  1. Yeah I think this was it, thanks Russ. Jo Wallace was there but we lost contact for a while so I didn't know about it despite being local. I was gutted when I found out about it a few years later. She probably helped to arrange it. Glad you know Mr & Mrs Sage too. I've bought quite a few records from them over the years. I was a bit too young for Bogarts but remember the Sunday nights dos in Churchills in Chatham he used to play in.
  2. I gather she did a gig in a pub in Chatham at some point.
  3. It's available for download at iTunes @ 79p.
  4. The tune of the summer so far imo. Quite a few others of a similar vibe running close.
  5. Way With The Girls on Goldmine may do the trick.
  6. There are many, many soul shows on the web but there are very few that are well presented . That's probably another topic altogether
  7. I remember listening to this live at the time. It was before 1988 and was closer to 1985, I think. I played the tape back many times. It was the first time I heard Yvonne Verneee and Ronnie Forte and they blew me away.
  8. More of the latter I would've thought. considering it's not that great really. I thnk they'll be disappointed though because it's nowhere near as good as some of the other recent stuff.
  9. That must've been the same programme that had a Def Jam special featuring Tashan, Chuck Stanley and Alyson Williams. It was brilliant. I may still have it on a VHS.
  10. Some great LPs in that list. Quite a few unexpected ones too - the sort of stuff we like.
  11. Solar Radio were on it until 1st June. It stopped being cost effective for them when there's so many other ways to broacast - smart phones. smart speakers, internet straming etc.
  12. No I wasn't and it wasn't a personal dig at Joe Soap. There's lots of people who have only picked up on thiis track, released in 2014, recently because it came out on a 45. It's as if you could pick any one of 100 great tracks relessed this decade and they would become popular despite being ignored, cheap and readily available since their release. If you like this stuff, wouldn't it better to strech beyond vinyl and just seek out the music?
  13. What I don't get about this is, why has it suddenly become good just because it's been released on a 45 several years after the original CD was released?
  14. I also managed to pick up a Ronnie McNeir "My Baby b/w Hold On" which I hadn't seen listed previously. Hold On is a great record.
  15. The album contains even better tracks
  16. Very interesting Mark but that track has nothing to do with modern soul.....imvfho of course
  17. I can't believe how much Tony Troutman sold for. How could that be?
  18. RIP Winston. He was always really nice to me when I bumped into him regularly in the lates 90s /early 00s. I think thta's when he started writing his excellent reviews for this website.
  19. Does it sample this? The horns sound similar.
  20. It's stiil the first press, isn't it?
  21. A bit of a repetitive, boring Chic take off I'm afraid
  22. I quite agree. There's plently on non soul music I like. I think it just demonstrates what Spotify's (and probably other streaiming services) definition of soul is. It's proably determined by a programme of some kind.
  23. It's not a soul record.
  24. The mid 90s onwards was great for me. Some very good modern rooms alongside northern room at allnighters e.g. Bretby, Stoke and Winsford. In London, there were a lot of soul nights including These Old Shoes, Capitol Soul Club & Scenseville where the northern, I think, was pretty fresh. There were also lots of new CD compilations to help further my knowledge.
