  1. This is the best one I've got of him as a solo artist
  2. Apparently the reason it's so rare is Motown stopped the publication because of the copyright implications in using images of their labels. At the time, Simon Soussan rang me up and asked if I wanted to buy ten copies at a wholesale price. I's never spoken to him before in my life, but was well aware of his reputation, so I suggested he send me ten, sale or return, payment when I'd sold them, or he send me one copy so that I could have a look at it. A week later one copy arrived, I never ordered any more and never heard from him again. I gather that the copies that he had printed before the block was put on the book were eventually sold at one of the big US record fairs, hence a few copies have found their way into the UK.
  3. Pontins has been sold, the new owners said in an interview in the local paper that it would be business as usual. Those are the only things that are fact. The rest is just rumour.
  4. Sian says I have to say it's Rugby, but it's the 100 Club really......only just though.
  5. Talking of Woolworths, when I moved to Dudley, about 25 years ago, I was staggered to find the local Woolworths had multiple copies of the 'This Is Loma' series of albums. Of the seven albums in the series they had them all except Vol 2, and they were only £1 each. I bought quite a few albums that day
  6. Sent you a PM
  7. Oooh I don't know about that Yes of course I will, but you will have to come and remind me, once I've had a few beers, any requests made three days early will have reached the rubbish bin part of my brain
  8. Yes I have, From memory, although I know I've read it somewhere, when the record was originally played both sides where played as cover ups (I'm sure Dave Thorley was one of the DJs) by different DJs
  9. Send me a copy as well please Pete
  10. And they were shite Disco records as well
  11. https://www.midwest45s.org/
  12. Really ?????? Lady In Green Magnetics are from Detroit, and Count The Days Magnetics are from Chicago. If it's the same lead singer he must have done a lot of commuting. And it's a still unconfirmed rumour that The Magnetics are the same group as The Volumes.
  13. As someone who has been buying Soul records for nearly forty years now, I have found this one of the most fascinating threads ever on Soul Source. Just keep the stories coming please.
  14. I'd be very surprised if any record dealers buy huge amounts of stuff by 'over bidding collectors only bidders'. If you are buying to sell on, you need to buy cheap so that you can make a profit. There's no sense in a record dealer outbidding collectors just to then try and sell it to those very same collectors at a higher price.
  15. It is however listed on Soulful Kinda Music's dicography of Clifford Curry, along with his other release for the label. Clifford Curry Woodshed 001 - Shag With Me / Once Or Twice - 1980 Woodshed 002 - Let's Have A Party / I Love Women - 1982
  16. I remember when me and Wilko convinced this pissed up lad that we were a team of decorators from up north waiting to go in and artex the 100 Club when the jazz punters had left. It helped that Wilko actually was an artexer so showed him his real business card
  17. I haven't said margie won't come to bedford though have I
  18. You certainly did book me for Gosport, and it turned out to be the same night that The Dells were on at Trentham Gardens Ah well, never mind, we had a great time both at the venue, and afterwards. Just to add my twopenn'orth. Shaun booked me to DJ at the Opera House in September (and the booking was confirmed in Ferbruary), so whilst I understand what you are saying Steve, and would agree with you to some extent, give the guys a bit of slack. As you rightly state, both Burnley and Wolverhampton are on that weekend. How many hardcore people would you expect to travel down to Bournemouth even if they did have a list of big names ? I realise I speak as someone who travels less than half the distance you do to virtually any venue, but it would have to be a bloody good line up to get me to travel to Bournemouth when Wolverhampton is five miles away. So perhaps in a congested diary it is the right policy to use DJs who are known locally to get the venue up and running, with bodies through the door and an atmosphere, then start to introduce a few more well known DJs. It really does look like a cracking venue, and I'd love to see it rammed in September, because it's much more fun clearing a full dancefloor than it is when there's nobody there (THAT'S A JOKE BY THE WAY) If you and Russ don't get there before September. come when I'm DJing and you can buy me a pint (Cos I'm a Northerner and those Suvvern beer prices give me heart palpitations ) One thing I will say, is calm down, it's not worth losing any sleep over (Although Suvvern beer prices are). I'll see you at Wolves if I don't see you over Easter. Cheers
  19. Finland to be exact, where it was a top twenty hit.

  22. LOL I'd forgotten that, so when he becomes an international superstar DJ I can actually say "I knew him when he was nowt but a lad, and I taught him all he knows"
  23. 'Fraid that's it for me, I'm off to bed. Pleasant background music though.............. Seriously, I can see the appeal for people, just not for me I'm afraid. Glad to see Jamie's doing so well at it. At least I can say "I knew him when he were nowt but a lad"
