  1. Isn't Morris Chestnut an actor? I think he was in Platoon. Surely there can't be two Morris Chestnuts.
  2. Well done mate. Good post & merry xmas.
  3. Charles Earland? Doesn't really match your description though.
  4. Some warm up DJ! He used to have Stoke rocking within 30 minutes of doors opening. I remember the first Togetherness allnighter there well - Derek played Hoagy Lands, Bobby Womack, Gladys Knight and it couldn't have started better. RIP.

There's great clap a long moments during the instrumental breaks of Jackie Wilson "Because Of You" & carla Thomas "I'll Never Stop Loving You". When I first got into the music, I used clap to "Sliced tomatoes", "Fortune Teller", "Ghost In My House" & "The Right Track" ....would probably seem a bit naff now.
  6. His email is xoversoul@ntlworld.com
  7. I can't really think of hardly any cover versions that improved on the original. One that springs to mind though, is Daryl Hall's cover of Marvin's "When Did You Stop Loving Me"

Epitome of Sound Sam Dees are great clap a long songs
  9. Maybe the sound quality might be better? Some northern soul dos I've been to, the sound quality has been awful.
  10. It doesn't bother me at all. Just love the music man.
  11. Yep. A fine goalie for a fine team. Part of Terry Venables team of the 80s which lasted a season
  12. I've been to both and enjoyed them both. I think they can cater for diffferent crowds for it's highly possible that someone may prefer one to the other. It doesn't mean it's better. The thing they both have in common though is great live acts. Bunny Sigler - wow!
  13. For me, it's Otis Redding - simply for sheer raw power and emotion. I admit that he's not technically the best ever. That would possibly go to Al Green or maybe even......................Luther Vandross.
  14. As someone who used to be a big fan of The Jam, their cover versions of soul records helped me get into the music in the first place. I've not been a fan of PW since The Jam split up and basically think he lost the plot ages ago. He's run out of inspiration - quite sad really.
  15. Oh, and I got an LP that I left behind loads of times before and thought I ought to finally get myself a copy after hearing a track at A New Chapter at Smersh, London earlier this month. Al Wilson - La La La La La La La La La La La La La Peace Song for a fiver too.
  16. I bought Little Milton "I Know What I Want" on Cadet at a local record fair recently for a fiver. Very nice record.
  17. Yes, cheers Kolla. Quality!!
  18. Don't forget The Carstairs!!!!!
  19. Surely not. Looking at the photo,it doesn't look like a lady. Can someone offer conclusive proof?
  20. I think the first post summed it up nicely. Too much waffle and you can't understand a word anyway. Nothing much interesting gets said aside from "This one's for the dancers"Lol . There are a handful though who are very good at it e.g. Terry Davis,Terry Jones, Jo Wallace and Soul Sam to name a few.
  21. Records that changed my taste in music over the years are: Arthur Conley - Sweet Soul Music Wilson Pickett - Land of 1000 Dances The Capitols - Cool Jerk The Younghearts - A Little Togetherness Marie Knight - That's No Way To Treat A Girl Anita Baker - Rapture LP Donna Allen - He Is The Joy John Edwards - Tin Man Marvin Gaye - Come Get To This
  22. Arguably one of the best ever. Certainly the best Motown record that never was.
  23. Maybe they want to compare a genuine scan to a dodgy bootleg so they don't get stung :-)
  24. To me the biggest plus of the film is the vast amount of time dedicated to interviewing punters, djs, promoters and lots of people who lived it. I fast forwarded through some of the songs whilst watching it for the second time but the interviews are great. Some very funny anecdotes and some very interesting tales.
  25. You can get another Tamla Motown reissue for £3.99. It's been rerelaesed along with a load of other standards to celebrate Motown's 45th anniversary. It's better tham paying £20 for a Stardust copy!!
