  1. That could explain a lot
  2. That's four sentences How you doin' mate, you and Karen ok
  3. Completely. Quite funny really because by 1981 I was living in Dudley which is about 20 miles away from Stafford. I don't regret missing Stafford though, I have heard a fairly high proportion of the good Stafford tunes since, and spent my time away from the scene getting married and having kids. I'm still married and the kids are 23 an 20 now
  4. Why should we bother to spoil your self congratulatory thread In fact I came back at the tail end of the eighties, and from my point of view it was just as exciting as the Seventies because I had all those wonderful, soulful records to discover that had been played during my 'holiday'.
  5. I was at a local Soul night last night and the barman was in his early Twenties. Someone, and I never found out who told him I could explain Northern Soul to him One of the things I did mention in amongst the rambling five minute potted history that I gave him was how friendly the scene was, and how people were accepted on the scene, no matter how strange they were Mind you, I've got a theory about why there are so many oddballs and decidedly wierd people on the Northern scene. If you think about some of the strangest people you have met, and then ask yourself what would happen to them in a normal nighclub scene....Yep, they'd get a kicking, regularly ! But we just accept quite bizarre behaviour as normal on the Northern scene, and that's why they are with us Question to self "Am I just as guilty of bizarre behaviour ?" Probably if you measure my social life against that of normal people What I'm really trying to say is that I have never come across a scene of any type that is so accepting of anyone, as long as they accept the scene. And that's a good thing !
  6. Well actually, I haven't seen it either.
  7. I'm not disagreeing with you here John, because I have the same info as you on the last release. But, if you actually look at the HOTB listing, it jumps several numbers on at least two occasions 121 - Larry Birdsong and The Larryetts - I'll Let Nothing (Separate Me From Your Love) / Sooner Or Later - 1961 122 - Roy Brown - Rock And Roll Jamboree / I Need A Friend - 1961 123 - Willie Mitchell - I Like It / Willie's House Party - 1961 218 - The Five Royales - If You Don't Need Me / I'm Gonna Tell Them - 1961 229 - The Green Twins - What Is The Answer / Why Oh Why - 1961 230 - Willie Cobbs - You Don't Love Me / You're So Hard To Please - 1961 So anything is possible.
  8. I've finished the ironing now dear. Would you like another coffee, whilst you listen to your playlist ? If you look at the bottom of your details on each post (On the left hand side) you'll see a little icon that signifies your playlist. Click on it. I don't know, ironing, coffee making, PC consultant, are there no limits to my abilities

The scans the same as mine Gash, and I can't remember seeing another colour, but who knows, someone probably had it ten years ago
  10. In fact I've just ordered some
  11. No, I said I can get 120 singles through as hand luggage in one of those boxes. John Weston getting through customs pished is John Weston's problem. I'm going to get some cards printed that say I AM NOT RESPONSIBLE FOR JOHN WESTON !
  12. Both John Weston and I use these boxes from Hard To Find Records in Birmingham. They are the perfect size to fit as Hand Luggage. Here's the link HTFR Record Boxes
  13. I appreciate you apologised for taking the needle off someone's record James (And if Rob did do it deliberatly to wind you up that was just as bad) but until proven otherwise you don't really know whether Rob has a legitimate copy of the acetate. As Ady said, it's just as likely for another acetate to turn up these days as it is for a vinyl copy of a really rare single. I wouldn't make a habit of taking the needle off other people's records though because not only is it a very rude thing to do, it hasn't shown you in a good light at all, but I think think of quite a large number of DJs would would react quite violently to someone messing with their records, even if you did have Mick H there to hold your hand. You should have shown you have some class rather than throwing your dummy out of the pram at the venue. A little story, many years ago, just after I had bought the Magnetics - I have a girl, I was booked to DJ somewhere quite local for me. The promoter who had booked me then proceded to do the spot before me and play a boot of the Magnetics. All I did was smile. It didn't make me any less of a person, or any less of a DJ just because someone else has to play a bootleg, but I never for one minute considered taking the needle off the record. Stop taking yourself too seriously and go out to enjoy yourself instead. Dear me, DJs having tantrums, whatever next
  14. Well look closer next time https://www.soulfulkindamusic.net/cameo.htm https://www.soulfulkindamusic.net/parkway.htm
  15. You haven't read this thread at all have you Chris The whole thread is about the postmen being on strike Thursday, friday, Monday, and Tuesday. So how do you expect people to get any records before next Wednesday at the earliest. Stick to Disco Dancin'

