning guitar and belting horn fanfares, absolutely brilliant, but that’s not it, oh no, flip it over for dessert, “Winner” a lowdown bluesy smoozer, trumpet nipping in and out of short piano riffs, all following that mazy vocal journey, winding its way through this smokey R&B cabaret…. superb) Renaldo Domino – Don’t go away – Smash 2127 WD M- £30 (Sweet, punchy and undulating vocal, backed by superb harmonies and horns. Pre-Twi-night recording from this Chicagoan soulster. Great copy) PayPal as friends or add 4% please or I can send bank details Postage (Latest 2021 Prices for up to 250g): £1.85 – 1st Class (covers to £50) £3.25 - 1st Class Signed For (covers to £50) £7.65 - Special Delivery (Fully insured up to £500) Overseas on Request Cheers, Lee
  17. Todays classic northern winner is also a superb double sider ….. 7th Avenue Aviators – You should o’ held on / Boy next door – Congress 255 WD Ex £1600 SOLD Drawing on his Gospel roots, Frankie Karl used his US Air Force time like he did his youth, growing his musical talent and forming the Chevrons along with Herbert Holmes and Kenneth Calvert. Whilst Karl had experience performing and recording with the likes of Billy Preston and Gloria Jones, it was his pal Holmes who did the important bit, penning the uptempo “You should o’ held on” and the midtempo and under the radar flip “Boy next door”. Both sides were produced by Dave Chackler for Philtown Productions in 1965 and released for Frankie Karl and the Chevrons on the Philtown label. This Philly group changed their name to the 7th Avenue Aviators, possibly as a reference to their Air Force service or for obvious promotional reasons in advance of being picked up for a national release on the Kapp subsidiary Congress. Chackler went on to become a promoter, with successes for Mercury and Smash. After the Air Force Frankie Karl went back to LA where he worked with Eugene Dozier but was unbale to secure a contract. Very nice copy with minor handling marks and the very feintest of edge lift on rotation, with no effect on play. Clean labels both sides. I hadn’t picked up on the small star (denoting plug side) label variation but having looked around it appears less common than the big star copies but can’t see how that would influence anything. 18. Just one up for grabs, pm any questions or offers….. Al McCarther – His true love for you – Two Guitars 900 Ex Offers SOLD This just has to be one of the most subtle beat ballads known to the scene, luxuriously rich vocals, light drum intro, meandering flute and string backing on a wave of melancholy dreaminess, a gem and to die for. Remained remarkably hard to find over the years, so much so that it was booted to meet the demands of the “Popcorn” scene traditional to Europe, but don’t worry this is a genuine machine stamped original. We can safely assume it’s an east coast press because of its Rockaway, New Jersey pressing plant origins, however with what appears to be only one other release on the label by the Shirley Brothers and judging by the title “Sound of the bugles” it probably explains why the label didn’t survive! It’s the same old story with Northern though, these short-lived enterprises lead to so many 45s becoming obscure and sought after. There’s nowt on the artist I can find, the distributors an publishers are almost a mystery, but one producer Chip Taylor (James Voight) is in fact the brother of actor Jon Voight and uncle to Angelina Josie, whose been involved with many big hitters over the years including the Troggs, Chrissie Hynde, Jimi Hendrix and our own PP Arnold to name a few. A stamp of quality on this 45 in itself. Vinyl has light fingernail and sleeve marks, nothing to concern or affect feedback in any way, a lovely player at Excellent overall. Labels may not be sharp white, not sure the paper used ever was, but they are clean. A delight for a record of this stature in today’s world. I’m happy to take offers for a few days, keeping you informed of progress, but will sell if I get an offer I can’t refuse. 19. Just the one beauty today. Sound files available on request, PM any questions or to reserve. SOLD Silhouettes – Not me baby – Goodway 101 Promo M- £2000 SOLD It’s a fact that this 45 wasn’t released to sell on the open market and was simply used to promote the reinvention of this Philly doo-wop group, known mainly for their 1958 chart topper “Get a job”. The album titled “The Original and New Silhouettes” featured previous recordings by original members, including lead Bill Horton of Kayden label fame, and 3 new recordings by a mix of old and new members, including a “John Bootsie Wilson” vocal lead on “Not me baby” before he slipped back into the same obscurity associated with so many unheralded Northern artists. The 45 is a legacy of the intent to promote the New Silhouettes and kick start careers, and only available as a packaged insert in the album sleeve. It’s rarity was cemented even further through its production and marketing by Goodway, a printing company, rather than any well-known record publishing group, like Bell where it was recorded. It’s this typical down on your luck storyline and the style of music of course that resonates with Northern fans all over the world, making it one of a select bunch that still has DJs and collectors scouring the world for to the present day and beyond. Mint Minus vinyl. Immaculate mesmeric blue and green swirl labels, with the top side label only showing 1/2 the catalogue number due to casual label fixing at pressing plant, the scourge of a few copies I’ve seen. PayPal as friends or add 4% please or I can send bank details. Fully insured postage included. Overseas postage on Request. Cheers, Lee

  20. Just one major label offering up for grabs today. Sound file and additional images available if you want. PM any questions or to reserve. Youth Opportunity Program – Of hopes, dreams and tombstones – Columbia 43407 WD M- £950 Titled more like a spaghetti western, but reality is soon restored with the unmistakable harmonica intro punctured by the stern vocals of Jimmy Fraser, all played out on the back of a rampant beat with occasional catch your breath pauses that will allow just enough time to regather your dance floor composure. A classic example of a Northern stomper that's in great shape and never out of sorts. For a major label, the pressing variations make this a very interesting recording. There exists a rarer vinyl demo (one went for nearly 1400 on JM's auction last month), and Jimmy Fraser credited styrene demos and red stock copies, but no red stockers of YOP that I am aware of? There's also the historically valued public message sleeve that accompanied the YOP release to coax those unruly nippers to stick with their education, but unfortunately no longer coupled with this particular 45. PayPal as friends or add 4% please, or I can send bank details. Postage (Latest 2021 Prices for up to 250g): £8.65 - Special Delivery (Fully insured up to £1000) Overseas on Request Cheers, Lee

Massive interest last time out in Nov) Youth Opportunity Program – Of hopes, dreams and tombstones – Columbia 43407 WD M- £1100 (Wow, the unmistakable harmonica intro, then Jimmy Frasers stern vocals on the back of a rampant beat with occasional catch your breath pauses, who’d drop out of school on the back of this message, just late starts after long nights at the local Soul club. 25. Picked up a couple of CD's, haven't done so in a while, was surprised I still had some means to play them as my iPhone tech doesn't include a CD tray , the Classiest Rarities 7 is absolutely superb, highly recommended and contains an unissued track which is probably the best thing I have heard for many many years, made my day being privy to music like that. Birth of Soul CD very pleasant too. Service, packaging, delivery time all spot on . Cheers
