  1. and are mint unplayed condition
  2. Precisely....
  3. I'm sure i've still got that tape Pete but can't find anything at the moment because the house is a shambles. I'm having new central heating, including new rads and piping, so furniture is all over the place where it shouldn't be. I'll have a look next week, remind me by PM
  4. I would guess it's because the Northern Soul scene is about Soul music, and the scooter scene is about scooters ! Personally I have no interest whatsoever in scooters, and would not even consider going to a Scooter rally. That's not meant as a criticism of those that do though, and I gather that the music on scooter rallies is much more varied than that at Soul nights and allnighters, for a start, it's not all Soul music at rallies is it ? So in that respect they probably are more open minded, but I'm happy with what I do, so that's the end of the discussion really as far as I'm concerned.
  5. No that was the club that was to the left of the Zoo entrance as you stand looking at it. It was called Bentleys in those days (No idea what it is now), and it was in 1994. That was back in the day when I was still involved in promoting venues, along with these guys John Weston, Mick Nold, Bill Randle, Ted Massey, and Dave Allen, from Birmingham, and Brian Fradgeley from Wolverhampton.
  6. Not quite walking distance, but it's only a £4 cab fare
  7. The guy that owned it was called Maurice (and I can't remember his surname). He wasn't the Market Inspector, but he owned a lot of the stalls on Portobello Rd market. That's what his original business was, market stalls. He eventually worked his way up to opened the 'in-shops' indoor market chain, and ended up a millionaire. So when he reached 50, he decided to do what he wanted rather than work all the time, so he opened the bar. I remember him saying he was willing to lose up to fifty grand before he gave up on the idea. I DJed there quite a few months before the 100 Club, but he had to close because the local drug dealers had a bit of a shoot out in the bar The next I heard about him was he had bought the site of the old waterworks in Nottingham for 4 million and sold it on for 7 million, couple of weeks later he turned up at my door in a Rolls Royce and we went out for a beer down the local Last I heard of him was when he made the TV news because he had been tortured by some guys that broke into his house in the Midlands. That was probably about three years ago.
  8. So do you want the record or not ????
  9. Have to agree. It was issued on Tamla Motown because it was a huge tune all over the Northern scene, and after the three before eight was probably the most recognised tune associated with Russ in that period.
  10. Neil Rushton has probably still got some in a garage somewhere
  11. The additional influence was Dave Godin's sign off in his column, which was always "Keep The Faith - Right On Now" from memory.
  12. From the sound clip it's fcuked which might explain why it's still there
  13. and we went back to the pub afterwards as well, so consequently, although I remember going to the Carlton Club, I have very little memory of anything else
  14. Got to agree. You should either rearrange, or cancel.
  15. As, and when, the promoter of Six Hills asks me to remove from the calendar I will, but sorry Steve, I won't remove it at your request..
  16. Toodarnsoulful, is one of the youngsters who danced on Duffy's video LOL
  17. Simon, You are a dirty little secret
  18. Rugby Soul Club it's always been The Drifter, unless I then go on to play a couple more with the lights on
  19. Just realised this 'Artist of the week' hasn't got a link to the discography, so here we go Bobby Bland Discography
  20. The majority of people who post regularly on SS are knowledgeable anoraks (And that's not meant as a criticism either), and sadly that's the attitude that has been brought to bear on the film before it was even released. Like Jock says, if it's a good film, it's a good film, if it's not, it's not, irregardless of the subject matter. From only having seen the trailer, there are a couple of things that made me cringe, and pulling the hood up on my anorak say "That's not right, I know because I was there". But does that really matter, think about all the other films you have seen: Where the hero dodges all 347 bullets fired at him by the bumbling incompetent baddies. The real world doesn't happen like that, but it would be a pretty crap film if the hero got killed in the first ten minutes. It's called artistic license, and is done for entertainment. Any film that has it's subject matter in the past will not be entirely accurate, but the majority of people won't care, they just want to watch a good film. The only ones who will be standing on their soapbox shouting "Rubbish" will be the anoraks of that particular subject.. I have to admit, I'm looking forward to seeing the film, it'll be 90 minutes of entertainment about something I like, and that's better than the telly most nights of the week. If you want reality watch Big Brother
  21. It's been such a terrible year, and Glen has become the latest in a, sadly, long list of friends that have left us, hopefully for a better place. I got to know Glen probably twenty years ago when I had just started Soulful Kinda Music, he contributed occasionally, and bought every issue without fail. He also contributed to the website. Chats at many different venues led to a mutual respect, and quite a few beers, but, my lasting memory of Glen will be as one of the Macc Lads in the quiz at Cleethorpes weekender. As a team they must have won it more often than anyone else, and no matter how hard Roger and I make the questions, the Macc Lads still manage to suss most of the answers. Rest In Peace my friend.
  22. Talking of which, I'm after a copy of this for someone.....anyone got one for sale ?
