  1. Despite owning a Kindle, I would still far rather spend money on a physical book. The kindle is great for reading stuff on the move so to speak, but a book is something to be treasured and re-visited on many an occasion. So, on that basis I'd always go for the second hand book.
  2. Except it doesn't exist: https://www.soulfulkindamusic.net/inter1.htm
  3. Mace actually contacted me this week and asked me to remove the allnighter on the 28th December from the planner.
  4. No it's not Kindle only. I'm holding a copy in my hands right now. From 2001, ISBN 0 46081 00286 1
  5. Yeah I know it's not a huge amount, but it is still three times what you sold it at, and everyone likes a bargain. Did you notice a large proportion of the copies on Ebay all came from one seller ? They must have had boxfuls of it.
  6. Because it's been selling for three times that amount for over a year Pete.
  7. That's nice of them, they send you shit product out, make you pay to send it back, and offer to send you more shit product out, but much quicker. i've said I want a refund because I have no confidence in getting another copy that is ok. From the posts on here, it appears at least 50% of boxes sent out have been either missing items or duplicate items, or have faulty items.
  8. Just a quick question, because Universal haven't replied to my email yet, are they expecting me to pay for the return postage ?
  9. If it's just a sound dub you want why not get the Grapevine CD RUBY ANDREWS - JUST LOVING YOU - THE ZODIAC SESSIONS 1967-1973 - GRAPEVINE GVCD 3014
  10. The whole sorry saga has been a complete fiasco, and an embarrassment to Richard Searling (I know he isn't responsible for the shambles, but it has his name on it !). How on earth did this manage to get through to the sales stage without someone noticing that it was so obviously wrong ? I've emailed Universal about returning my copy, and I certainly have no intention in taking part in the lottery by asking for it to be replaced. I'll have my money back, and the MP3 downloads thank you.
  11. John contacted collectors and asked if he could scan their records. I know Johnny Weston has afew scans in the book.
  12. 01728 all present and accounted for, will have to play through them tonight. Edit: Played through them. The Four Tops jumps, and the Marvin Gaye is badly dish warped so virtually unpolayable. What a load of shite this box set is. I shall be returning mine, and not bothering buying another.
  13. Yes. Because we don't know what it is, we are possibly looking for a Levine discovery. By the same token, we are possibly not looking for a Levine discovery. That's the whole point of not knowing what it is. ie we don't know what it is yet !
  14. My all time favourite record is a prime example of this. The Magnetics - I Have A Girl - Ra Sel A one off single by the group as far as I know, a label that had 9 releases (Although I only know what seven of them are). Yet the Magnetics single has a full on production and arrangement. Who paid for it all ? And more to the point, why ? They must have been completely optimistic about getting a hit and getting their money back
  15. My parents did their courting at an establishment known locally as 'Wigan Emp'. Before the allnighters started of course
  16. Still looking for a copy of this.
  17. Hi I'm after a VG+ copy of the following record: Quinvy 168 - The Demon Brothers - Uh Huh / Living High On The Hog PM please with price and condition Thanks
  18. I've never seen issue 4 either, although I had copies of all the others to sell.
  19. Should know by the weekend because I had an email yesterday from Universal saying it had been dispatched. I would guess, and this is only a guess that they wioll be on the old black and silver label rather than the blue one.
  20. There's someone on here who has recently posted a sales list where the prices were all way above Manship's book price, in some cases, twice what John had listed them as in the guide. Now I know it's up to the seller to price things as they like, but surely if you actually want to sell things you price them accordingly. I wouldn't mind, but the seller posted almost exactly the same list the following week, with the same ridiculously high prices !!
  21. I think this is pretty much correct now. Jessica 401 - Willie Small - How High Can You Fly / Say You Will - 1965 Jessica 402 - Rozetta Johnson - That Hurts / It’s Nice To Know — 1965 (Also released on Atlantic 2297) Jessica 403 - ? Jessica 404 - Almost certainly released as Essica 404 Jessica 405 - Little Edith - I Couldn’t Take It / I Believe In You - 1965 Essica 404 - Curtis Smith - The Living End / Blank - 1965 (DJ Copy only) Essica 404 - Curtis Smith - The Living End / Say You Will* - 1965 (*Also released on Doma 101) Essica 404 - Curtis Smith - The Living End / How High Can You Fly - 1965 (To complicate matters more, the two labels actually read the same, ie ‘The Living End / Say You Will’ . It’s only from listening to the records or checking the matrix numbers that you know that ‘Say You Will’ plays ‘How High Can You Fly’ which is identical to ‘How High Can You Fly’ by Willie Small) Essica 002 - Francis, Ruff And The Illusions - Give Me Mercy / Misery Loves Company - 1966 Essica 004 - C-Quents - It’s You And Me / Dearest One - 1966 Essica 005 - The Sharpees - Just To Please You* / Hug Me Tight - 1966 (*Also released as One-derful 4839) Jessica 001 - Reuven Kall & Margaret Hines - Main Man / Misty - 1982 (There is also a slight possibility that this is the same label because of the St Louis connection)
  22. Sean Hayden runs Burnley allnighters now, on a very successful basis, and I've attended several times and enjoyed them. So Phil, if they were so good when you were running them, why aren't you still running them ? I never attended when you were the promoter, so I have no idea of how successful your nights were. I've been told things of course, but as I didn't attend, they are not really relevent. I'm just curious why an allnighter that had such a good sound system, outstanding DJs, top people, these are your words by the way, should not still be running?
  23. I don't go anywhere near as often as I used to, but that's not because I don't enjoy it anymore, or it's changed, or any other reason than the logistics of a long distance relationship where we only see each other at weekends When I do get there, it's as good as ever, the music is top notch, the dancefloor is full irregardless of the lumps and bumps in it. The 'Foreign Mods' tend to buy records, so I quite like having a lot of them there as well. As Ady says there was a sticky patch a couple of years ago when attendances were well down, however, whenever I've been this year, numbers are well up, and it's the right sort of people.
  24. I'd be interested to know what an acetate lookalike, looks like ? Are you saying it's been booted on a vinyl single and made to look like an acetate, or you have had an acetate of it cut ? I'm confused
  25. I've never heard of anyone 'renting' records to play in their set in all the years I've DJ'ed. What would be the point I have to ask ?