The Four Tops also walked off the stage, straight out of the back door into their Limo and off to their hotel. No autographs, no speaking to fans. Just do the caberet act, take the money and go !
  18. It's quite a hard one this, you could go for all the top names and still not get the mix right, so I've tried to look at how the night would flow with these names Me (What the hell it's my niter line up and I like the records I play , and someone's got to do the warm up spot) Keith Money & John Weston double decking (Scotland's best export for years, with Birmingham's nightmare, superb together) Ady Croasdell (I wonder how many previously unreleased tracks Ady has introduced us to over the years ?) Chris Anderton (A DJ's DJ. I don't think I've ever heard Chris do a bad set, and someone's got to play some Disco ) Saus (The two nights when Saus 'took on' Butch at the 100 Club were awesome. So Saus is in for the gritty R & B he plays) Russ Vickers & Gavin Page double decking for an hour (Two top class DJs who can blend Sixties through to Modern seamlessly) Roger Banks (Playing Soul rather than R & B, he's rather good at it when he gets the chance) Shifty (Saffend's wide boy with a lot of front, and he had one or two decent records as well) Keith Money & John Weston again (Sunday nights in the pub at Prestatyn, the best set of the whole weekend, so they deserve two spots) Derek Allen (For his sheer enthusiasm as well as the records he owned. So many good memories of Derek) There you go, ten hours of top DJs and top Soul music, not all obvious choices, but I have respect for each and every one of these guys and am lucky enough to count most of them as friends.
  19. I think it all depends what he wants to do with the records. If he wants to DJ it'll all go on rarer end stuff £100+, and his 16.5K won't go far. If he wants to have a nice collection of Soul records you can get an awful lot of vinyl for 16.5K. Guessing though, if he's not currently on the scene, I'd say he will probably spend a fair chunk on some big money Oldies because if he sold up years ago those will be the records he remembers, so they will be the ones he wants. Trouble is, the reason Oldies have rocketed in price over the last few years is because there are lots of people who sold up years ago and now have a bit of wedge available to them and are buying back the sounds they remember. If it was me with 16.5K I'd settle my mortgage off, clear the credit cards, and then waste the rest on beer probably, but if I had to spend it on records I'd add probably twenty records to my DJ box, but then again I'm well known as a DJ prostitute

And in fact that was me posting on Margie's laptop because my PC is in bits again going for the six million dollar man rebuild !
  21. Personally I think if the Northern Soul HQ moves anywhere it's going to be Germany. A big, big scene that supports loads of Soul nights and at least five weekenders a year that I can think of off the top of my head: Nurenberg (Running as a weekender for over ten years now), Hamburg (Less than a fortnight to go ), Frankfurt, Bamberg, and Lubeck (Where N/S was the smallest room out of five and there were getting on for 3000 people on site), and whilst it might have all started from the Scooter scene, it's definitely evolved into a Soul scene now with very little scooter scene promotional involvement. Some of the German DJs are also top notch and could work regularly at top allnighters over here because they have the records and style to match the best of the UK's DJs. Ten years ago that wasn't the case, but the top German guys have spent just as much time, effort, and money as the top UK guys over the last few years which is an achievement to be proud of because don't forget that it's nearly all a foreign language for them ! I've been DJing in Germany for ten years now, and I love it. No politics, no oldies, no newies, just good Soul and R & B. Overall the country tends to be cleaner than the UK so there's virtually no litter blowing around in the streets, you feel safer in the cities, and the beer and food are usually superb. What's more nearly everyone speaks English which really helps this ignorant old git who never bothered learning German when he had the chance thirty years ago at school. I've got a reasonable grasp of French, but I've never DJ'ed there

The plan was to persuade Ady to let Hannah in as a guest, but of course she wouldn't get her single then, so Nick would have to sell his leaving him without a copy. I never got round to telling Ady about it though
  23. Thanks for including me Kev, but I have to do two spots
  24. Baz the moderator took it down and hasn't put it back up yet. i asked the same question about a fortnight ago.
