  1. Nope, didn't even respond to the post requesting it.
  2. Well yes, I did realise that it wasn't entirely serious when I posted it.
  3. Here you go Rob, as you consistently ignored my requests to have your skills demonstrated through a podcast, an article that shows how much bunkum it really is https://wundergroundmusic.com/art-of-djing-revealed-to-be-massive-scam-dreamt-up-by-technics-to-sell-turntables/
  4. Thanks Mick, that's exactly the sort of info I was after, although it just really needs to be the years (For anyone else contributing)
  5. I'm doing a bit of research for a Northern Soul timeline regarding key clubs, and allnighters. So, I was hoping the ever helpful members of SS would give me some help. i need the dates these venues started and closed. Now I know some of them had more than one 'life', so it's the main. most successful period s that I'm after. thanks in anticipation Clouds, Edinburgh Queens Hall Bradford Parr Hall allnighters, Warrington St Ivo Centre, St Ives Cambridgeshire Leeds Central The Cats Whiskers, Burnley Toni’s Ballroom, Blackburn Leicester Oddfellows Club
  6. Oh I've done that at Rugby, with Rose Batistte and Doni Burdick. Please keep up !
  7. You've adroitly managed to avoid answering my question. It's not about me. I'm quite happy with my abilities as a DJ. I've DJ'ed all over the UK, Europe and the States, at nearly 100 weekenders over the last twenty years, several hundred of allnighters, and probably close to a thousand club nights. I must be getting it right because people keep booking me, and I happily admit I've never done any mixing or scratching ! It's about your claims that you could do better because of your technical abilities as a DJ. So, the challenge is, you've talked the talk, now prove it. Let's hear you DJ using all your technical abilities playing Sixties Northern Soul. You're happy to criticise the way I do it, but offer nothing as an improvement. Well I suggest you either put up, or shut up at this point. So, a podcast featuring all your skills and tricks, and technical abilities please. I'll even let you use CDs, because I suspect you won't have the original vinyl that you would need to succeed as a DJ on the Northern scene (Forgive me if I'm wrong though) Or just quietly slink away.
  8. You've still ignored my post.
  9. Rob, You appear to have completely disregarded my post. Let's see if you can do what you claim, or is it all just hot air........
  10. I don't know Lauren personally, but like you I've seen her at venues regularly (I do know her dad though) so understand that she isn't just using the scene to advance her career. It wasn't really about her (And the Brutus film is not something I object to either, because Brutus shirts have been part of the scene for a long time and are aimed at that sort of crowd.) My comment wasn't aimed at any particular person, it was aimed at this particular event. A danceoff against some Morris dancers ? Come on !!!! We always thought being part of the scene was 'cool', it was special because we were different to the general population who went to 'normal' clubs. How on earth can having a danceoff against some Morris dancers be seen as 'cool' ? No doubt I've now offended some Morris dancers, but hey ho, that's life.
  11. Rob, Let's do this the simple way. If you think a NS set could be improved by using all the 'technological' improvements that us old buggers know nothing about, prove it. Do a podcast, post it up, and then we can all hear how much better you think it could be. Or if you've got the records, get yourself booked at an allnighter and I'll come and listen to you do it live. Until then, I'm happy to continue doing what I do.
  12. Have the people involved in this no respect, or shame, or has it now become "how often can i get on telly ?" I really wanted to support all the youngsters coming onto the scene, but if they think it's ok to have a 'danceoff' against some Morris dancers, all that support will quickly disappear.
  13. Steve, I have absolutely no idea what that quote from Rob means. I understand the concept of DJing, and think I am relatively successful at it, but really it's a simple concept. You pick quality records, and put them together so that a set flows. If you have got it right, people dance !
  14. Don't be silly, you can't even manage to get the Anniversary singles pressed on time for the Anniversary sometimes, so the chances of you getting all 29 re-pressed for next month are slim to say the least
  15. . In this respect it appears perilously close to presenting multiple ossified horizons of perspective, which can only result in eventual decay. WTF !
  16. I'll start off then. Hopes: That the weather stays nice for the Saracens revival alldayer in Cheltenham, because it's a charity event and there's a BBQ !. Dreams: Finding a top tune in a sales box for pennies
  17. My own view is that they earn spots based on merit, the same way all us old buggers did. You start by asking at your local Soul night if you can do the early set, you go anywhere they offer open deck spots, you travel anywhere to do a spot, even if it costs you more than you get paid. You play the best set you can, everytime you DJ. If you are good enough as a DJ, and have interesting enough records to play, you will start to get bookings. It is not an instant thing, you have to earn the respect of others, and the best way to do that is be a good DJ, playing good records. What you have to remember is that promoters pay you to make a success of their night, so they will not pay someone who is useless, or doesn't have good enough records. Back to the original question. Should people get spots just because they are young ? No of course not, you might as well say should people not get spots because they are old and bald ! Age is immaterial, they deciding factor is how good they are, and the records they play.
  18. Did any of the 100 Club singles get released in Australia then ?
  19. To people who collect Aussie singles it might be. It's of no interest to me whatsoever. start your own thread, then you can discuss Australian re-issues to your hearts content.
  20. Anyway, back on topic, the 100 Club singles collection is now up to £944.00. Will it top the grand ? I bet it will.
  21. A quite well made argument. However, if the other members of your poetry group were so enamoured by the poetry you were reciting that they also had to have a copy of the book, that they eventually found out who the author was, and created a huge demand for the book, it may well be that the publisher, realising there was a demand might just reprint it, so the author would get some dosh as a direct result of your poetry readings !
  22. Individual prices are irrelevant in this case though, because as far as I'm aware this is the first time a complete collection has appeared on Manship's auction. It's recognised that he gets better prices than anyone else through his auctions, so it will be very interesting to see how much these go for.
  23. The last three at Rugby allnighter for the last eleven years have been Fantastic Four - Can't Stop Looking For My Baby Johnnie Mae Matthews - I Have No Choice Ray Pollard - The Drifter
