When they decided that vinyl flooring was a trendy replacement term for linoleum

Route was the label, but can't remember anything else.

There aren't any Steve, unless the site search only goes back as 2005, and there are previous references to it that won't be indexed. I know at the time I did the flyers for the Black Horse we had been using the phrase for several years in the West Midlands, (I would guess at leat 2000) partly as a back lash at the plethora of boot playing venues that were around at the time. and I still blame John Pugh
-
So it's all my fault Actually it's a term that we had been using in the West Midlands for several years prior to 2005. I blame John Pugh Just realised by reading the old thread that it was 8 years ago to the day that that thread was running. I still blame John Pugh

So, on New Years Eve, I was in the Treygeyb Arms in Ffairfach in Mid Wales. It’s a cracking local boozer with a proper fire, good beer, and all the characters you’d expect to find in a local pub ! The entertainment for the night was a Sixties / Seventies / Eighties disco, provided by the Landlord’s son and jokingly the week before I said to Jessica: “I wonder if he’ll let me do a spot ?” Midweek Jessica goes into the pub and arranges for me to do a spot ! Then tells me that it’s done off a laptop using MP3s ! So, I’ve got to do a spot, New Years Eve, in a pub where 99% of the people would think of the bottom of their shoes if you mentioned Soul to them ! Using a laptop and MP3s ! Thanks girl ! Anyway, here’s what I played, and to be honest despite some initial trepidation about using a screen and mouse to DJ with, it absolutely is a piece of piss. The first spot is 10.30pm to 11.30pm, and the second one was somewhere around the 1.30am to 2am mark, but I’m a little hazy on the exact time. Suffice to say, I managed to get people up and dancing (And not just Jessica either) Desmond Dekker — The Israelites Dave & Ansell Collins — Double Barrel Harry J Allstars — Liqudator Baba Brooks — Guns Fever Jr Walker — Shotgun Martha Reeves & The Vandellas — Heatwave Maracles — Going To A Go Go Four Tops — Standing In The Shadows Of Love Jackie Wilson — Higher & Higher Temptations — The Way You Do The Things You Do Freda Payne — Band Of Gold Jr Walker — Roadrunner Frank Wilson — Do I Love You Marvin Gaye & Tammi Terrell — Two Can Have A Party Wilson Pickett — In The Midnight Hour Eddie Floyd — Knock On Wood Sam & Dave — You Don’t Know Like I Know Edwin Starr — Stop Her On Sight Impressions — You’ve Been Cheating Magnetics — I Have A Girl Jackie Wilson — I Get The Sweetest Feeling Temptations — The Girl’s Alright With Me Four Tops — Shake Me Wake Me When It’s Over Velvelettes — He Was Really Saying Something Four Tops — Sugar Pie Honey Bunch Arthur Conley — Sweet Soul Music Impressions — You Ought To Be In Heaven Ann Sexton — You’ve Been Gone Too Long Prince Buster — Al Capone Dandy Livingstone — Rudy, A Message To You Bob & Marci — Young Gifted & Black Would I ever consider using MP3s on the Northern scene ? No of course not, it goes against the very essence of what Northern Soul is all about for me, but I’ll be honest, any Mobile DJ these days that doesn’t use a laptop and MP3s must be a complete idiot ! My only question now is, am I to be marked as a leper and ostracised from the northern Soul scene for using a laptop and MP3s

I still remember one Christmas niter at Middleton, the stage backdrop was obviously for the panto, and it was Snow White & the Seven Dwarfs. Andy got most indignant when I asked him which one he was

So Was 2012 A Good Year For You Soulwise? Nuffin Negative
Dave Rimmer replied to Spacehopper's topic in All About the SOUL
After two and a half years of misery and depression following the death of my wife Margie, I finally became happy again in 2012. And the Soul connection is it started at Cleethorpes weekender ! We've been together for over six months now, and despite living a four hour train journey apart, have only missed seeing each other one weekend in the six months, and that was the second weekend because we both had other things arranged. So yes, 2012 has been a good year for me, and Jessica has been good for me- 52 comments

I'd have it for $10, but wouldn't bid more than that for what is essentially a useless piece of plastic.
-
You can order it from W H Smith for £6.39 https://www.whsmith.co.uk/Products/Do-I-Love-You+Paperback+9780955138485

Possibly Richard Domar with that quantity. I've heard he's not been well and had stopped selling
-
Then perhaps they shouldn't have been booked as a DJ in the first place ! So it wouldn't matter how long the sets were if you'd got the right DJs. I have to say, personally, I don't like 30 minute sets because it doesn't give you enough time to finish your pint never mind play a decent spot

Goldmine Cd 183 Do The Shing A Ling
Dave Rimmer replied to Ady Croasdell's topic in Look At Your Box
If nobody has obliged before hand, i can do it tonight when I get home, but it'll be about 9pm -
My understanding is that Gary Rushbrooke's copy went to Paul Everton (At least that's what Paul said), I then bought it from Paul, and Keith Money now owns it
-
There are also white label boots out there as well.

The Best Packaged Record I've Ever Received
Dave Rimmer replied to paultp's topic in Look At Your Box
Very similar, I once sold a record to someone and when it arrived there was a clear impression of a Doc Marten footprint on the mailer. The record was cracked as well. I refunded the buyer, and put a claim into the PO. They paid out without question, and as I'd claimed the maximum amount for the insurance I'd paid for I was not only quite surprised, but considerably in profit -

Garland Green - Girl I Love You (Gamma)
Dave Rimmer replied to Premium Stuff's topic in Look At Your Box
I'm quite happy to accept that Mike Terry is wrong in his interview. His recollections on certain aspects of his career were hazy to say the least. Especially as with some tracks he went into the studio, recorded the music, and then never found out who did the vocal at a later session. I suppose it depends who remembers this particular aspect correctly, and I guess Garland Green is the best person to ask. -
Technically, fairly easy these days. However, you would never get anyone to agree on the prices So in the real world impossible.

Garland Green - Girl I Love You (Gamma)
Dave Rimmer replied to Premium Stuff's topic in Look At Your Box
Although it's Armstead & Terry produced, it was done in Chicago according to Mike Terry. quote below from the interview with Mike Terry on my site: "MT: That really sticks out in my mind, J J Barnes 'Baby Please Come Home', I like that song, Garland Green 'Jealous Kinda Fella', stuff I did with him in Chicago, when I was working with Josie Armstead, Great great sounds over there, and I remember that very strong because I was at a turning point. The Little Foxes ‘cause that’s when I first started writing for strings and I remember that because I couldn’t hear strings at first. Till somebody told me where they were at, then all of a sudden I heard it, you know. They would be some of the ones that stick out in my mind" The whole interview is here https://www.soulfulkindamusic.net/inter2.htm -
