4 out of 5 from me. It's probably as good as you are going to get in 30 minutes.
I know Pete & Susan, not well, but enough to know they are out there every weekend, so they are part of the 'Northern Soul Scene', just as I am. What they wear is irrelevent.
Loved Paul Mason's depreciating humour, especially the bit where he was talking about the Soul night being full of overweight 50+ blokes, and then said actually, it isn't like that at all, but we can soon do something about that, and then walked in. The part where he had just come off the dancefloor was great too. How many documentaries have you seen where the presenter has tried to dance ? This guy had been DANCING, he was covered in sweat and out of breath !
Also thought the shots of him spinning in different places was classic TV. He obviously has done this programme as a labour of love, and spent time thinking about this show when he should have been doing other things.
Soul music is like a virus that we were all injected with at the beginning of our teens. It may lie dormant for a while, but it's still there, and will reappear at some point in everyone's life. It never leaves you, and that is what I saw on TV, a guy discovering that the joy of listening to, and dancing to Soul music never goes away.
