  1. Can anyone tell me if Cappy of Cappy's Record Store in Detroit is still about. From what I understand his store was probably in excistence from the late 50's to late 70's, I think he had lots of stock after closure that he sold at early format record fairs. I have no idea if Cappy is still with us, I hope he is, if he is making contact would be great, any help here much appreciated. I am in contact with some lucky collectors who used his store and saw him at the record fairs in the late 70's, they've been helpful with recollections, but what I'm really trying to establish is did he have close contact with the Motown set up? The picture I am building is he may have been an influential figure, clearly as a Detriot based store owner he would have been in prime position to sell, promote or distribute Motowns output, but I'm keen to know if he had any inside role or links with the Motown set up? Looking forward to hearing from anyone. Cheers, Lee

  9. Motor city septet of legendary white labels, no duffers here...... As ever, sound files available on request, PM to ask any questions or reserve. Temptations - Beauty is only skin deep - Gordy 7055 WD M- £30 (These Motown stable white demos are a thing of beauty, duplicate copy hence the sale of this all time classic) Eric & Vikings - I'm truly yours - Gordy 7132 WD Ex £25 (Superbly worked Motown, classy and so far on down the road from the raw sound of the early days. Date written on both labels) The following five all have mild signs of age on the labels, however the vinyl on each is not the usual beaten up Detroit, they play beautifully with absolutely no kickback......corking stuff! Perigents - One girl too many / Let's get into something - Maltese 101 WD M- £60 (Cracking double sider, subtle mid-tempo on top and pile driver dancer on the flip, harder on demo than "Love on the rampage" if you ask me, and poorer condition seen issues from 50-75) Laura Lee - To win your heart - Ric-Tic 111 WD M- £75 SOLD (Ever popular and in the most desirable format, top label slightly off centre and red pen flick on both titles, innocuous really) Prophets - My kind of girl - Stephanye 335 WD M- £40 (Another sharp Myto Music production, mellow Detroit on a rare white demo, and in factory fresh condition) Rose Battiste - I can't leave you - Thelma 102 WD M- £225 (The "sweetheart darling" of Detroit, stunning vocals on this early Thelma outing, can't be easy to pick up in mint, red XOL, DJ stamp and very minor ring wear more visible on the scan than in the hand) Chris Clark - Love's gone bad - VIP 25038 WD M- £75 SOLD (Femme Motown dancer with attitude, XOL both sides, slight wear on one label portion, otherwise plays M-, duplicate otherwise I wouldn't let it go) PayPal as friends or add 4% Please Postage: £1.25 - 1st Class £2.50 - 1st Class Signed For £7.25 - Special Delivery Overseas on Request Cheers, Lee

  11. Couple of stunning 45's up for grabs. PM me with any questions or to reserve. Intensions - She needs somebody / You say that you love me - USA 811 Ex+ £1800 SOLD Here we go with 2 breathless Chicago sides. "She needs somebody" is carried by coarse by faultless up-tempo vocals, punctuated by catchy backing harmonies, "You say" matches the top side for pace, pounds along onthose raw group vocals associated with traditional Northern. Probably the rarest release on Jim Golden's label, suffering from its own obscurity but highly revered where its owned and played. Plays spot on M- and apart from the pressing's lustre which is not as shiny as some you see, there are just the mildest signs of use and no marks to write home about - minimal. The top label (b-side really) look mildly aged, dulled over time, no different to what I've seen with the Shadows, Baby Huey and Carole Waller etc, the flip has sharper colours. No writing, tears or lift etc. She needs somebody.mp3 You say that you love me.mp3 Little Tommy - Baby can't you see - Sound of Soul 104 M- £1200 SOLD Given the write up for the Intensions being so rare, I'm not trying to ignore this fabulous dancer out of Richmond, Virginia, which is still filling dance floors after all these years. Tough to find in this condition, clean labels and great vinyl, plays superb. Raised X on flip run out. Baby cant you see.mp3 PayPal as friends or add 4% Please Postage: UK Special Delivery Included Overseas on Request Cheers, Lee

