  1. Mello Souls.......pah ! Toytown Soul compared to The Magnetics - I Have A Girl - Ra Sel Of course I do admit to being slightly partial to The Magnetics
  2. Dave, health permitting, has been writing a column in Soulful Kinda Music for the last five years. I have to admit being so pleased when he said he would do it, because like so many others I grew up reading what Dave had written in B & S and then Black Music, and then back to B & S.
  3. What's wrong with drinking beer at 7.30 in the morning ? Anyway, my pint tasted better than yours Brett. You bought it !
  4. Thanks Gene. I know I've posted this elsewhere in the past, but with regard to the Soulful Kinda Music site, if anyone wants to use things from the site, please feel free. All I would ask is that you credit Soulful Kinda Music as the source. cheers
  5. Funny thing is, I've never seen a colour label on a boot, they have always been plain black and white and slightly off centre in the printing........Has the seller got it wrong ?
  6. Yes folks, the top DJ on the Northern scene couldn't be bothered turning up to do the booking he had at the Rhyll Connoisseurs Weekender, despite ringing on the preceeding Wednesday to confirm the booking, change his spot times because he was DJing elsewhere early on, and ask for directions. In fact he wasn't really missed, because at the time he was supposed to be on, it was in the middle of an absolutely magnificent four hours from Roger Banks, Cliff Steele, Keith Money, and Mick H. Awesome tunes, put together in the right way. I don't think I've heard a better four hours, anywhere. Well done lads. What really winds me up though, is the fact that he made no attempt to contact the promoters and give a reason for not showing up, but did get someone else to ring someone who was there and ask "How many were there because if there weren't many there it wasn't worth him turning up" Just for the record, the call went to voice mail and wasn't replied to. So that's what the UK's top DJ thinks of the people who pay money to listen to him DJ.......... He might have the records, but he cetainly doesn't have any integrity. A booking is a booking, whether there are ten people there or a thousand ! And I've waited until gone midday on the Monday to post this just in case he did have a good reason for not turning up. Well if he has, he still hasn't contacted the promoters to explain why he didn't show ! So please remember, when the promoters put his name on the flyers it was because they believed him when he said he would do a spot, the promoters reputation should not be damaged on this occasion ! Of course should Butch contact the promoters and have an explanation for not turning up, I will wholeheartedly, and without reservation, withdraw the above comments, I wouldn't like to damage his reputation without reason either.

  8. Hi Mike, This is the closest I get, but it's woefully out of date now. Reissues
  9. It was 'A Rare Soul Evening' from what I remember.
  10. He's not a person. It's a question, they've just missed a comma and a question mark out.....It should read....Leigh, smart ? And the answer of course if anyone has ever been to Leigh, is NO I'll get my coat.
  11. As a DJ, I find I'm getting asked to tell people to get off the dancefloor with drinks more and more often. Shame really, it was always part of the etiquette that you didn't smoke or drink on the dance floor.

  14. Got it's first release on the 'Big City Soul Sound' Kent 061 album, which was released in 1986. According to the sleeve notes it was recorded on 6th January, 1964 HTH
  15. As nobody else has sent a review in of the Nantwich allnighter I thought Id better do one as it was such a good night. The Venue first: A large dancefloor (in very good condition), with seating on a slightly raised platform one side with the record dealers set up on the opposite side. Bad planning really, the bar was on the side by the seating ! The Attendance: Considering it was the first one, and it was The Ritz in Manchester the next day, a very healthy crowd of 200 turned up. The Music: Something to please everyone really. DJs for the night were Siomon, Chris Penn (An absolute blinder of a spot), Roger Banks, Yours truly, Carl Willingham, Robbo, Sam Moore, Rob Smith, and Brian Rae. So you got rarities, oldies, newies, R & B, and some odd bits in between ! The next one is scheduled for October and there will be a seperate Moderm room at that one. Get yourselves along, its worth the trip. Recommended. Dave Rimmer
