Thanks everyone for your replies, interesting to hear how well he's known and that his release is likely to do well and get him some rewards. Gutted I hadn't picked up on him in time to pick up tickets for his Brighton gig, heigh ho, if he's going big, there'll be plenty of other opportunities. I'll be picking up his album that's for sure. Keep on! Lee

I first heard his new track "Come and get it" on my local radio station a few weeks ago and immediately picked up on it's 60's soul/motown style. Didn't catch the artists name but soon discovered it to be Eli Paperboy Reed who it appears paid his own way to get around the circuit finally to be recognised and signed by Capitol. I've gotta say it's being plugged big time, which is amazing for this style of music on a commercial radio station that covers a significant portion of the South Coast. Eli makes reference to Bobby Womacks "What is this" as one of his favourite/influential tracks. Come and get it is well worth a listen, so the link is below: https://elipaperboyreed.com/uk/ Regards, Lee

I am interested in who the Group were and where the Nite Beat label hailed from, although I understand it to be a Philly label from 1970? I know the 45 went on nationally with Cotillion, but all I have seen are issue copies, does it exist in promo form with both sides "Pretty as a picture" and "To make you love me"? Cheers, Lee

I can't believe that a 33 like this isn't being snapped up at what is a great price. A full house of fantastic tracks... Highly recommended.

2 X Alan Rhodes Casino Monsters To Clear
Soulfulsolutions replied to Andybellwood's topic in Record Sales
It cheered me up seeing Alan's name in light's. Going back some years he always tipped me off about great tracks others would ignore, so much so I am still looking for some of them now. I was aware of his Casino outing's but never heard anyone else mention his deeds, clearly underrated, shame as Alan knows his stuff. -
Looking for a mint minus copy with original centre. Please PM Show Stoppers - Shake Your Mini / Heartbreaker - Beacon (UK) Did it come out on US Showtime or Party Time? Cheers, Lee

You'll notice my recent 33's sales didn't include my copy of this, you'd have to be mad to let it go once you've got it!!!! Any demo copies out there? Mine's a mint black issue. Just a reminder of how good it looks, superb cover! Lee

Cheers Roger. There doesn't seem to be anything odd about either label, both appear genuine. I can't believe that these high end / rare Kapp recordings I mentioned suffered from being pressed. I have an Issue and a Demo copy of the Hestitations - Soul Superman album, but both have different prefixes to the album number KS 3525 indicating stereo, K 3525 indicating mono. Perhaps this was not a method used on 45's as no KS appear on any 45. Maybe there is something in the black and pink A's to suggest that's how Kapp defined mono / stereo recordings? Brunswick did it with yellow and blue labels. Lee
-
Chalky, that's very helpful, been doing some digging since the post, manship's guide makes reference to what you've said, had a look at some Kapp demos; Rubin, Exits, Patti & Emblems and the pink A is on all of them, only exception is September Jones & Hesitations where the A is replaced with a black star. The Exits currently on Ebay is a black A copy (jpg from ebay attached) yet it's getting some serious attention! Not forgetting what a great track it is of course.
-
-
Can anyone shed any light on what the significance of the Kapp demo's having a Red or Black A, could it be mono / stereo? Cheers, Lee

I am looking for a US radio station survey put out by WHRV near Ann Arbor, Michigan for my collection. If you have one or more and would consider selling I would like to hear from you. PM or e-mail benray@sky.com Or a copy as a last resort!!! Thanks, Lee