Date written on both labels) Lawrence & Arabians - I'll try harder - HEM 1002 M- £40 ON HOLD (Very collectable label, great big brassy group dancer, just a minor rub on flip label) Hesitations - You can't by pass love - Kapp 848 WD Ex+ £50 ON HOLD (Formidable soul group, every track they did was a winner, not surprising given the Pied Piper influence. Just the lightest of ring wear on the top label) Sugar N' Spice - Lucky we - Lira 777 M- £250 (Never shows up, completely elusive Ohio based duo, what a dancer, a hidden gem on a rare and obscure label that will surely take off in the right hands, I recommend the sound file) Lucky we.mp3 Prophets - My kind of girl - Stephanye 335 WD M- £40 (Another sharp Myto Music production, mellow Detroit on a rare white demo, and in factory fresh condition) Ballads - I can't see your love - Vee-Jay 714 WD Ex £100 (Always been in my top ten, fabulous pounding soul charger. Keeping my Wee copy hence letting this go) Linda Lyndell - Bring your love back to me - Volt 161 WD M- £100 ON HOLD (Cover of the Chymes outing on Okeh resulting in a big brassy punchy femme dancer, and on the hard to find demo too) PayPal as friends or add 4% please Postage: £1.25 - 1st Class £2.50 - 1st Class Signed For £7.25 - Special Delivery Overseas on Request Cheers, Lee
  13. Some awesome tracks here that never go out of fashion, others obscure or rare, but all on labels that sport the hues of a beautiful summers day...... As ever, sound files available on request, PM to ask any questions or reserve. Celebrities - You didn't tell the truth - Boss 501 M- £300 (Seen a couple at this price with reversed labels, this stunning Detroit dancer has the labels the right way round, and in TOP-TOP shape too) Exits - Got to have money / Under the street lamp - Gemini 1004 Ex+ £70 SOLD (Beat ballad of monstrous proportions backed by a harder edged dancer, both are total anthems) Carol & Gerri - On you heartaches look good / How can I ever find the way - MGM 13568 M- YDJ £375 (2 extraordinary sides that bless the same slab of glorious vinyl) Ambassadors of Soul - Gotta find her - Ovide 238 M- £150 ON HOLD (The rare flip to "Cool sticks", this sublime slice of mid-tempo group soul never shows up, as such it has a reputation for being one of the hardest on the label) Reactions - Live my life for myself - Sanfris 50 DJ Vg+ £200 (Not as rare as the nationally distributed release on Dynamo Records, but this local NY label provides us with a classy group composition full of raw harmonies and excellent lyrics. Some light audible feedback on a couple of vinyl marks, but otherwise plays loud and clear) LaCleve Milon - Take A Giant Step - SOH (Select-O-Hit) 015 M- £100 (2 excellent sides to this Memphis release, "Giant step" will strike a chord with the funkier edge fans, whilst "Your love " nails the mid-tempo crossover floor) PayPal as friends or add 4% please Postage: £2.50 - 1st Class Signed For £7.25 - Special Delivery Overseas on Request Cheers, Lee
  14. Who needs Florida for sunshine when you can bask in its light at home........ Sound files on request, happy to take questions or reservations by PM. Raphael Munnings - Opportunity knockin' / Sleep on, dream on - Alston 4610 Ex £700 OVNO Opportunity knockin.mp3 Sleep on dream on.mp3 Henry Stone & Steve Alaimo's Miami label, deep with rich produce sporting this extraordinary double sider. "Opportunity" is an intoxicating mid-tempo crossover dancer that's been packing floors where this 45 is lucky enough to have been resident. "Sleep on" is emerging from the shadows of its bigger brother, steadily getting the recognition it deserves and reminding me of the Appointments "Keep away" and Universals "Diamonds and pearls" grittier funky edged tracks that's become so sought after on the scene of late. Overall I rate the 45 at Excellent, there are some marks on "Opportunity" side, which have light feedback, but it plays loud and clear just short of Ex, "Sleep on" plays close to M-, both labels have minor writing as per scans, the distributor line has been misprinted off the label, otherwise fine - Hard to find 45 let alone in this very reasonable condition. PayPal as friends or add 4% Postage: £8.25 - Special Delivery Overseas on Request Cheers, Lee

  24. A couple of wounded soldiers here, but don't worry there fit for action and able to parade on the turntable at the appointed time. Happy to send sound files to support descriptions. Adventurers - Easy baby - Compass 222 Vg £275 SOLD (Grading is low due to looks. This one has numerous surface marks but apart from a 1cm scratch on the run in they are superficial. The scratch is only audible during the intro for about 10-12 revolutions and is generally overwhelmed by a track that p...lays LOUD & CLEAR, thereafter it stops and plays Ex or better. See image for label description. I sold a M- copy for 400 earlier this year, could have sold 10, since then I've seen them go for 450 and rising. So, it might not look the prettiest but its still a good player and ripe for DJ-ing) Exits - I don't want to hear it - Gemini 1006 Vg++ £75 (The vinyl on this one is much better to look at with only minor blemishes and plays Excellent, so this is down graded mainly by grubby labels with a bit of wear and light writing. I sold 2 M- Demos in the last year at 150, so again there's a deal to be had here. Grading apart, what a Group and another stunning track by them) PayPal as friends or add 4% Postage: £2.50 - 1st Class Signed For £7.25 - Special Delivery Overseas on Request Cheers, Lee
