"in Harlem, 2 Record Stores Go The Way Of Vinyl"
Dave Rimmer replied to a topic in All About the SOUL
Hi Juddy, thanks for posting the article, it's probably something us Brits wouldn't normally have seen. The situation you refer to above is not limited to the States, or Black communities either. Here in the UK, as what have traditionally been rough areas improve, mostly due to the work of the residents in the area I might add, you find that their childern are unable to remain in the area. Driven out by economics and demand from people outside the area. So the sense of community that improved the estate goes, especially as most of the people who did the work get older. You end up with an estate that has no soul, no sense of belonging, which will eventually lead to a downturn in the area's fortunes because if you have no sense of belonging, you have no sense of caring for the area or the future of it's children. Sad, but a fact of these materialistic times. Or am I just viewing the past when communities cared about each other through rose tinted glasses? -

Can't find the way you add clips, used to be a button at the bottom right but that seems to have disappeared -
The Accents - You Better Think Again / Who You Gonna Love
Dave Rimmer posted a topic in Record Sales
The Accents - You Better Think Again / Who You Gonna Love - One-Derful - £200 Great double sider in near mint condition, one surface mark on the WYGL side which does not affect the sound quality at all. Books at £250, so I think £200 is a fair price. Paypal accepted, but you pay the 4% commission. Next day postage £4.50 PM me to discuss buying or offering a suitable trade. The scans and sound files are taken from the actual record. Accents___Who_You_Gonna_Love___One_Derful.mp3 Accents___You_Better_Think_Again___One_Derful.mp3 -
One of them is Liam who is on SS

Ah well, I feel another explanation coming on. You're obviously confused about the difference between a Demonstration copy of a record (Which is given away to DJs and Radio Stations) and an Issue (Also known sometimes as a stock copy and sold in shops). So there can be no such thing as a demo issue. I thought you'd have understood this with your love of pretty colours. It even applies to the second issues released in the UK.

These are superb boxes. I've had one for a few years now and had no problems with it at all. Apparently they are made locally in Manchester, the only thing I would say is if you use card sleeves and then paper sleeves you can only get about 165 records in them, not the 200 they claim.

Perhaps you ought to tell your nine year old daughter about the UK as well as reissues then. The UK is not an independent country at all. The United Kingdom is not even a country. It's a conglomerate of England, Wales, Scotland, and Northern Ireland. So, having established that you don't even comprehend the geographical area that records are reissued in, how on earth can you grasp the concept that if a record is released for the second time, irregardless of country, it's a reissue. By the way, if you go back to my original post on this thread I think you'll find that I said "Can't dispute that it's the first British issue, but at the end of the day, it's a reissue of a record that was originally released in the US." So you are actually agreeing with me. Glad we sorted that out Pretty colours by the way, and yes, I've deliberately taken an opposing stance just for the wind up
-
Except if you had read my post you'll find I never used the word RE-RELEASE. So looking at the word doesn't help much because I didn't use it. You did.
-
Read your own post. the clue is in there.......released in US then in the UK, the UK one is a SECOND issue. Simple 1....US 2....UK SECOND ISSUE
-
That would be when Barry and Pete ran it. Remember going to this, as a punter, and being asked to DJ because someone hadn't turned up, so I did the spot with a few scrounged records and the contents of my sales box. Quite funny really, Barry came up to me and said, "Have you got any records with you ?". Thinking he meant sales I said yes. He replied "Good. You're on in twenty minutes" From memory the problem with the sound system was that one deck played much louder than the other.
-
Can't dispute that it's the first British issue, but at the end of the day, it's a reissue of a record that was originally released in the US. So the US release is the original, and the UK release is a reissue.

These are the most up to date allnighter dates for 2015 and now 2016. If you want your event included, PM me, and I'll do it within 24 hours (Usually ). It's really up to YOU as a promoter, if you don't give me dates, they won't get included. Please note - this is an ALLNIGHTER planner, so only send details of proper allnighters, and weekenders, not long Soul nights. Any problems, ask somebody else....or a PM to me. Who Are The Dj's On Here, And What Styles They Play
Dave Rimmer replied to a topic in All About the SOUL
No problem at all there Kirsty. It's true. When I started DJing I took spots anywhere in the country, did warm up spots at allnighters (I did the very first spot at the very first Winsford niter for example), and never turned a booking down unless I was already booked. I was significantly helped by the fact that I was one of the regular guests at Albrighton Lea Manor, which in it's prime was probably the best Soul night in the country. But because people travelled to attend Albrighton, people from other parts of the country heard me DJ, and when they booked me, people from their area, and people who had travelled to their venue also heard me, and I got more bookings from that. Thing is, I still never turn a booking down unless I'm already booked and will still do spots anywhere in the country, simply because I enjoy DJing so much. Of course there is one other thing involved, and although it sounds like I'm blowing my own trumpet here, I can't say it any other way. You actually have to be a good DJ, and remember, you have been hired to do a job, like anything else, if you do it well, you will be hired again. -
Holland Dozier Holland They, along with Smokey Robinson, changed the American popular music scene.

That's just typical of you isn't it. Somebody gives you £500....and you spend it on CHEAP whores
-
No need to Chalky. My views are well known. I'm not particularly bothered these days at Soul nights, but it's originals only for all nighters. Simple way to avoid playing bootlegs is don't put any in the play box I'm happy with my own view on this, and if other people are happy with their view, let them get on with it. The only thing I'd add is that promoters should make a decision and stick to it, about booking DJs who play boots, irregardless of whether it means they won't get bookings on a return basis.

Two DJ versions as well. One with vocal and instrumental, and the other has vocal both sides. and I can't remember the last time I saw one for sale with regards to the price, so I'd say £150 is probably right these days -
Didn't know it had been booted
