I've got a copy of Greylan Williams & The Hustlers covering the Temps classic "My girl" on the Soul Revue label. I'm not normally keen on covers but this particular version is raw northern, full of horns and gritty vocals, the sort that would probably get you kicked off X-factor (doesn't apply to Wagner of course), certainly not your polished commercial Motown. I can appreciate why a track like this won't see action at venues but everything about the 45, artist name, male group backing, soulful rendition, great arrangement and small town label, screams obscure and worthy of a place in anyones collection on it's own merits. I sold my first minty copy for £150 over 5 years ago, took me some time to find another, then like buses 2 came along, both in VG+/++, but typically I've not seen another copy since. Haven't noticed it on any sales listings and I'm certain it doesn't get a mention in any price guide. Anyone else come accross it, thoughts on it's quality, rarity, origins and current value? Happy to put up a scan and soundfile if anyone's interested. Regards, Lee

Well well, seems like the Paperboy has stirred all sorts of emotion! My original post was only meant to explore how well known he was. I was just impressed to come across a young unassuming artist who favours a soulful style that sounded right in the groove of my 60's taste. It was great to hear something on the local radio on the road to work other than the obvious (but still classy) Motown numbers, 3 Degrees, Edwin Starr (God bless him) and even Dobie Gray's "Drift Away" amongst others. Given the fact that our scene, regardless of what specific type of soul you're into is constantly evolving I'm glad so see and hear there's someone current who is clearly influenced by the real thing (check the play list in the earler post) that may be able to influence a whole new generation to take a look at the vast array of quality soul that exists off the beaten track. I for one will pick up his album, probably the last one as well, just before I pick up some tickets to see him live. Thanks for all the replies, many interesting reads that generally suggest he's a breath of fresh air in a dull UK chart. Regards, Lee
